A hedge divides the street, but the experience isn't the best: cars constantly drive past the tables, and there's no heating, making it uncomfortable, especially on cooler evenings. Food 4/5: Overall, good food. The pizza was well-risen and enjoyable, but the chips arrived cold, a detail that detracted from the experience. Overall, good. Service 1/5: Terrible experience. We waited over an hour and a half for our pizzas, which was absolutely unacceptable. The staff gave no communication or explanation for the delay. The service was truly disappointing and unprofessional. Absolutely not worth it. From an experience like this, I expected at least an apology. Average 2/5: Overall, poor experience. The service was very slow, with excessive wait times and little attention to the customer. The place is small, and the outdoor seating on the sidewalk is uncomfortable, partly due to the constant traffic and the lack of heating. The food is the best part: the pizza is well-risen, although some details could be improved. Overall, the experience was below expectations. Failed

20/03/2026: We went to the cinema in Nardo and afterward we were craving pizza, so we went to this place, convinced by the many positive reviews. But I have to say we were completely disappointed, both with the place and the pizzas. Perhaps because, given the reviews, we were expecting something different, the pizzas were barely okay.

03/09/2025: Very warm welcome. Very helpful. Despite a late arrival, the lady made me a good sandwich which was delicious. Then, I chose ice creams. The variety of flavors is significant and the choice was difficult. I had Mars flavor and salted butter caramel. It was truly delicious. I recommend this cafe. Thank you for your professionalism and kindness.

04/09/2025: I'm giving it five stars simply because this place gives me the feeling of freedom, in every way: the freedom to choose what to eat and drink, served by exquisite staff, and the pleasant company of Gianni, the owner... Summer is the season par excellence when one is most carefree, and meeting for a drink or dinner at Makossa means maintaining that sense of well-being... the music accompanies our moments and is always carefully chosen. The setting is that of San Cataldo, a place where, despite the influx of tourists and others, it remains a sought-after place. See you next time!

17/05/2026: The pizza was very good but the lady and young man at the counter were both pretty rude. They seemed angry that I needed a minute to look at the menu to decide on a pizza. The pizza chef was nice. Thankfully there are many other options for great pizza in Italy!

04/05/2026: We visited in May, so plenty of seating. The view was amazing and the owners were very kind and helpful. The calamari and shrimp appetizer with lemon juice was great, light and tasty batter and fresh. I had the “titanic puccha”with a swordfish steak with sun dried tomato’s, straticelli cheese, lettuce, rocket. Both the swordfish and the bread were fantastic. We chatted with the owner and he insisted on providing coffee on the house. Try the Cafe Lecesse, espresso and almond milk over ice, it’s the local specialty coffee. If you are passing from Otranto to Santa Maria di Leuca, stop in Santa Cesarea Terme for a great lunch, for both the food and views!

23/11/2025: The main courses took longer than expected, but it was worth the wait. We ordered spaghetti carbonara and spaghetti aglio, oleo e peperoncino, and the main courses were especially delicious. However, the mixed fried appetizer was disappointing. The only good thing about it was the fries. But as I said, the pasta was very good. It seems like a casual eatery or a roadside bar, one of those places with a set menu in Spain. They had a lot of variety, and it seemed like the same people frequented it, like a trusted local spot.
