29/01/2026: I was a guest for work. If I ever come to L'Aquila for a vacation, I'll definitely stay at this family-run, yet truly professionally managed hotel. The food was delicious, with a freshly baked croissant for breakfast, just the way I like it. The staff were helpful and attentive to their guests' habits. They noticed I was carefully avoiding tomatoes and dairy products and offered suitable options without a word. I thanked them and explained my slight intolerances. The RESTAURANT/PIZZERIA is spacious and attractive, with rooms that sleep three, and tidy and comfortable bathrooms. But above all these aesthetic features, I have to give it a sixth star for the cleanliness of all the rooms. Finally, there's ample parking with a large solar shelter that can accommodate five or six vans or trucks.
17/01/2026: Recommended. We ordered three pizzas (my mother is celiac and said it was among the best she's ever eaten), and my dad ordered the cod trio, which was also very good. Kudos to the staff, too; the waitress who served us was named Sara and was very helpful and polite. A well-deserved 5 stars for the restaurant.

09/01/2026: When I think of the Abruzzo hinterland, there's one word that immediately conjures up images of local cuisine: game.
And what better place than a restaurant called Il Cacciatore to sample game-based dishes?
The rather modern restaurant somewhat betrays the rustic feel its name suggests, but the atmosphere remains warm and familiar thanks to the friendly and attentive service.
We began with a platter of cheeses of varying ages, produced directly on the premises: a true delight!
Each cheese had a distinct personality, with intense flavors that were never overpowering. From the one aged in whiskey to the real winner of the dish, the chestnut cheese, every bite was an explosion of flavor.
The first course was the star of the dinner: homemade pappardelle with wild boar ragù.
While the pasta was perfectly rolled out and cooked, the ragù surpassed this excellence thanks to the balanced flavors and the taste of the quality meat. Many compliments indeed.
Moving on to the main courses, we shared some grilled tagliata and the mixed game, consisting of wild boar, roe deer, and venison.
The tagliata were excellent, especially the one with porcini mushrooms, cooked to our specifications and enhanced by the smoky aroma and flavor of the grill.
The mixed game, however, was the sore point of the evening: alongside a wild boar stew that was probably one of the best I've ever tasted, there was a roe deer that was too dry and tough, with an excessively gamey flavor, and a venison that was also integer and lacking any distinctive flavor. A real shame.
The side dish of turnip greens partially improved the situation, pairing the dishes well.
The red wine and Abruzzo gentian were fully approved; the local options are numerous and delicious.
I'll definitely be back when I'm in Abruzzo again, especially to try that wild boar, which is truly worth it.
The prices are truly excellent.

07/01/2026: I looked for a restaurant near the Stiffe Caves for my husband and I and made a reservation. We arrived a little late on a Sunday due to the GPS, but they didn't give away any seats. We had two appetizers, two first courses, a meat-based main course, and a dessert. Everything was delicious, fresh, and made with excellent ingredients. They also have an excellent wine list. The service was excellent, welcoming, and unobtrusive.
The location is an old tower and it's beautiful.
We're from Rome, but we'll definitely be back to try other dishes.

11/01/2026: Located among the villages on the slopes of Gran Sasso, this restaurant introduced me to the delicious cuisine of Abruzzo, with its many local specialties and typical mountain products.
We started with the arrosticini, which were impossible not to order.
They were incredible and, let me be clear, much better than anything I've tasted around Italy: the meat was incredibly tender and the lamb flavor was delicate, never too intense.
We then shared a few dishes to try a little bit of everything.
The fresh pasta with lamb ragù was simply perfect, perfectly cooked and with a ragù that melted in your mouth. The pecorino alla cottora was a delight and echoed the quality of the arrosticini, thanks to the tender meat's distinctive flavor, yet without overpowering the other ingredients.
The sauce was definitely worth mopping up. Finally, my favorite dish: the pallotte cacio e ova, fried cheese and egg balls dipped in a delicious sauce. Incredible! All accompanied by an excellent house red wine.
The service was very friendly and helpful. Despite our late arrival for lunch, they welcomed us warmly and attentively, making the experience even more enjoyable.
For about thirty euros each, I left feeling full and very satisfied.
I highly recommend it.

27/09/2025: If you're passing through Roccaraso—winter after skiing or summer after a hike in the Monte Greco woods—don't miss the opportunity to have dinner (or lunch!) at Chi Chi Bio. I stumbled upon it almost by accident and had an excellent food and wine experience. Quality food, knowledgeable staff, and a reasonable wait. I highly recommend it.
