Excellent restaurant within the walls of Castiglione.
We didn't have a reservation, but the wait for a table was worth it with the food.
The first courses were excellent, but the Fiorentina steak was the best.
Cooked to perfection and served at the table.
I can only recommend it for a fantastic experience I had a few months ago.
30/12/2025: I've been coming here for four years and I give 5 stars to the waiters, 5 stars to the place (which I think is one of the nicest there is), 5 stars to the owner, who I've always had a great experience with.
It's a shame I can only give 5 stars and not more.
The best restaurant I've ever eaten at, both for the gluten-free option and the classic option. Everything is fresh and excellent.

10/01/2026: The restaurant is located on a hidden street off Via del Corso. This is a true Italian trattoria, family-owned and operated. We showed up a little late and it was busy—thank goodness we made reservations. We had some challenges ordering at first because the server didn't speak English. We think she was the owner's daughter because she called him "papa"! She had somewhat of an attitude initially, a bit grouchy, but things improved as the dinner progressed. The location is rustic and quite small with just a few tables, so it tends to be noisy, with lots of aromas and visuals of different dishes that can make it hard to decide what to order. We ordered an appetizer of crostini with burrata tartare (€16) which was decent, the bistecca alla Fiorentina for two, medium rare (€60), which was delicious—tender and juicy meat—insalata mista (€8) with fresh tomatoes and delicate dressing, insalata di patate (€8) which was not bad, and an amazing tiramisu (€8) plus coffee (€4). For drinks, we had beer (€4) and a carafe of red Rosso Bolgh, 1 liter (€18). The total bill was €130. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary, so it was perfect for us.

22/03/2026: Saturday lunch before an afternoon in Siena. The young, friendly, helpful, and welcoming staff were excellent. Delicious food, top-notch prosecco and house-made amaro/limoncello. Mixed crostini as an appetizer, each one better than the last, and the pici...mmmmmm...phenomenal.
17/03/2026: Al Tocco was recommended to us by the owner of the Podere where we stayed, and I'd say she gave us excellent advice.
Excellent welcome, very courteous and knowledgeable staff.
We ordered and shared (between the two of us) a plate of 5 excellent crostoni and a truly excellent Fiorentina steak, cooked to perfection and the meat so tender!
We also shared a dessert that was really good, and we were offered a very pleasant Tuscan liqueur.
What can I say: a positive experience, and nothing to complain about the price, since if you order a Fiorentina steak, you already know what you're getting.

08/03/2026: After visiting Palazzo Pitti and the entire garden, stopping at this wonder of local toscan food was the best choice ever. The food was delicious, the people very friendly and the atmosphere made us feel like we are in the real Italy.
25/01/2026: Ruggero is a hidden gem from another era, tucked away in the beautiful Port Romana area. A must-try if you want to savor excellent Tuscan cuisine in a warm, welcoming, and unfussy atmosphere! Highly recommended ;)

20/03/2026: This is my second visit, and I have to say that despite the large crowd, they were prompt with service, friendly, and attentive in their recommendations, and provided excellent quality food. Everything was excellent, but I couldn't figure out the secret to the baked potatoes, which have a truly delicious flavor. Highly recommended for meat and traditional Tuscan cuisine.
18/03/2026: Our second time at Cipollarossa. Excellent place. Atmosphere, food, and decor. Best of all was Alessia's service. We will definitely return.

16/03/2026: On Saturday, March 14, 2026, I found myself celebrating my birthday alone for the first time in my life. After careful research, I decided, despite the fact that I dislike and have difficulty being alone, to book a table at this restaurant, hoping to at least treat myself to a pleasant moment.
However, I never imagined that this experience would soon become, quite literally, a true gift.
Starting with the location, enchanting and private enough to put, even if only for that brief moment, a brake on the incessant pace of the serious lives and thoughts of everyone present at the table.
Moving on to Claudio, the kind, courteous, and honest facilitator of this unforgettable journey, who, from the moment I arrived, as he does with every guest, put me at ease, giving me the feeling of having known him forever but, above all, of having finally arrived in a safe space protected by him.
Concluding with the dishes I had the privilege of listening to, observing, and tasting. I remember each of these distinct yet interconnected experiences being so enchanting that the further I went, the more difficult it was to express in words my pleasure and amazement, prompting me to simply and magically enjoy everything that was happening to me.
I won't go into further detail; I'll attach a few photos of this enchanting journey, and I thank Claudio and the entire staff once again for this unforgettable gift, which wasn't just a birthday present, but also, and most importantly, a life gift.

