11/06/2026: This will be our 20th time, always perfect, a homely atmosphere without pretensions, Roman cuisine of a time, tasty and quality, kind, family service. A place to eat well and feel at peace.
06/06/2026: Delicious Roman food in an authentic atmosphere, but slow service

Nuvolari
Roma
31/05/2026: Passing by chance, I saw this wonderful place and not to mention the excellent food and friendly and nice staff... well done
30/05/2026: Always a guarantee! Nestled in the Borgo Pio neighborhood, this restaurant is beautifully decorated, organized, and welcoming. The extremely kind and professional staff will guide you through a wide selection of Roman cuisine. The highest-quality ingredients make the dishes truly mouth-watering (such as the amatriciana and stuffed zucchini flowers!) Despite the highly touristy location, they maintain a consistently high standard of quality. Well done!

La Ciambella
Roma
11/05/2026: 🍝 - Food: 3/5
🛎️ - Service 4/5
📍 - Location & atmosphere 4/5
Rome is a city of brutal extremes, and honestly, that’s how I like it. You either want to be hunched over a scarred wooden table in a gloriously greasy, chaotic trattoria where the house red tastes like ink and the waiter hates your guts, or you want the full-blown, transcendental wizardry of Heinz Beck. Anything in between? That’s where the trouble starts.
My quest for the "New Roman Soul" ended behind the Pantheon at La Ciambella. On paper, it’s a dream. The space is a vault of impeccable taste—all soaring stone arches and soft lighting, a sleek, surgical atelier where Roman classics are dissected with high-end ambition. The wine list is a genuine love letter to the peninsula, and the service is a well-oiled machine, professional to a fault.
But here's the rub: you can’t cook the soul out of a city and expect it to still move you.
I started with the Wrap con porchetta di maialino da latte. The staff described it as "delicate." In my book, "delicate" is a word for lace doilies, not porchetta. To me, it was practically invisible. When you see the word porchetta on a menu, you expect a punch to the jaw—salt, fat, garlic, the wild taste of the countryside. Instead, I got a polite wrap where the marinated cherry tomatoes and yoghurt sauce felt like unnecessary bystanders to a ghost of a pig.
The one flickering light in the dark was the Maritozzo with creamed cod and lime. This was a clever, cheeky bit of business. Taking a pillowy, sweet breakfast staple and weaponising it with salt cod so smooth it defies the laws of physics? That worked. The lime cut through the richness like a switchblade. It was a brilliant opening act, but it unfortunately left the stage quiet.
I pinned my last hopes on the namesake Ciambella con la Crema. I wanted a riot. I wanted that heavy, sugary, warm hug for the stomach that justifies the calories. What I got was more "lightness"—technical, airy, and ultimately, hollow.
It’s not a bad meal. It’s technically sound, and in a neighborhood where you’re usually dodging frozen pizza and neon-colored gelato, it’s a dignified escape. But dignity doesn't satisfy a craving. I didn't find the new soul of Rome here; I found a very expensive, very beautiful silence.
If you want the heart of this city, you’re better off looking where the floor is sticky or the stars are Michelin-rated. This middle ground is just too polite for its own good.
11/05/2026: Each time I visit Rome, I eat here. Once again, absolutely superb. Wonderful food, amazingly good wines from small producers, the most excellent and enthusiastic sommelier and great service. A must go.

Al Grottino
Roma
15/05/2026: Even though it was a busy situation (work-wise since it was a Saturday) the orders never took forever to arrive, the waiters were very friendly and helpful.
09/05/2026: This is my favourite pizzeria in Rome - I won't go anywhere else. I love the fact that you can get traditional pizzas as well as something out of the ordinary. Their cakes are to dies for especially the carrot cake and the mud pie. The service is excellent! The venue is wonderful and the food is fantastic - and that's an understatement!

Hosteria Come 'na Vorta
Roma
10/05/2026: I frequented it during my daughter's time at Sapienza University.
Quality food, based on the classic "big four" of Roman cuisine (Amatriciana, Gricia, Carbonara, and Cacio e Pepe), a friendly, informal atmosphere, and a good price.
13/02/2026: If you're looking for a real, non-touristy place where they cook great food, this is the place for you.

La Fontana di Venere
Roma
15/05/2026: A lovely spot just steps from the Trevi fountain. Food was excellent (carbonara, bolognese and pistachio pasta), with friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommend. Thank you for a great meal for our family’s last night in Italy!
14/05/2026: The carbonara was really good, the service was excellent.

