20/10/2025: There are experiences that go beyond simply "eating well." At Ristorante Vitantonio Lombardo in Matera, I experienced something truly extraordinary. The dish I will cherish forever is the risotto with truffle, salted caramel, and Amaro Lucano cream: a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and aromatic, an explosion of flavor that I would unhesitatingly call the best dish I've ever eaten in my life. Making everything even more special was Donato's kindness and impeccable attention in the dining room, making you feel like you were at the center of a complete sensory experience. Through the glass separating the kitchen from the dining room, I glimpsed a close-knit team, smiling, orderly, and impeccably clean: silence, precision, harmony—almost a dance that contributed to the truly magical atmosphere. The restaurant, carved into the Matera tuff rock, is an architectural spectacle: intimate, elegant, and authentic. Every detail exudes passion and respect for the land that hosts it. Donato's wine selection is an exciting journey through Basilicata and Europe, with perfect pairings that enhance each dish, showcasing the finest ingredients and creativity. An experience to be relived and re-lived many times in a lifetime, because in places like this, time stands still, and taste becomes pure emotion. We'll definitely be back!

04/10/2025: What a treasure in Matera. Beautiful delicious food, pretty setting, friendly and attentive service. Great value, too. Loved the wine pairings and the concept of being able to assemble your own tasting menu. Chef is in the kitchen himself. The Michelin star is well deserved.

10/11/2025: Cozy local ristorante with very good food, good service and reasonable prices. We drove Matera to Potenza and saw a sign in crossroad "Irsina - uno dei piu belli borghi in Italia" and decided to for sunday lunch there. It was very good decision!

04/11/2025: From the outside, it's not very inspiring. Upon entering, I found a simple place with a very kind gentleman who welcomed me. I was with my husband, and we ate a hot and cold mixed antipasto for two, and scialatelli allo scoglio. Everything was good. Sometimes you don't always have to look at the outside. The price was reasonable.

27/10/2025: The restaurant is located in the busy Piazza del Sedile, and we stopped for dinner by chance. The somewhat retro style of the place might please some vintage fans. There were two of us and we ordered a pizza and a second course: the pizza arrived with only some of the requested ingredients, while the second course, listed on the menu as "roasted suckling pig with roast sugo" (roasted pork with roast sugo), consisted of two thin slices of pork with an unidentifiable sauce drizzled with balsamic vinegar (it all seemed to have been reheated in the microwave). After asking about the missing ingredients on the pizza, they were brought to us on a separate plate just after the meal was over. Furthermore, despite there being two of us dining, the dishes were brought to us 15 minutes apart, as they had to be eaten "separately" to prevent them from getting cold. Unfortunately, we don't recommend it.

24/11/2025: When a customer visits a pastry shop, they'd appreciate fresh cream pastries made that day... I fully understand that waste should be avoided if products aren't sold at the end of the day. But I don't think it's fair to display them the next day as well... At the very least, if this happens, let them know before you sell and perhaps offer a discount. It would be a nice gesture that people would appreciate. And besides, people are free to choose. They might even choose something else, but you don't lose the customer. I'm giving it two stars, not one, because I've been there several times, and when the products are made that day, they're actually good... but you can't rely on luck. In my opinion, the product served should always be fresh and prepared that day.

05/12/2025: Came here with group of friends for food and drinks. The food is very nice and drinks are even better. They home made spicy sauce is the best. Stella was very accommodating and went extra mile to make our visit special. I will visit again when in Matera next time.

02/11/2025: Family dinner (6 people) on a Saturday evening. The service was prompt and accurate despite the room being full. The dishes were typical of Lucanian cuisine and absolutely impeccable. The price was average. The location is quaint and clean, inside the baronial castle. Highly recommended!

05/11/2025: Like everything in Matera, the best thing about it is the atmosphere, which is fantastic. The locally sourced beef was cooked to perfection and tasted good, but it was quite fibrous. The selection of meats and cheeses is worthwhile. The sausage with potatoes is a kind of chorizo ​​criollo, but with an anise-flavored spice that overpowers the meat's flavor. The formaggie cheese was very good. As I said, the best thing about it all was the atmosphere.
