03/05/2026: Just to echo all the other excellent reviews for this establishment. We booked here for a Saturday night. Lovely food and friendly service. Our bill for a shared primo piatto, two mains and a bottle of wine came to €83. They helpfully split the risotto primo piatto onto two plates. Left a tip in cash as they can't take those on cards sadly. Only a minor cover of €2 a head for their excellent bread. The brown / rye bread was fantastic. 100% recommended.

12/06/2026: On my trip to Florence, I'd say this restaurant was my favorite. The pasta was incredibly good, spectacular. The dessert was also amazing; the tiramisu was a 10/10. My only complaint was the waiter who showed me to my table. He wasn't very friendly, but the food was so good that in the end, I didn't care whether he was nice or not.

I hadn't been back in years, perhaps because of the natural skepticism I have for places "too central," but I had to change my mind and really enjoyed it. We tried two simple pizzas, a Margherita and a salami, and they were truly delicious. Low-fat, crispy, and flavorful... ideal for those seeking this style and preferring to avoid the overly pronounced crusts found at other pizzerias in the city center. The space is spacious, so you can hear a bit of conversation, but the tables with high-backed wooden benches create niches, giving you a bit of privacy; it's comfortable. Special mention goes to the staff. The staff is friendly, approachable, and well-organized. The welcome is warm and friendly. Peering around the nearby tables, I saw some truly inviting fresh pasta dishes (made in-house)—a great alternative for those who prefer traditional cuisine. The tiramisu also seems to be a sure thing: a great reason to come back. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. It's a solid, no-frills choice. If you're downtown and want to play it safe and eat a good pizza without feeling like a tourist who needs ripping off, this is the place to be. I personally will be back.

20/03/2026: Recommended to us by staff at a local winery, we first appreciated the approach, which is summed up in the menu's introduction (see photo). Everything was good, with the artichoke steamed in apple cider vinegar being exceptional (according to those who ate it). We appreciated the value for money. Recommended.

The cuisine is delicious, featuring traditional Italian dishes prepared with fresh, quality ingredients. The decor is elegant and distinctive, with a touch of old-world charm that creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The wine list is excellent, with an interesting selection of local wines. The true heart of the restaurant is Mr. Carlo, a unique presence at San Paolo. A great chatterbox, he's always ready to share his incredible story, which saw him transition from pastry making to cooking, creating a perfect blend of tradition and innovation. His warm welcome and attention to detail make him a true ambassador for the restaurant. With great charm and passion, he manages to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making every customer feel at home, recommending the daily specials and selecting the finest wines. His energy and zest for life are contagious, and made our dinner at San Paolo an unforgettable experience. We ordered: Pappardelle with duck ragù; Paccheri with scorpionfish ragù; Sea bass and red mullet millefeuille; Fresh tuna steak with rosemary on sweet and sour onions; Cheesecake; Apple charlotte, wine, and coffee. We spent €96, which was definitely worth it for the quality of the food and service. We will definitely be back.

14/05/2026: No coperto (a.k.a., cover/table charge), which was a really nice bonus. I came here twice during my trip and enjoyed both visits. The first time was around 5:30 PM, when it was still quiet, while the second time around 7:30 PM the restaurant was completely full. The staff were very friendly, and the portions were generous. The overall quality of the food was good, and the roasted potatoes served with the steak were flavorful and soft inside. On top of that, the prices were very reasonable.

30/04/2026: We didn't stay at the hotel mainly for dinner. The waiter mistakenly served our food to the next table, repeatedly apologizing, but completely ignoring us. We waited almost 50 minutes for our food, and it's highly likely they just gave us the wrong dishes. The beef, ordered medium rare, was served well-done; the foie gras was tasty, but the dumpling wrappers on top were so hard they were impossible to chew. The entire restaurant was blatantly racially discriminatory, but extremely friendly to white tourists—it was probably the worst experience I had in Italy.

31/05/2026: Excellent experience and ambience clouded by bad attitude. Strolling the side streets and minor avenues may often bring positive surprises. This will be one of them. An indeed nice spot away from the hustle and busy tourist tracks. Food is excellently well prepared. Not too much. Not too sparse. (Tosta crudo, risotto, formaggi) Served at the exact moment you are ready for it. Comprehensive - and impressive - winelist. So why just two stars for the ambience? Well this quiet evening, the owner (apparently) decided to be seated outside at the other table next to me. - He was noisy. Mainly on his phone. Watching late night shows while having his meal. Making phone calls. Informally having the staff at his table. Fine. OK. But smoking made it for me. I’d love to come back. Also with friends and family. With great pleasure. However this attitude needs to be adjusted.

14/04/2026: We visited Fattoria L’Olmetto and it ended up being one of the most special experiences of my life. As soon as we arrived, I could see how beautiful the grounds were, but I had no idea what was about to happen that evening. We started in the restaurant where we ordered the ragu, a mixed salad, and an Aperol spritz each. Everything was absolutely delicious, we didn’t leave a single thing. After dinner, we were taken outside for what I thought was just a romantic drink under the moonlight. There was a table set up with beautiful florals and two chairs, surrounded by soft tea lights. It was honestly stunning. Little did I know, that was the moment I was about to be proposed to. It was perfect, and felt like a complete dream from start to finish. A massive thank you to the restaurant staff for playing their part so perfectly and keeping everything a complete surprise. I had absolutely no idea, and that made it even more special. They were all so warm, professional, and thoughtful throughout. The food, the setting, the atmosphere, everything was just incredible. I would recommend this place a thousand times over. Thank you again for such an unforgettable experience.
