09/08/2026: We dined at this restaurant a few nights ago and it was a very pleasant surprise. We appreciated the high-quality ingredients used in the meticulously prepared and interesting dishes. The ravioli del plin filled with faroana and hazelnuts were exceptional. We were greeted with great kindness and guided through the various courses. Highly recommended!
09/08/2026: The Flizzi restaurant in Macugnaga is the kind of place that makes you wonder why you hadn't discovered it before.
A traditional but not folksy location, the welcome is warm and friendly, yet not intrusive or overdone like a "holiday village." The owners share the responsibilities; the lady is more focused on the menu presentation, while he is clearly a passionate and expert sommelier.
The menu isn't overwhelming, which is a great thing because it guarantees attention to detail and precision in preparation—plus, there's something for every taste and appetite. The service is prompt without being overwhelming or pushy, leaving plenty of time to chat and discuss the food.
The portions are just right, no pretentious nouveau riche crumbs, and no heaps of fast-food-style "gastric fuel." Each dish is explained with affection and pride, which raises expectations—which are consistently exceeded by the food. A special mention goes to the surprising and delicious "Alpine Ramen," an "experience," as they say, that alone justifies the trip.
Reservations are recommended, especially in the evening, because word of mouth spreads, and you won't be the only ones feeling hungry in the Anzasca Valley and surrounding areas.
The price is very fair—I'd even say "a bit shy" considering the service and quality. Highly recommended, and we'll definitely return.

14/02/2026: After a 30-minute walk through the snow, we reached the refuge. The hostess was very kind and patient, especially considering we were traveling with two children. The place is very well-kept, welcoming, and warm. The food was plentiful and excellent. We tried a first course, followed by polenta and venison, and dessert.

The pasta with wild boar ragù was very authentic, and it was like immersing yourself in the history of the Lago delle Fate... very mountainous and woodland-like!!!

08/03/2026: I booked ahead because I knew I'd be there that day, and the lady was kind enough. Then, the same day, due to my delay on my return journey, I called the restaurant again to ask if I could wait an hour longer than I had booked. They also promptly said no problem. Kudos to you for your patience. We sat down, ordered, and what can I say? The dishes were plentiful and the prices were excellent. The polenta was exceptional, so much so that I complimented the owner. "The polenta tasted like polenta." You could tell it was made over a wood fire! The desserts were also very good. I'll definitely be back.
14/02/2026: The atmosphere and staff in the dining room were welcoming, but we had some dissatisfaction with the food: the soup of the day, the cheese board with bread, and the veal stew were all very good, but the polenta was lousy and the buckwheat cake with blueberry jam was awful. What was unacceptable was that when I asked how it went, I complained about the cake, and the owner explained that it was for celiacs and lactose intolerants! Aside from the fact that it wasn't written on the menu, but you can't think of making a cake for lactose intolerant people and celiacs by simply not using wheat, milk, and butter. I don't think the lady didn't know that there are lactose-free butter and milk for lactose intolerance, and gluten-free products for celiacs. So I felt like she was being mocked, especially because, to cut it short, she said, "Everyone eats it." If the lady can't accept criticism from a customer, it's better if she doesn't ask the customer how it went.

05/01/2026: For lunch on January 1st. The service was courteous and prompt despite the swarm of skiers on the ground floor. We ate lunch upstairs in the quiet, warm wooden dining room. Well-prepared traditional dishes and a good selection of cheeses.

02/06/2026: Hotel in the main square of Macugnaga (Staffa). Large, clean room, welcoming, and friendly staff. Breakfast was good. Spectacular view of the east face of Monte Rosa. Parking is available at an additional cost.
09/03/2026: Terrible experience with Hotel Dufour.
Today I tried to contact the hotel seven times in the afternoon, from 1:16 PM to 5:24 PM, with no response. Not only did no one answer my calls, but I didn't even receive a callback or even a simple message saying I'd be contacted as soon as possible.
I fully understand that there can be busy times, but completely ignoring a guest for over four hours is behavior I find truly unprofessional. Even a brief message or callback would have been enough to demonstrate care and respect.
This type of customer service unfortunately gives a very negative impression of the hotel's management. If this is how potential guests are treated even before booking, I can't imagine how the service is during their stay.
A decidedly disappointing experience.

14/07/2026: The village of Santa Maria is beautiful. It enjoys an excellent climate. The restaurateurs should renovate the premises, which are dated. It feels like going back to the 60s. The prices are normal.
14/05/2026: Excellent pizza on Saturdays and for lunch during the day. Everything is freshly made and the prices are reasonable.

05/08/2026: We had a good pizza and a good Macugnaghese. The charcuterie and cheese platter was decidedly meager, and there wasn't even a hint of cheese. For €18, I'd say it's not worth it.
The manager at the cash register (I assume she's the owner) was rudely labeling her employees. Really bad taste.