Il Giardino 1931
Zagarolo
01/06/2026: Family lunch in a spacious restaurant with ample parking and a view of the Zagarolesi countryside... an old-world atmosphere with a touch of "feeling at home"! Excellent, carefully curated and flavorful menu... served with care and attention by the always friendly staff! Must try...
24/05/2026: I agree with some of the negative reviews that were written before me.
Ambience: The parking lot is spacious and there's a convenient elevator that takes you from floor 0 to floor 1, so this restaurant is good and convenient even for wheelchair users. There's also an entrance directly from the historic center.
As soon as you enter, you're a bit surprised because the rooms are furnished in an old-fashioned style, but the tables are all well-set.
The restrooms are stuck in the 1970s.
Service: Unlike the person who wrote before me who couldn't find the menus, the first things they brought were the menus—one meat, one fish, and one traditional—and water. Our choice of wines, including sparkling wine, unfortunately fell between a full bottle and glasses. Each glass cost 6 euros for a quantity that was less than half a glass.
As we finished eating, the waitress came and cleared away the dirty plates. I wanted to remind the owner, Daniele, to give his waiters a class on table etiquette, because it's absolutely forbidden to clear plates until everyone has finished eating.
Food:
I gave one star because all the dishes they brought were tasteless, starting with the famous matriciana pasta served in a pecorino cheese wheel. It was so tasteless that we had to ask what kind of pasta it was, and when the waitress told us "matriciana," we were all surprised because they didn't have any matriciana, and the guanciale, which was practically raw, was on the last plate plated and wasn't as crunchy as it should be!
Not to mention the famous chicken pulled with the grandparents' iron: the chicken leg and top leg were completely charred, so much so that you couldn't separate the black part from the rest of the meat... €20 (??) for half a chicken... also strictly unsalted and flavorless.
The chicory still had the stems attached... hard. The strawberries were simply sliced and served plain, without sugar or lemon, and the ones with cream weren't previously seasoned either.
Judging from our experience, we paid a lot (€50) per person for the tasteless quality of the food.
To be fair, the portions were just right, and the view of the greenery was beautiful and relaxing, but I'd say it was an average-to-low experience.

Dar Burino
Ariccia
02/01/2026: A restaurant with a true Roman fraschetta atmosphere. However, behind the excellent service and smiling waiters, we found a carbonara with touches of perhaps raw bacon and an egg "a frittata." The appetizers were nothing special. The uniquely shaped biscuits were charming.
30/12/2025: We were on the veranda, and I felt a bit chilly, despite the gas stove near the table. The seating (wooden benches) was a bit uncomfortable. The place is very rustic, a typical Roman osteria. We had the porchetta sandwich, which was excellent, as were the gnocchi with both ragù and truffle and sausage. I tried the mutton arrosticini, which were very good, as was the berry crumble.
If you like the typical atmosphere of the Castelli Romani restaurants and the simplicity, this is a great place.

Ristorante Checco al 13
Roma
26/04/2026: Good tripe, huge meatballs, paid a little too expensive, friendly and helpful staff
12/04/2026: An old-school restaurant, where good food and service are truly at the heart of the customer experience. I recommend the starters, and definitely leave room for the dessert trolley, which deserves more than one taste. The restaurant is large and has ample parking, but reservations are recommended for busy days like Sunday lunchtime.

La Caraffa
Roma
10/05/2026: The food was very good: seafood appetizers, spaghetti with clams, and excellent fried fish. There were a few small errors in the order, but that was understandable given the busy Sunday lunch season; however, the staff was very kind in rectifying the situation. Various gluten-free options are also available.
06/05/2026: Excellent seafood restaurant with good value. Generous portions and very helpful staff. The retro location deserves a revisit. Highly recommended.

Ristorante Roma Sparita
Roma
02/06/2026: The food was absolutely delicious. The Cacio e Pepe was one of the best ones I have ever had. Great ambience as well
31/05/2026: Very small portions, expensive.
- 2 mini mozzarella balls they call buffalo mozzarella: €12
- 5 spinach and ricotta ravioli with tomato sauce: €16
- Boneless Roman chicken - which should be in pieces with unspecified vegetables, including bell pepper: €18
The owner's welcome was simply appalling. She should find another line of work! The waiter was friendly but in cahoots with the owner, who charged €30 for a bottle of wine. We asked for a correction: €10/dl!
This is not a place to recommend. We were encouraged to go there, but it's nothing like the charming pictures online. It's falling apart. Tables are too close together.
I ordered dessert, and they practically needed a magnifying glass to see it.
In short, this place was recommended to us, and of our entire stay in Rome, it was the worst. A truly terrible experience. Avoid it!

I Torquati
Roma
27/05/2026: We had an incredible dinner at Taverna i Torquati. The steak was cooked absolutely perfectly, but the real surprise was the spinach—it was honestly the best spinach I’ve ever had in my life! My friends loved everything they had as well; the kitchen absolutely nailed it for the whole table. The atmosphere was awesome, cozy, and welcoming. To top it all off, our waiter was fantastic and great to talk to, making the whole evening even better. If you’re looking for amazing food, incredible vibes, and top-notch service, do not miss this place!
07/05/2026: We ate badly twice in a row...
Tortelli with shaved truffles, shameful! Completely drowned in a lake of cream, and a truffle cream that was also drowned in cream. Gnocchi with white ragù... They also seemed drowned in broth with a bit of ground beef! A steak that was difficult to chew because it was full of nerves! A first course, a second course, and wine were 70 euros! Unfortunately, I won't be going there again! The cuisine, by the way, is not Italian!