19/03/2026: I've been coming here for a long time, and I've found new management that I'd say is excellent.
08/03/2026: Lunch with friends, a welcoming, intimate atmosphere, and an excellent wine list, especially for the local wines (Tenuta la Borriana). As for the à la carte menu, nothing to complain about: refined dishes that maintain Tuscan tradition, including the delicious mutton tartare and tongue carpaccio, followed by impeccable Guancia and desserts; in fact, their revisited Bongo would be a real treat.
We'll be back with more friends 🫶🏻

09/03/2026: I’d give more like a 3.5. I liked how hot the food was and that you can get reduced portions (although the reduction in size is greater than the reduction in price, but the price is still fair) especially as a solo traveler who wanted to get multiple things. But for me, the gnocchi was a bit too mushy/soft and very very rich, and the salted cod was right on the border of too salty—a full portion of either would have been unpleasant to finish. Both dishes pictured are the reduced portions. I also got the tiramisu, which was yummy but nothing particularly special—I felt the cream dominated and there was barely any cake or coffee to balance it. I arrived 9 minutes before opening on a Monday in March and was the second group in line. Note, that several items (probably around 7, including the duck, clams, and mussels) were sold out (presumably during lunch), so it might be better to go earlier in the day if you’re set on trying something particular

21/10/2025: The place is really beautiful.
The food prices are not expensive, but the service is poor. We waited almost 20 minutes for the waiter, and the same happened when we asked for the bill. The waiting time for the food was the longest in the region.
I ordered Peposo a typical Tuscan dish, but it had too much black pepper. The mashed potatoes were not consistent. I don’t recommend.

26/02/2026: We went to Il Barroccio for dinner per a suggestion from someone who lives in Firenze and we can say we are glad we listened. As soon as we walked in the door we received a warm welcome from Giovanni. We were seated in a window seat and immediately engaged in polite conversation. He spoke Italian and English.
The menu was all in Italian but Giovanni explained all the items and even asked what dishes we were looking to try. We saw some reviews that complained about the menu being in Italian, which I don’t understand… we are in Italy, but I digress.
Our dishes were prepared to perfection and the authenticity was very apparent. My husband is half Italian and was VERY happy with our meal. We are even thinking we should travel back to Italy just to have a meal here again.
Giovanni thank you for opening up your restaurant to us, it felt like we were dining at your home. Your hospitality made our trip to Firenze that much nicer!

26/02/2026: After a day walking in the cold rain, shoes soaked, we found this Gem. If you want an AUTHENTIC Florentine experience, here is the place.
We tried many of the flashy touristy spots, consisting of bright lights, employees outside recruiting patrons, and Italian food made for Americans: salty with lots of cheese, steak topped with a bunch of fancy crap, Then have fun paying their outrageous prices.
Realizing every restaurant has access to the same food from suppliers, I chose the one that lacks all their food touristy attractions, and did not charge tourist prices. Giovanni does not need to attract people; he is not looking to overcharge patrons, he seeks to serve unbelievable food. That the locals eat at home!
He let me watch while he made everything fresh, and I mean everything: he rolled dough, cut strips for the pastas on order. No sauce pre-prepared, he cut the tomatoes on the spot and made the sauces When ordered. He served bistecca Florentino (steak) how it was done for hundreds of years. No fancy shavings of truffle like the tourist spots just to blow up the price, they would have ruined its beauty.
The bill was small, worth so much more! and it was the best Italian meal I’ve had in this world. I’m planning a layover in Florence on my next trip anywhere in Europe or Asia. I’m a lifetime customer. It was basically food sex. Yes, I made a new term. I experienced food sex…. Fex

09/03/2026: Despite its name suggesting the simplicity of an osteria, this place is actually an elegant and refined restaurant, showcasing Tuscan culinary traditions with great respect.
During our visit to Pisa, I tried bordatino, a typical local dish, and was truly thrilled: an authentic, rich, and genuine flavor, prepared with great balance and attention to quality. It was one of those dishes that lingers in your memory and is worth the visit in itself.
The service was attentive and friendly, the atmosphere refined yet welcoming, never cold.
A restaurant that perfectly combines elegance and tradition, perfect for those who want to discover authentic Tuscan cuisine in a more sophisticated setting. Highly recommended.
