07/05/2026: As a couple touring Emelia Romagna guided by the recommendations in New Yorker Fred Plotkin’s fantastic gourmet food guide to Italy (latest edition now 12 years old), this was a disappointing experience after eating in Firenze, Siena, and Bologna. In terms of service, this restaurant lacks the warmth and personality we’ve come to expect. The ladies serving were cordial but stiff and were not helpful paring wines with the Ferrarese multi-course dishes we ordered. We chose a red wine, Vigna del Pruno 2021, from the Ravenna region that was quite good after airing in a carafe. The cured meat appetizers were the highlight of the meal including the mild, spreadable cheese and pickled onions. The onions were a wonderful palette cleanser between meats. The next dish came in two parts. First the Cappellacci di Zucca all’ Antico Ragù surprised us as the butternut squash grown in the Ferrara region is the Violina, a sweet variety. We are learning that dishes like this which contrasts the sweet with the savory is a local tradition going back to Renaissance times. For us it is a taste needing to be acquired as we think the savory pork based ragu and pasta competes with the sweet squash filling. Also on this plate was Pasticcio all’ uso di Ferrara in crosta di Pasta frolla. Again, this is a sweet/savory combination that we’ll need to learn to appreciate. It’s a slightly sweet pastry shell filled with a good mix of pasta, ragu, nutmeg, and cheese. To our taste it would have been better served sans sugar. We were prepared to enjoy the next dish of a special salami which is highly spiced, savory, and rich in aromas as part of the Salama da Sugo con Puré di patate. We could not finish it as the sausage was over-the-top salty. No other spicy flavor was discernible as a result and the mashed potatoes soaking in the broth of the sausage was sweetened. Once more, unnecessarily to our tastes. We would have enjoyed the desserts had the salt from the previous dish not wiped out our taste buds. We can’t penalize this restaurant too much as we think the Ferrara style of contrasting the sweet with savory is not to our liking. But the unpalatable, overly salty salami was unacceptable and the service uninspiring.

04/05/2026: Excellent dinner in an elegant setting. Prompt and attentive service, very good food. We enjoyed the macaroni pie and the veal cheek. The traditional pinzini appetizer was exceptional. Highly recommended.

14/05/2026: Excellent experience, they love what they do. Delicious options, friendly staff. There are very limited seats available for eating inside the place but it is set up for take away and delivery (and during the time I ate there, about 20 pizzas were actually left). So that says something about the preference of the locals.

03/04/2026: A beautiful restaurant, immersed in the atmosphere of times gone by, yet with class and friendliness. Excellent meat and fish cuisine, including pizza. Recommended

29/03/2026: Unfortunately, everything was wrong: completely undercooked pizzas, especially the double-dough ones like in the photo. The beer was watered down, and the wine was like fruit juice. The giant pizzas that arrived were only half-cooked and lacking in sauce. To top it off, a nasty case of indigestion the next day caused by the undercooked dough, which was avoidable.

22/12/2025: The piadinas are exceptionally high-quality, both in terms of the dough and especially the ingredients. The piadinas are generous and reasonably priced. The owners are always kind and polite, no matter what time of day. A truly exceptional place, highly recommended!

26/11/2025: I stumbled upon it by chance, after a few friends always raved about it. And I have to say, it was a pleasant surprise. Friendly staff, clean environment. Coming from outside Ferrara, I decided to give it a try. And I have to say... the piadinas are super-stuffed and truly delicious. I highly recommend it. Whenever I pass through Ferrara, it's a must-try. Top.

18/05/2026: Dinner with friends, a spartan, slightly dated place, our table set with a paper tablecloth, pizzeria-style. Since it was next to the pizza oven, we left with all the smells on our clothes. The waitress was a bit awkward taking the order. The fish first course was strozzapreti with clam sauce, excellent; I mopped it up with garlic bread, which I think was placed on the table instead of bread. The mixed fried food was a bit disappointing; it was good but not top-notch, a bit greasy. I think the owners were very courteous. Having shared it with friends, they were very willing to do the math to pay, but I didn't like receiving a receipt without a price list.

18/05/2026: I ordered a takeout pizza, and when I paid by debit card, the staff reacted very unprofessionally, making inappropriate faces and jokes simply because I wasn't paying cash. The situation made me uncomfortable, and honestly, in 2026, I find it absurd that a customer would be treated this way for a completely normal payment method. The pizza was average, but the experience and the staff's behavior make me think I won't be returning.

03/05/2026: Intimate venue, excellent service and food. Good ingredients and preparation. Very well-maintained restrooms.

16/05/2026: A quaint restaurant with access from Via delle Volte. Good food, well-prepared, served quickly and with friendliness. The pinzini are excellent.

25/03/2026: This kiosk is located on Via Romea, making it very convenient for a quick, informal stop. Good value, but above all, the kindness and courtesy with which you're greeted upon entry. The place and restrooms are clean. It will be a pleasure to return when I'm in the area again.

05/03/2026: Excellent sausage and vegetable piadina. Very friendly staff, but the atmosphere is a bit "underground."

10/10/2025: A very refined and welcoming restaurant, furnished with a simple yet warm taste. The welcome was extremely courteous, making us immediately feel at home. We chose a carafe of red wine, which turned out to be surprisingly good, well above the average for what's usually offered at this restaurant. The first courses were a real surprise: the spaghetti alla chitarra with seafood and the potato and spinach gnocchi with a delicate cream, prosciutto, and chopped pistachios (off-menu, special of the day) were both excellent, with generous portions and precise cooking. The most memorable note were the tigelle: light dough, perfect air bubbles, evenly cooked. Truly among the best we've tried, true to the tradition of Pavullo nel Frignano. The accompanying cured meats were also excellent, clearly of high quality. The generous portions prevented us from continuing with other tastings, but this remains a more than compelling reason to return and explore the rest of the menu. Conclusion: a restaurant where cuisine, hospitality, and atmosphere coexist in harmony. Compliments to the dining room and kitchen staff. Highly recommended. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

11/01/2026: Clean and uncluttered, a bit vintage, the pizza is excellent, the staff is competent, but they're just a little slower to clear the table, partly because it's not a busy evening and some customers like us enjoy the conviviality at the table when it doesn't get in the way of work.
