27/07/2025: I'd call it a Kafkaesque experience.
We visited this famous Lanterna Verde on a Saturday evening, which has established itself as the deus ex machina of Valtellina haute cuisine, and here is where its decline began.
Upon arrival, we presented the gift voucher, valid for a "gourmet and gourmand" tasting menu for two, including a wine selection, as listed on their website. Without giving us a chance to explain, both the gentleman and the lady at the entrance immediately reiterated—in a cold, peremptory tone—that we should have "let them know," despite the reservation having been made days in advance. We were also told that we were lucky to be able to get a seat, given the lack of tables reserved for the evening. A welcome that, to say the least, left much to be desired.
Once seated, the tasting menu began. The entrée deserves special mention, as it was truly thoughtful and well-balanced. The rest of the courses featured original combinations, which may or may not be appreciated depending on personal taste. But the real sore point of the evening wasn't the food, but the service.
In a restaurant with a Michelin star and a green star, I expect every aspect of the experience to be meticulously crafted, including the service. Instead, the courses arrived at a rapid pace, without pause, with minimal explanations. Questions addressed to the waiters were met with flat responses, devoid of enthusiasm or detail. The younger waiters seemed like NPCs programmed solely to serve and clear the table, without a word to speak. No one expects the loquacity of General Vannacci, but neither does they expect a silence verging on silence.
The older waitress, with us, limited herself to a polite smile, avoiding any interaction, while at the next table there was no shortage of chatter, smiles, and laughter. We felt like we were treated like second-class customers, perhaps simply because we were twenty-somethings who happened to be here differently than the usual clientele? Posterity will judge.
Postscript: Between dessert and pastries, the kitchen closed down, turning off all the lights and leaving us alone in the dining room, in a surreal atmosphere more reminiscent of a tea room than a fine dining restaurant.
27/07/2025: As a novice in the field of the much-vaunted haute cuisine this place purports to offer, it feels right to faithfully represent what's offered by the infamous Lanterna Verde, a supposed bastion of the most refined dining in Valchiavenna. Once inside, we're greeted by the entire dining room staff, and immediately reveal the voucher we've been given (the most expensive and comprehensive "gourmet gourmand" voucher). The reaction is completely unexpected: bordering on annoyance, the aforementioned individuals repeatedly point out, with hints of meticulous impatience, that we should have announced this circumstance during the telephone reservation and that they could have served us deo gratias only because the restaurant was essentially empty (Saturday evening). On this point in particular, the lady was particularly pedantic. We're then led to our table in what easily resembles a Central European armory to begin the experience, overwhelmed by the waiting staff, who relentlessly dish out between courses an entree (the only real highlight, along with the baked goods) and daring appetizers, certainly displaying great inventiveness but overall bland in their practical application. The overflowing plates are preceded by glasses of wine, hastily displayed, as are the dishes themselves, which are banally and didacticly described. The staff's response to any further inquiries is tautological and entirely affected. Then it's on to the main course (lamb with pepperoni and chard). Fully aware of the typical size of dishes offered at this type of restaurant, we can't ignore two laughable slices of well-cooked meat, completely devoid of any interest whatsoever, as far as pairing goes, except with a blended red wine coordinated with a smoking process in keeping with the dish's rationale. The curtain closes with a cloying dessert and a small plate of small pastries with a transalpine flavor. But in all honesty, it wasn't so much the cuisine that marked the dinner's failure as the waiters' attitude from the start. Behind a scarcely believable, poorly acted affability, the perception is that we were truly served "out of duty" and not liked, especially by the lady, who instead engaged in sumptuous conversation with the neighboring diners. While the young waiters simply silently followed directions, at least the gentleman showed a bit more cordiality and was the only one with whom it was possible to engage in a few brief conversations about the merits of the matter. Overall, therefore, an occasional and unhappy experience: perhaps the Michelin star, the attribution of which we are certainly not qualified to question, went a bit to the Tonolas' heads, who confuse knowing how to do things well with showing off, a prerogative that no one in this strange world deserves. Remember that society isn't made up of slicked-back queers, but rather of ordinary people who have the right and the ability to get close to them. And we, who thought we'd landed in trout heaven, have come home like shrimp!

03/07/2025: Parking nearby, friendly staff, good and plentiful typical menu, quality products, clean toilets, shame about a few flies between the tables. Absolutely reasonable prices. I recommend it.

03/06/2025: My review only concerns the restaurant; we weren't at the hotel.
Simply some of the best meat I've ever eaten. The beef tartare is decadent, it's so excellent. The venison carpaccio is to die for, it's so tender and flavorful.
The rest of the meal as well.
I'm only giving it 4 stars, not 5, because the service, while very professional, competent, and attentive, lacks warmth, and that's something important to us.

15/06/2025: DISGUSTING!!! Pizzoccheri stuck to the plate and held down by butter and oil already used probably, all in pieces, pieces of pizzoccheri already chopped tiramisu composed of 99% cream the rest chocolate powder. COLD, DARK, DREARY place. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! 1 star only because they don't take away the parking then better not to describe it. A horror movie has better parking!!!!!

