06/06/2026: This restaurant is amazing! We went for lunch & went back later in the day for takeout pizza. Although it caters to gluten free customers, we'd recommend it to everyone. The food is fresh & delightful, & the service was impeccable.

23/06/2026: This is an excellent place if you want to eat well but be served poorly! The waiters were unpleasant and rarely smiled. They were clearly sponsored by the best chewing gum brand in Italy… It was truly unprofessional. Furthermore, they practically threw a plate of antipasti onto the table, the wine glasses arrived soaking wet, and there was no ice bucket for the wine bottle… We ate well, but the service was disastrous.

06/07/2026: A must visit! Amazing restaurant!! The service is fast and very friendly, great views of the city and the food is pure heaven! The beef cheeks and the pork shank are a must get!!

06/07/2026: A small restaurant in the heart of the Sassi district, simple and tasty cuisine, friendly and approachable service. We ate well, although the power outage affected the food a bit. Prices are a bit high.

23/06/2026: We had an excellent pizza at this very nice place and it was very cheap, considering the prices in Matera. They don't offer table service, as it's a takeout pizzeria. You order your pizza, they give you a remote control, and when it's ready, you go and pick it up. They set your table with napkins and silverware provided. We ordered two pizzas and two drinks for €21. Compared to the prices in the city center, it's very affordable. Plus, it's a lovely outdoor spot overlooking the Sassi.

03/06/2026: Intrigued by the name and Chef Enza's creations, we booked a round-trip trip of about 300 km to this restaurant, which offers a sensory experience beyond the limits! The raw fish envelops you with the flavors and aromas of the sea, while I can't even describe the other dishes. I had a revisited cacio e pepe that gave me an immeasurable explosion of flavors in my mouth! Every detail is meticulously crafted, from the professionalism of the waiters to the cleanliness of the restrooms. Everyone was satisfied, even my 3-year-old son, with pasta with tomato sauce, cutlets, and homemade potato chips. In short, if you want to try a culinary experience above the restroom, it's time to try L'ESSENZA! Thank you for everything!

09/06/2026: During our visit to Matera, we dined at this trattoria. The staff were friendly, the service quick, and the dishes were delicious: a cheese and cured meat platter, fava bean puree with chicory, and orecchiette alla matarese. I recommend it.

The first courses are unremarkable. Especially the Scialatelli with fava bean puree... Overcooked pasta... An inedible mush. I don't recommend it.

22/12/2025: A quaint and welcoming atmosphere, a warm and pleasant place with Italian music playing in the background. The place is very tidy and clean. The staff is kind and attentive. We enjoyed a bruschetta with crumbled sausage and melted cheese, truly delicious, and an Irish burger with cheddar and bacon, accompanied by crispy fries. To finish, a delicious tiramisu.
