A pleasant surprise… the restaurant is hidden away. Very good. The service is perfect. The waitress and waiter make an effort to speak French.

We stumbled across Osteria Belvedere al Vecchio Frantoio and are so glad we did. Tucked away from the busiest tourist areas, it offers a great atmosphere that feels lively without being overwhelmed by the crowds. The service was excellent throughout the meal—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Most importantly, the food was outstanding. Every dish was full of flavour, and the lasagne is an absolute must-try. If you're looking for a fantastic meal away from the main strip, this place is well worth a visit.

My husband and I came. It's a somewhat hidden restaurant, away from the hustle and bustle. We had an antipasto of cheese and cold cuts. Then a lasagna, typical of Matera. Finally, for dessert, ricotta mousse. Everything was delicious. In summer, with the scent of jasmine, it's a lovely atmosphere to enjoy, with a view of the Sassi.

A place one must visit if it's in Matera! The owner Pasquale was always present and attentive. No words to describe the kindens and dedication of Domenico also! Excellent food! Excellent!!! Don't miss it!

Last night we went to this lovely restaurant with its own ancient olive oil mill (worth a visit). Gentlemen.... Amazing meatballs. Monumental pignata... Well done!

The place is very beautiful, and it's quite cool inside the cave. However, the food wasn't the highlight of our trip to Puglia. The spaghetti with ricotta and the typical dried pepper from the area didn't impress us, nor did the monkfish (vegetable) spaghetti. It's worth noting that the shots of the house liqueur seemed extremely strong and rather expensive (€4 per shot). :(

06/06/2026: The staff is so kind and attentive, and the food is wonderful. The crispy fried senise peppers are beyond anything I've ever tasted. I wouldn't know anything we ate was gluten free, tiramisu was excellent. Pizza with mortedella and pistachios was phenomenal.

07/05/2026: Amazing pizza!! So many delicious choices. The owner and staff were very quick and super welcoming!! Will definitely do it again!!
04/05/2026: My husband, our two children, and I dined at this restaurant last night after a busy day spent walking among the Sassi of Matera. We were greeted by kind and attentive staff, with prompt service. The pizza was excellent, the fries were special, and the "sausage of the beggar" was delicious. My husband and I ordered it first, followed by a portion of Van Gogh bruschetta—exceptional! The owner, Bartolomeo, was exceptionally kind, making us feel at home and pampered. Before leaving, I confided in him about my passion for Vincent Van Gogh. He accompanied me into the dining room, which, surprisingly, was decorated with wonderful reproductions of Van Gogh's paintings. He proudly told me about them and showed me the wines, which bear artistic labels. What more can I say?! Between the deliciousness of the dishes, the beauty of the setting, and the owner's extraordinary kindness, it was an experience that left us with a wonderful feeling of well-being! If we ever return to Matera, we'll definitely eat here, with the pleasure of greeting Bartolomeo and savoring more of his delicacies!!!! Ps: fair prices and generous portions.