16/07/2025: Abbiamo mangiato gli antipasti buoni I salumi fatti artigianalmente e gli sciatt buono sia il formaggio che la pastella delicati e non unti
I primi ravioli di zucca ottimi fatti come a Mantova li sono di casa e gli gnocchi di Polenta con zola e Noci non mi hanno entusiasmato come mi aspettavo, non li riprenderei.
I secondi tagliata alla griglia buona e tenera, scotradito di agnello nella norma, Polenta taragna ne ho mangiato di migliori, mancava di sapore.
D'esser gelato fatto da loro non entusiasmante come del resto anche il sorbetto al braccio,Panna cotta buona.
Qualità prezzo nella media,porzioni normali teanne ,per i primi piatti leggermente più abbondanti del resto.
Ci tornerei per assaggiare i pizzoccheri ed il cervo.
Ambiente bello e informale, personale disponibile ma con qualche leggera distrazione nel servizio.

01/08/2025: A perfect stop at a typical crotto in Chiavenna before heading up to the Engadine! The food was truly delicious, authentic, and carefully prepared: you can taste the quality and tradition in every dish. The atmosphere is welcoming and authentic, just as you'd expect from a crotto.
The staff was friendly, quick, and very attentive, and the host welcomed us with great courtesy and professionalism.
We highly recommend this experience to anyone seeking authentic flavors and sincere hospitality. We'll definitely be back!

The hotel offers you everything, wonderful rich food, an excellent spa for relaxation, high-quality facilities ideal for athletes and for tourism.
The hotel staff is always willing and helpful for whatever you need, as well as Mr. Donato, very hospitable and kind.
You have easy access to everything. The place is charming.

08/08/2025: A week that started off on the uphill slope but continued almost perfectly.
An absolutely positive and noteworthy strength is the reception and restaurant staff. They're young, extremely kind, professional, always attentive and ready to accommodate guests' needs. A truly fantastic human experience. As a very demanding guest, I can only be extremely grateful, starting with the infinite courtesy and thoughtfulness of the young woman who welcomed and greeted us at reception.
As for the stay, I'd start with the restaurant. The breakfasts and dinners during our week-long stay were a constant and pleasant discovery.
The breakfast and dinner buffets, while not huge, offer everything you could want. They're constantly replenished, so the quantity is impeccable.
The dinners were absolutely fantastic. Every evening, you have a choice between three menus for first and second courses; the dishes are carefully prepared, plentiful, and of excellent quality. The idea is to be at the restaurant every evening. A truly delightful culinary experience with very enjoyable options. The only small flaw was the choice of only one dessert... But the ice cream as an alternative was delicious.
For these reasons, we extend our deep appreciation to the dining room and kitchen staff.
The hotel rooms are new, with great attention to detail, from the lighting to the fabric colors. They are clean.
The wellness center/pool is small but pleasant. The pool water isn't particularly hot, but I was told this is due to the chlorine-free water purification process.
The location is slightly outside of Livigno's city center, which allows for mountain views but requires either a bicycle or car to reach the center.
In conclusion, an excellent week. Thank you!

07/08/2025: After visiting the rock carvings park and the castle in Grosio, on our way back
to the parking lot, we passed this restaurant-pizzeria and, given the time, decided to stop for lunch. We were greeted with great kindness and courtesy, and were accommodated with a table outside, where a beautiful, slightly cool breeze made us feel divine.
We enjoyed the gnocchi with venison ragù, truly excellent, tagliatelle salad, fresh blueberries, and unforgettable homemade desserts. We had a wonderful time and greatly appreciated the kindness and courtesy of the lady and young woman who served us. We truly felt at home. Extremely clean, excellent food, and reasonable prices. If you go to Grosio, don't miss it.

01/08/2025: Un’esperienza culinaria davvero fantastica. Dalla prima forchettata dell’antipasto (petali di lardo su patata) all’ultima cucchiaiata del semifreddo è stata una meraviglia gustativa. Lo spiedino di manzo era cotto alla perfezione, le tagliatelle fatte in casa ai mirtilli erano buonissimi. Non posso che consigliare assolutamente il ristorante. Menù fisso visto che fa anche da albergo, mi ha dato l’opportunità di scoprire nuove ricette, e farmi sorprendere.
La presentazione anche sempre da 4*. Cordialissima. Bravi!
27/07/2025: After a nice, but not strenuous, hike, we stopped at this little mountain hut. The owners are two very nice people; her husband is a chef and very good at it. The food is excellent. She's very kind and helpful. The cakes are superb!!! Highly recommended.

Menù con pochi piatti elencati a voce,porzioni molto abbondanti e prezzi popolari.
I pizzoccheri erano buonissimi gli sciatt mi sono piaciuti meno.
Unica nota negativa l'assenza di un menù cartaceo con i prezzi.
Spesa sui 30 a persona con 2 piatti, vino e caffe.
