03/11/2025: Compared to the room I rented last year, which was simply perfect, the mini-apartment needs some work.
Overall, it feels a bit old: WiFi doesn't work, TV doesn't have a shelf, some windows don't open, and the mattress is a bit firm, but a topper would be perfect.
One last note: the bathroom, given the steps and location, could use a night light.
Otherwise, the location is stunning with a wonderful view, the staff is courteous and attentive, and the restaurant is truly top-notch.
I hope this review is helpful to those deciding on their stay and to the property, as it helps ensure a perfect experience.
20/10/2025: We received a cold welcome. We weren't given the remote control for the air conditioning, even after asking again. The rooms were cold and the heating was off.

14/10/2025: I'm editing my review from a couple of years ago to say that I've been recently and everything has changed for the worse. A side dish of simple, tasteless boiled carrots, priced at €4, is a prime example, as if it were a real side dish! Avoid.
29/09/2025: On our way to Tuscany, we were waiting to pick up our car at Chiusi, while the rental company took their mandatory two hour afternoon siesta. We chanced upon Trattoria Porsenna when looking for a lunch place and to also spend the two hours. This is by far the best meal we have had so far in our two weeks Italy trip. Thank you for a lovely meal, superb service and your kind hospitality while we waited. Great food and super value for money….Just fab!

26/10/2025: Large Italian restaurant for pizza and pasta. Fast service, the pizzas are okay for a place like this, but it's not an authentic small restaurant. A tasty appetizer is included, and a free limoncello is included with the bill. Nothing wrong with that.
20/10/2025: A truly lovely place with unique decor. The food was top-notch, truly well-cooked and well-served. The young, well-trained staff couldn't give it more than five stars, otherwise I would. Thank you so much for your hospitality; we'll definitely be back.

12/11/2025: Extremely rude service and inaccurate hours. Don't waste your time. The menu is also extremely limited.
07/11/2025: In a small side street off Via dei Banchi di Sopra, there's this little osteria with no more than five tables inside and a few outside tables in the warmer months. The owner, Luca, is incredibly kind and friendly, as are his assistants. The cozy atmosphere is almost like being at home, and the food is equally delicious, with simple yet delicious dishes.
A truly positive experience. 🌟👍

16/08/2025: Incredible fine dining experience. Impeccable attention to detail with the food and service. I wish I could have had 4x the fagiolini spaghetti with rosemary and bay leaf “fairy” dust. Ambiance dining amongst the 4 walls of a castle is unparalleled. Service ten stars. Wonderful final dinner to finish our time in Tuscany. Enjoy every moment created amongst the Tuscan stars.

Antonio Iacoviello was Head Chef at Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura for four years, a restaurant that earned a Michelin star just a few months after opening. He's now embarked on a new gastronomic adventure at Ristorante Il Pievano, located inside Spaltenna Castle, where we dined last night.
We chose the chef's freehand tasting menu, where his extensive experience and expertise shine through, offering dishes with an incredible balance of flavors.
Compliments to the dining room staff for their expertise and passion.

- A pasta dish with inedible bits of fat (€9) for the gentleman and spaghetti swimming in oil (€8) for the lady.
- €8.50 for a plate of uncooked chickpeas.
- €2.50 per place setting (a fork, no knife)
- €2 for tap water
Add to that, a very cold welcome.
This restaurant is not worth a detour.

10/11/2025: A place to be and indulge in simple, honest Tuscany cuisine - what a pleasure to had the chance to get a sweat spot on a Saturday for lunch.
We come back!
05/10/2025: We had lunch at this restaurant in the historic center of Sarteano, and what can I say? It was a wonderful experience! The atmosphere was homey, and the owner offered us delicious Cinta Senese ham as an appetizer. We ordered: a platter of cured meats and cheeses, pici all'aglione, ravioli with butter and sage, baked potatoes, biscotti and vin santo, red wine and coffee. Everything was delicious and carefully prepared. The portions were generous, and the prices were more than fair. We'll definitely be back!

20/10/2025: An experience not to be repeated...we waited an hour and a half for a plate of penne with tomato sauce and a chicken breast...and the place was practically empty. As soon as we'd eaten our dish, we, like the other three diners, went to pay without even getting our coffee!
15/10/2025: Delicious pizza and friendly service! Our dog was even allowed to come along :)

It offers drinks, croissants, cutting boards and a wide variety of books, board games and pastimes.
Hot chocolate from a machine with cream spray €3.50
Modest prices for being in the main street of the historic center of the village.
Reachable from the main car park via the public lift located behind the keep and town hall, passing through a suggestive walkway and a very well-kept modern square.

Los lugareños son muy amables y le dan la bienvenida. Todo sucede en el bar desde la mañana hasta la noche, un verdadero centro local y no todo sobre el alcohol! Los niños locales vienen y compran sus dulces y helados, etc. Un verdadero placer.
Fabuloso café y pasteles por la mañana y bocadillos de pizza, etc. durante el día
Gran parada para ciclistas!
Nos quedamos y nos sentimos parte.

been to over 100+ michelin guide restaurants over the last decade, this is by far the worst one i’ve visited. you are greeted by a lady with a condescending attitude if you don’t arrive with a reservation, even though the restaurant was fully empty.
portions are small, taste is bland, service is absolutely laughable.
just go to the osteria besides this one.
08/11/2025: The expectation where much more high that what we have find specifically for the price we have paid , the Food it’s self was lucking of flavours and ingredients where not to the level , like the non fresh truffle on top of the pasta.
Dessert were disappointing and the service was just better compared to the food but the ambience was so down on the top floor and the staff was not looking after us .
Really expensive for what you eat

19/06/2025: Seems like a local pub hangout which I like. Good food and service. Not too many beers if thats what you are looking for but many other drink options. Low prices. Indoor and outdoor seating. Dog friendly!
