14/06/2026: Unpretentious tourist food, poor quality and poorly prepared, with even worse service and hospitality. Mediocre appetizer, carbonara that tasted only of egg, and the worst ossobuco I've ever tasted, flavorless meat, tomato that smelled of preserves, and black, smelly marrow, which we obviously didn't eat. An experience not to be repeated.

11/06/2026: We came here on a recommendation and it definitely did not disappoint. The staff were friendly, welcoming and happy to help with recommendations. The food was delicious and paired with a nice bottle of wine, it made for a fantastic dinner. Everything we ordered was spot on and the atmosphere just added to the experience. I definitely recommend checking out - Just make sure you book ahead!

A gentleman outside warmly invited us in and was incredibly friendly, which made a great first impression. The food was average, but the service truly stood out – very kind, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the staff made us feel comfortable and appreciated. Overall, it’s a nice place mainly because of the wonderful service.

23/07/2025: Cenare da Mario significa immergersi nell'essenza della cucina capitolina, perché questo ritorante offre un'esperienza che va ben oltre il semplice pasto. Ogni consiglio del personale è prezioso, ogni spiegazione rivela l'amore per gli ingredienti selezionati e le ricette tramandate. Il ritmo del servizio segue quello naturale della convivialità italiana: mai affrettato, sempre attento. I piatti sono eccellenti ed anche i contorni, spesso trascurati altrove, qui brillano di luce propria. Il conto finale sorprende positivamente: prezzi onesti per una qualità che supera le aspettative. Da Mario non si va solo per mangiare, ma per vivere Roma attraverso i suoi sapori più autentici. Un'esperienza da ripetere assolutamente.

22/07/2025: Un ristorante speciale, datato con cucina di una volta. Che altro dire, se vuoi mangiare la vera cucina romana sei nel posto giusto.. Camerieri preparati ed educati, cucina di casa con sapori e prezzi onestissimi Carta dei vini fantastica, prezzi più che ragionevoli e scelta tra quasi 200 etichette Torneremo sicuramente Piatti romani, carne tartufo e funghi di livello altissimo Grazie per l ESPERIENZA

25/02/2026: I visited here on the recommendation of a Korean guide, and since it seemed like a lot of Koreans go there, I trusted them. The food was generally on the expensive side, and the seasoning was a bit bland for my taste. The taste was okay. When I was paying after my meal, the total bill of €129 already included a €10 service charge. One of the staff members asked me to include a tip on my card if I wanted to tip. I asked if the service charge was already included, and they tried to pressure me into tipping. I added an extra €10 to the atmosphere, but after I checked, I learned that in Italy, tipping isn't required if the service charge is included. I was disappointed that they asked for an additional tip when they accepted the service charge. Also, I was a little taken aback by the change in attitude after I tipped, even though they didn't respond when I was first seated. It was the final payment process that left me feeling more offended than the food itself, making this a disappointing visit.

30/11/2025: I've never eaten such terrible food. We were nauseous all night, both my husband and I. I'll probably never be able to eat my favorite pizza again. It wasn't good, and when they brought it, I had to cut it myself: no pizzeria will serve you uncut pizza. 🤬🥴🥴🥴🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮

27/05/2026: We went to Calice d'Oro this weekend for lunch after a recommendation from some friends. The food was good; we ordered appetizers and Roman-style first courses. While the appetizers arrived promptly, we had to wait a good hour for the first courses. We know the restaurant is busy on weekends (and we're thrilled for you), but ordering at 2:00 PM and eating at 3:10 PM isn't ideal. Plus, my amatriciana was a little too al dente for my taste. For three appetizers, two pasta dishes, a Coke, and a water, we spent €30 per person.

04/05/2026: Neither good nor bad. We came in for lunch when the staff was having internal disagreements in the dining room. The service was adequate, but I didn't sense any... soul in the waiter. The impression is that there's effort but no love. The food is okay, the price is average for what I've seen in Rome (15 euros for anything, minimum, and we had both a first and second course), but the crispiness of the guanciale in the carbonara needs attention, often so tough it could break your teeth. I'm editing my review because I forgot that the bottle of water (which I pay for but is probably free from the tap, as I could get it from the street fountains) had mold on the cork thread. Very bad. The wine list is remarkable.

04/05/2026: I decided to have lunch here since it's really close to the Colosseum, and I wasn't disappointed! I booked a couple of days in advance just to be safe, and I recommend doing so. I had the carbonara, which was very good, but I also tried the amatriciana, and I have to say, it left me speechless! It was truly delicious 💝 I'll definitely be back!!

The restaurant is in a charming location, just steps from the Pyramid of Cestius, and immediately conveys the authentic atmosphere of traditional Roman trattorias. I particularly enjoyed the cuisine, which features traditional Roman classics prepared with quality ingredients. The carbonara was creamy and flavorful, with well-balanced flavors, while the supplì were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The thin-crust Roman pizza also deserves a special mention. The service was friendly and professional: the staff were helpful and attentive throughout the dinner, helping to create a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere. The atmosphere was also very pleasant, ideal for both a dinner with friends and a family evening. The prices are in line with the area and the quality of the dishes offered. Overall, I consider Taverna Cestia an excellent choice for those who want to savor authentic Roman cuisine in a historic and characteristic setting. I would gladly go back to try other dishes on the menu.

03/06/2026: Excellent pizza dough, but the Margherita was low-quality mozzarella and too much of it, a 4.5+ rating. The mushrooms and sausage were delicious, a 7.5. The tiramisu was a 7, but considering the restaurant setting and the excellent quantity, I'd say an 8. The veal meatballs were priced high for the quantity and size, but they were good, I'd give them a 6.5. Total restaurant, including location, a 7.
