02/08/2026: There were three of us, and we ordered three pizzas: two with Lucanian sausage and one with Lucanian sausage, fried zucchini, and Leccino olives (Altra pizza). This review is based on real experience and seeks to highlight both the positive aspects and those that, in my opinion, deserve improvement. I'll start with the best aspect of the evening: the dough. It was decent, well-leavened, and cooked properly, with a well-developed crust and a pleasant texture. The addition of chia and poppy seeds adds a unique touch and a subtle aromatic note that distinguishes this pizza from many others. It was also cooked evenly, and the crust was nice and dry. Unfortunately, however, it's the quality of the ingredients that significantly changes the opinion. The Lucanian sausage had a strong and pleasant flavor, probably the pizza's best ingredient. The rest of the ingredients are a different story. The Leccino olives were the real disappointment of the evening: they were flavorless, of modest quality, and incapable of delivering the intense, slightly bitter flavor expected from this variety. Rather than enhancing the pizza, they ended up compromising its flavor balance. The tomato sauce also didn't convince me; it was slightly acidic and lacking in harmony, tending to overwhelm the other ingredients instead of binding them together. The mozzarella, moreover, seemed of rather ordinary quality, lacking flavor and a texture that didn't convey the sensation of a fresh or superior product. The fried zucchini, while an interesting idea, failed to deliver the added value expected from a gourmet pizza, also because the other ingredients weren't up to par. Ultimately, I got the feeling that this pizzeria has created a good dough, but it should invest much more in selecting the right ingredients. When you offer a pizza with ingredients like Lucanian sausage, customers expect high-quality, well-matched ingredients. In this case, unfortunately, the dough was the only truly convincing element, while the toppings and ingredients didn't live up to expectations. Three stars are deserved for the dough and baking, but overall it was a disappointment. With higher-quality ingredients, this pizza could take a significant step up.

04/05/2026: Osteria L’arco was my favorite dining experience in Matera! The food was phenomenal with lots of local dishes to try and the service was the best. The pasta with peppers and ricotta is so far my best pasta in all of Italy! And the chocolate cake with orange and peppers was an amazing combination (I especially loved the cocoa hearts). It was my first dinner as a solo traveler and they treated me well. Grazie L’arco!

09/08/2026: Good restaurant, good meat but average pizzas, pleasant staff but the owner wasn't very friendly and seemed only there to take your money. Overall, a good experience nonetheless.

05/08/2026: We ordered three pizzas for delivery, and before we even opened the boxes, we could smell a very strong, unpleasant odor. Once opened, the smell was even more intense. We tasted the mozzarella and immediately noticed it had a sour taste and a bad smell, making the pizzas completely inedible. We contacted the pizzeria, and they remade the pizzas for us. When they returned them, we returned the old ones so they could check the problem. Despite what had happened, they didn't even see fit to offer us a pizza, a drink, or even show any kind of concern for the inconvenience caused. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time we've had an incident like this with this pizzeria. We regret leaving a negative review, but when it comes to food, the quality and freshness of the ingredients should be a top priority. We hope this report is taken seriously, as situations like this should never happen.

22/11/2025: Discovered at some acquaintances' wedding, I fell in love with it so much that I chose it for my own wedding in August 2019. We felt pampered, the guests still remember the beauty of the room, the kindness and helpfulness of the waiters, the quality and quantity of food, and all the attention they've never encountered in other venues. I would get married there 1,000 times over. Some venues in the area try to imitate it, but there's no comparison. ❤️

18/08/2026: A paradise for celiacs and lactose intolerants, especially when away from home 🏠. A completely gluten- and lactose-free place, with no risk of cross-contamination... Among the most popular dishes: eggplant parmigiana, the first course with Stigliano pistachio pesto, the cube roll, and their goat ricotta tiramisu. 🐐 Highly recommended place 🔝 Thanks to whoever thought of making this investment for us celiacs, who are less at ease when away from home ♥️

17/08/2026: A wonderful experience at this lovely restaurant, where everything is cooked gluten- and lactose-free, where for once those with intolerances don't feel different and can choose what they like. All the products are of excellent quality and traditional local produce, and the service and helpfulness of the owner are excellent. Thank you for your commitment and care in an industry where, unfortunately, there's still little attention to the product and limited choice. 27/05/2026: Nice spot. Good music. We were not greeted very nicely we we approached to ask could we sit outside. We figured out the menu was on QR Code. Before ordering I asked our waitress was the €2 coverage charge for the table. She said yes. Turns out was per person. One of our orders was incorrect, but just enjoyed. Sandwiches were tasty. Thank you.

27/04/2026: We were looking for something interesting for lunch in the beautiful city of Matera and stumbled upon this restaurant. It’s carved right into the hillside—exactly that traditional vibe people come here for. The service was absolutely amazing. Huge selection of wines. The menu is nicely tailored to the local cuisine. We really enjoyed everything, from the starter to the main course. The only small downside was a bit of flaking lime from the ceiling paint, but that’s probably pretty common in this type of space.

14/08/2026: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ SUPER! A pleasant discovery, La Locanda sul Fiume Vecchio We started with the "coccole," truly excellent and perfect as an appetizer to open the dinner. The fried fish and cod were superb, both in flavor and quantity: rich, well-executed, and very satisfying. The seafood appetizer was impressive for its quality and generous portions, almost making it a main course. To conclude, we couldn't resist the crepes, prepared by Antonio, which proved to be the perfect end to the meal. A special thanks to the owner, Davide, for his great professionalism and courtesy in welcoming guests, elements that truly make the difference. Excellent value for money. This restaurant is recommended for both locals and those visiting Basilicata who want to eat well, with quality products and attentive service.

17/08/2026: The Van Gogh restaurant impresses with its unique ambiance, being located right in the fascinating historical area of ​​Matera. We ate an excellent pizza, well baked and tasty. The service was ok, the staff was friendly and attentive to details. Tip for tourists: The terrace is perfect for enjoying the food in an authentic setting. The bathroom is clean, impressive for the tourist traffic. The evening atmosphere is special, and the prices are affordable for such a popular area. Definitely worth a stop!
