01/09/2025: Disclaimer: This review isn't about the quality of the food, which we found truly excellent. What I want to highlight, however, is the behavior of the (presumably) owner when it came to the bill. After a pleasant dinner, a friend and I asked to split the bill so we could each pay with our own cards. When I asked, the gentleman told us it wasn't possible, because the transaction had to correspond to the full amount on the receipt. Anyone with even a modicum of experience in business and/or with retail outlets understands this isn't true: you can easily record a mixed payment without breaking any rules. The feeling was that it was just an excuse to avoid paying two commissions, at the expense of transparency towards the customer. We come from the Marche because we love Tuscany, but we didn't travel 300km to be taken for a ride by someone who thought he was smart. All he had to do was be honest and explain his decision, without making fun of us. For this reason, I'm giving it only one star, solely because of the behavior I found inappropriate and unprofessional. I reiterate, however, that the food was truly excellent.

11/09/2025: It's just that I couldn't give it six stars. The food was incredible. They use local ingredients, and the chef adds a creative twist to every dish. Truly Michelin-starred, with excellent value. The wines are also carefully selected and perfectly complement the dishes. 100% recommended!

03/09/2025: We visited this wonderful restaurant twice during our stay in Castiglione del Lago. The welcome is very warm, and the food is fantastic. Since we have several vegetarians in our large family, they even offered to add a vegetarian dish of the day when we made our reservation. All the dishes were perfect and exceptionally delicious. The ambiance is just as good. The interior is tastefully and comfortably decorated, and the terrace offers a stunning view over the valley. We highly recommend La Dogana!

21/09/2025: I ordered caccio e pepe which was pretty good; the pasta was thicker than usual which was too chewy for me but the taste was good. Another dish was the vegetables together with burrata cheese - the cheese was great but the vegetables underwhelming, felt a bit sad. The complete highlight of the meal was the tiramisu. It was really good, and a good way to finish the meal with a good taste. Good service.

05/09/2025: I've known Fonterutoli all my life, and the place, y'know, is a perfect fit. Eating in the garden with a view of Siena in the distance is wonderful, there's no doubt about that. Even the waiters are professional, attentive, and knowledgeable—a rare thing these days. The problem, for me, comes when you look at the plate. There's a lot of skill in the kitchen, the ingredients are good, but here they've gotten a bit lost in the trends. Lots of embellishments, lots of creative little dishes, but the portions are so small you can't feed a child. I'm serious about the substance, and when I go to an osteria, I expect substance, not small bites. And the bill, damn it, is steep. You pay for the form, the innovation, the view... everything except the satisfaction of a great meal. It's fine for those looking for something different, but for those who love tradition and decent portions, perhaps this isn't the right place.

09/09/2025: I read in another review that they have vegan pistacchio gelato. Unfortunately when we went, they didn’t have it and said that they make it very rarely. I had the vegan Ugandan chocolate gelato, which was tasty but also the only non-fruit based vegan flavour.

16/08/2025: We stopped here by chance and were greeted with a smile. Very friendly and cheerful. Very quaint place. We had an appetizer of cured meats and cheeses, which were neither good nor bad. Then we had pici alla cacio e pepe.... Industrial-style pici, undercooked, a real shame because the cacio e pepe sauce was pretty good overall.

19/08/2025: I was very unsure whether to give it 3 or 4 stars. Given the ridiculously high prices, the food should be of equal quality. The flavor wasn't bad, but I have some concerns about the freshness of the fish; some cuts were tough. The atmosphere is elegant and the staff is courteous, but the final bill was truly disproportionate to the amount offered. In short: not a bad experience, but I'm not sure I'd return given the lack of consistency between quality and prices.

23/08/2025: Spectacular place, quality food, although very expensive for what it is. The waiter let us in at 9 p.m., saying there was plenty of time, but from the moment we sat down, we felt the pressure with up to three waiters standing next to our table. It's incredibly uncomfortable to eat with family like this. I would have preferred if he'd told me he couldn't dine, and I'd have to figure it out.

18/08/2025: INCREDIBLE. I never take the time to give a review but I had to! This restaurant deserves all the stars. Very reactive / caring staff, we felt like we stepped into a very high end restaurant. We took the porterhouse beef and their own Chianti Classico wine and were delighted. The meat was wonderful (I’ve been in Tuscany +5 times and this was up to my expectations). To summarize : an amazing place for : the view (sunset was great), the service, the local food and wine. Hope you give them a chance if you’re around!! If I can give a piece of advice for the staff : relax, you’re doing great!!

25/08/2025: A homey trattoria in the heart of Tuscany: authentic flavors and homemade dishes (pici, pecorino cheese pie, sliced ​​beef, peposo with potatoes, etc.). Exceptional desserts and excellent wines complete the experience. Fair prices, a family atmosphere. Highly recommended—book in advance!

22/08/2025: Extremely rude and not accomodating! We come in, the hostes barely acknowledged us, so we go and say hi and if there js a table for 2. She says no everything outside is booked, so we ask if we can seat inside since all the tables are empty and they close in 1 hour. She just says no, we are all full and leaves. As we were leaving, we see that outside there is only 2 tables full, so either all guests come in the next hour or they simply lied and rejected us for some reason.

14/09/2025: The food here is truly amazing; we ate here twice during our vacation! The atmosphere on the square, the service, the wine, and the portions and freshness of the dishes are truly 10/10. I highly recommend eating here for excellent value if you're in the area!

01/07/2025: A very nice little pizzeria with a huge selection of fantastic pizzas! Excellent service. Unfortunately, we only discovered it on the last day of our vacation. The menu is also in German, and the service speaks excellent German! If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely come back!
