09/07/2026: We went here because nothing else was open in the area on Wednesdays. The soup was missing the rye bread. The pizza had 80% of the advertised toppings. My bell pepper was sour (from a disposable jar). I have no idea how this restaurant gets so many good reviews. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks, and we went home thirsty. We skipped dessert since neither the appetizer arrived as ordered nor the pizza was good.

29/09/2025: My girlfriend and I unfortunately only stayed one night in your cozy Ortlerblick suite on our return trip from Milan. We were overwhelmed by the beautiful 180-degree view of the Alps from our balcony and our accommodation. Our suite was very modern and absolutely clean. The Illmer family owns a very well-maintained, comfortable, and tastefully furnished property, which they make available to their guests along with friendly and courteous staff. Not only the very friendly hotelier, but also the service team took great care of our well-being. The 5-course dinner menu was exceptionally varied, a feast for the eyes, and very digestible. For a vegetarian like me, there was a huge selection of delicacies. The service came to our table regularly and discreetly to provide us with the best culinary delights. The selection of drinks, both at dinner and breakfast, left nothing to be desired. The breakfast offerings were very extensive. There were a variety of fresh juices, fruit, rolls, bread, cheeses, etc. We are very sorry we only booked for one night. Next time, we will definitely stay longer to have more time for the luxurious wellness area. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her massage in the afternoon. The masseuse was very competent and pleasantly warm. We wish the Illmer family all the best and thank you for the enchanting stay. Mrs. Wessel & Mrs. Wolf

30/12/2025: The hotel is very old, and all rooms need renovation, especially the bathrooms. The à la carte menu is very expensive and not suitable for a family, and there are no common areas.

25/06/2026: A beautiful location, good wines, and good food. The owner's wine recommendations were very appealing. Unfortunately, the service leaves much to be desired: throughout the evening, it was noticeable that regular customers were given preferential treatment, while new guests (previously unknown to the owner) were neglected. It took at least 10 minutes for us (a party of two) to receive a menu and about 20 minutes before we were offered our first glass of wine. Our appetizer order was taken incorrectly – not a big deal, as the vitello tonnato was delicious. We had to ask several times to order dessert (first for the menu, then to place the order). At the neighboring tables, which were clearly occupied by regulars, the service seemed much more attentive and efficient. Regarding the prices: they are commensurate with the excellent quality of the food and drinks, but the service (as mentioned above) is noticeably lacking for non-regulars. My conclusion: if you have to "earn" attentive service by being a regular customer, I probably won't go back. I prefer restaurants where you receive attentive service regardless of how often you visit; I don't want to be a second-class guest.

02/07/2026: It's quite impressive that a restaurant that's been open for over 20 years can still maintain this level of taste. For Chinese people who are tired of Italian food, this will be a treat, bringing back memories of home.

23/12/2025: A pleasant spot on the promenade in Merano, I had the soup of the day which was fillling and tasted good but what I liked were the sparrows which were around the tables, they were very tame and were happy enough to eat peanuts from my hand 😊

29/03/2026: I was at this place last night. Terrible service, not to mention the rude way the lady, who I believe was the owner, took my order. Arrived at 7:00 PM. After several inquiries about where my pizza was, I pointed out that my friends had finished eating a while ago. I asked the owner, who seemed disinterested. Furthermore, the drinks arrived after they had finished eating. I left at 9:30 PM. Nothing had arrived, not even the drinks. Highly not recommended.

25/12/2025: We ordered three Christmas fish menus for €50. The scallops were a terrible gratin, the cod was good, but the polenta was too hard and flavorless. The lobster main course was flavorless, and you couldn't even see the lobster on the plate. The sea bream was unsalted, and the mixture was tough. The vegetables were well-cooked, but lacked salt. There wasn't even a cruet of oil at the table. The dessert was good. I paid €175, but it was the worst restaurant I've ever eaten at. The establishment was very well-kept, clean, and welcoming.

11/08/2026: I'm truly sorry, but after about 30 years of wonderful experiences in Val Gardena, I've come across a truly subpar place. Perhaps the staff couldn't handle the large crowds, unlike other huts, but I found the service unhelpful and poor: the cutlery holders on the tables were missing cutlery and napkins, to name just one. But the icing on the cake was a horrific spectacle, supposedly reminiscent of a folk tradition in which two people, clearly tipsy, attempted to swing whips until they cracked, making sounds similar to gunshots, which terrified all the dogs following their owners. I will never return to this place and I strongly advise against it; Val Gardena certainly has much better to offer.

27/09/2025: We stumbled upon this place yesterday and it was a pleasant surprise. The dumplings in broth were delicious, and the goulash was excellent. We returned today, and the pork shank with sauerkraut was excellent and very filling.

10/07/2026: We grabbed gelato here during our stay in Dobbiaco, and I can honestly say it was my favorite gelato spot in all of Europe! We traveled around Europe for a little over three weeks, and this place completely blew me away. ​Beyond the incredible treats, the staff were wonderfully kind and professional. I have a severe food allergy to walnuts (noci), and I deeply appreciated how incredibly honest the staff were about not being able to guarantee 100% protection against cross-contamination. After carefully reviewing their menu, I noticed they didn't have any walnuts listed on the menu. I decided to take an informed risk, and I am so glad I did! The gelato was absolutely spectacular, so rich, creamy, and easily the best we had on our entire trip.
