20/05/2024: Trattoria Vigezzina is certainly synonymous with the excellence of the Ossola area. The location has significantly improved after the last renovation, the restaurant is open on Monday - Tuesday - Friday - Saturday - Sunday. Historical note (bibliography from the Trattoria Vigezzina website): The Antica Trattoria Vigezzina was founded in 1889 by the will of the great-grandfather Croppi Cesare. The place welcomed travelers heading to Val Vigezzo who wanted to refresh themselves with local products and good wine. There was also a stable where the horses could rest for the climb. In the sixties, management passed to the father of the current owner, as well as the founder's son. The trattoria became the destination for holidaymakers heading to the Valle dei Pittori, but also for smugglers, who after having feasted, set off on their exploits towards Swiss territory. Currently, the trattoria restaurant is in its third generation (the great chef Andrea Ianni) and has been able to combine tradition and innovation thanks to the search for the perfect combination of seasonal ingredients, local products and international sophistication. The à la carte menu and other proposals of the day are quite rich, the choice of starters is remarkable, the home-made breadsticks are exceptional, the first courses are of a high standard, the second courses are sublime, the desserts are excellent, all of the highest quality and preparation. As an appetizer we savored a crouton of panbriosches with the best of foie gras and dates, then an always exceptional second course, the Chateaubriand with Béarnaise sauce served at the table with a side dish of au gratin potatoes, chestnuts glazed with red wine and red cabbage in a fragrant salad of citrus fruits, always notable dessert, the passion fruit sorbet. The wine list is quite rich, with wines from Ossola and other notable proposals for every palate, I am a lover of white wine and obviously my great passion is Gewürztraminer, so I tasted a remarkable CESLAR GEWÜRZTRAMINER Südtirol • Alto Adige DOC 2023 Traminer Aromatico, already known in the thirteenth century, is certainly the most famous South Tyrolean wine today. It probably finds its origin in Termeno (Tramin), the town from which "Traminer" takes its name. This aromatic wine, produced with grapes carefully selected by the winemaker and coming from the steep slopes surrounding Bolzano, fascinates with its intense and persistent fruity and floral scents and thanks to a light spicy note. 09/05/2024: The meat is exceptional. It's not cheap but it's more than worth the price. There is a pleasant terrace inside.
