05/08/2025: Beautiful place surrounded by nature. We had lunch and they gave us all excellent local and home-grown products! Wild boar ham, salami, cheese, tomatoes! Everything was excellent and the waiter Alessandro was very kind and very nice!! Highly recommended!!!!

19/02/2026: Found by chance while visiting Sovana on a rainy day in February with friends and looking for a coffee, we ran into a guy who was opening the bistro and kindly let us in since everything around him was closed. Then, given his kindness and friendliness, we decided to return for lunch to try the handmade pici made by him and his mother, which we found to be excellent 👍

06/09/2025: We had dinner at this restaurant. The atmosphere was simple and welcoming. The selection wasn't extensive, but the dishes were excellent and high-quality. The anchovies in salsa verde as an appetizer were very good and fresh. We had three first courses, all carefully prepared and flavorful; the tagliolini with sea bass were especially fabulous. The fried fish was also excellent, both with and without mixed seafood; it was dry and not at all heavy. My only complaint is that perhaps I would have added a little more mixed seafood. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try the Portuguese milk pudding (though we'd seen it at other customers and it looked lovely), so we opted for the homemade tart with custard and strawberries, and I must say it was another pleasant surprise. The owners were friendly and kind. The price was average, but the quality and flavors are worth it. A pleasant surprise! We'll definitely be back.

20/12/2025: I can only give it a full, positive review, given the quality and, above all, the simplicity of traditional cuisine that nourishes and satisfies the palate without burdening traditional dishes with concoctions and embellishments. The treasures of traditional dishes always consist of simple ingredients, cooked in the traditional way. The atmosphere is familiar and welcoming.

Il personale è davvero cordiale e disponibile: Mattia, il nostro cameriere, è stato attentissimo per tutta la sera, è bello vedere tanta passione e gentilezza in ragazzi così giovani. I prezzi sono più che onesti e la qualità del cibo è ottima. Bravi tutti!

20/03/2026: This place serves food I haven’t tried anywhere else, including a whole fish deboned before being cooked and served. The menu was small which is always a good sign for me :) Incredible. Great wines. Great value. Recommended!

22/12/2025: La Cantina di Istia is a gem of Tuscan cuisine. We ate truly excellent food: homemade, authentic, and flavorful dishes prepared with great expertise. The chef is extremely skilled, and you can taste the love for tradition in every course. The staff is very friendly, warm, and always helpful. The atmosphere is rustic, warm, and typically Tuscan, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended! La Cantina di Istia è una perla della cucina toscana. Abbiamo mangiato davvero benissimo: piatti caserecci, genuini e richchi di sapore, preparati con grande competenza. Lo chef è estremamente preparato e si percepisce l’amore per la tradizione in ogni portata. Lo staff è super simpatico, accogliente e sempre disponibile. The atmosphere is rustic, warm and typical of Tuscany, which makes the atmosphere more beautiful. Assolutamente consigliata!

05/03/2026: The crust is thin and the toppings are generous. They have a wide selection of pizzas, and the overall topping combinations are excellent, exceeding the basics. The draft beer is really delicious, so I sometimes go when I'm craving a beer. You can order and have it delivered to your door, but I recommend eating in the restaurant whenever possible! The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is pleasant.

01/03/2026: We had a nice dinner, the focaccia and pizza were tasty even tho the tomato sauce on the pizza didn’t suit my taste (too acidic and tasted a bit cheap), which is a shame, considering the overall good quality of the pizza. The dessert and coffee were also good. That plus a soft drink and a bottle of water came to 38€, not bad at all. The placemat was a very charming touch!

03/02/2026: Excellent food quality and preparation. A small kiosk with a large glass-enclosed terrace, perfect for enjoying the view of the historic city walls without having to be outside. Outdoor seating is also available. Fast service and a very clean restaurant—definitely a perfect choice for a nutritious and delicious lunch. The photo speaks for itself!

22/02/2026: We booked for Valentine's Day dinner. There were two of us, aware that since it was a special evening, we might have to wait a bit and perhaps experience some service issues. None of this! Punctual service, exquisite food, and exemplary courtesy. Delicious first courses and equally delicious second courses. You choose the wine from the various options offered. We chose a house rosé, which was delicious. In short...highly recommended for the quality/price ratio! Francesca

08/02/2026: A truly beautiful and well-kept place, and the owner was very welcoming. The menu is limited since it's winter, but it's better that way: fewer options, but good. The dishes are well-presented, in just the right quantities, but above all, good, with fairly precise flavors. We tried the seafood and really enjoyed it. I already knew the estate's Vermentino, and it's delicious. We'll be back in the summer, when I think the outdoor dining area is great, and the menu will be more extensive. Congratulations, indeed.

30/10/2025: Since I go on holiday to Giglio many times and since I bring Giglio to Giglio the Gigliesi are not very friendly with tourists, I have to change my mind from Monticello Castello where the Castello Monticello hotel is located. From the owner Tommaso to all the staff I have to say that I spent some wonderful days. The hotel is located in a strategic point, has a breathtaking view, parking, the availability if you are without a car, they have a free shuttle service. What can I say? The Castello Monticello hotel has all the requirements for an unforgettable holiday.

18/10/2025: Very nice hotel and restaurant. Beautiful surroundings, functional and cozy common areas and my room was very functional. I have seen mentions that the room is small, but for my the room itself wasn't small at all: While not spacious it had enough space and also very useful furniture to lay out/stow things - I did tend to require quite some space to unpack my bicycle bags :) The bathroom was indeed very tight (wonder they could fit the bidet in there :) ), but who cares in a single room as long as everything works and is accessible (it is). Value for price was extremely good for me. Looks like they are adjusting price a lot based on demand (weekday and season), so that may vary but that only seems fair. The included breakfast is amazing, with proper cafe. And the staff is all around helpful and friendly. The restaurant for dinner is also very good, similar prices as other restaurants on the island - quality was well worth the price.
