31/10/2025: We arrived late in the morning and originally just wanted to grab some pastries. The bakery saleswoman was incredibly friendly and told us a bit about Italian pastries and related traditions. She also gave us some helpful tips. We ate two croissants and found them delicious, so we ordered more and stayed a while. The prices were very reasonable!

The arancini with ragù are also delicious, not to mention the Roman pinsa in various flavors, my favorite, and the broccoli with sausage, potatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, and cheese. I highly recommend trying their specialties.

We only chose two courses from the menu, and were told that if we had chosen the courses separately the prices would have been different, but they hadn't imagined this. We had a lentil mousse and a main course: 1 shrimp with 1 artichoke and shaved parmesan. 1/4 bottle of house wine and a chocolate heart for dessert. €97 Luckily we got the 7-euro discount! Had we known, we would have ordered the full menu and spent even less, paradoxically. The dishes were a bit sparse. The receipt was unclear, very unclear, which bears witness to what was said. We don't recommend it. I'm replying in my own review because there's no other way to respond to the Osteria. I even more strongly discourage this place, and I'd add that we wholeheartedly welcome the advice to eat a sandwich because when we decide to sit down in a restaurant, we choose by looking at the paper menu or even online, but certainly by the prices listed, not verbally, without knowing the cost of the dishes. Indeed, a self-respecting restaurant that respects its customers would also list the costs of all dishes externally, or at least bring the menu to the table. And always considering a self-respecting restaurant that deserves to be called such, it doesn't issue a receipt indicating: Main courses €90 as an indication of the entire meal. And in response to the negative review, he commented: "Let's do the math together." Math isn't done together, it's put on the receipt!! I'd add that this place is only an Osteria in name. As for the compliments, they were undoubtedly deserved, and I reiterate that the dishes were good. 10/03/2026: We didn't speak any Italian, they didn't speak any English but they were so warm and friendly. The food was so also delicious, we'll come here every time we come to Messina, hopefully with better Italian skills. Must try coffee and cannoli ❤️

17/02/2026: During the beauty fair, we stopped for dinner at this restaurant. We had a lovely meal, with both the first and second courses excellent. All seafood, of course. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing, with soft background music, friendly staff, and fast service.

29/12/2025: Updating the review: (Thanks for the tip, but the counter clerk is still there—in fact, to be precise, when I closed at Torrefaro I found her at the Via Cavour location. She's always the same rude and unwilling to work, and even my three friends who were with me this time noticed, so it's not a subjective thing. She obviously has to be with you.) Excellent granita, very fresh cream, balanced sweetness. I have to make a comment about the counter service, but I'll start by saying that it's hard to find motivated, kind, and polite staff these days because "people" work like robots, without passion, just for money. I walk in, say good morning, and the counter clerk with her black hair tied back doesn't respond, her gaze downcast, serious, and stern. She doesn't understand that if it weren't for us customers, she wouldn't be working there. However, in this place, I must say that I've also encountered kind counter clerks and they understand that anyone who enters isn't just a number like those nibbling at the gate.

17/11/2025: Excellent dishes with a good quality-price ratio

13/11/2025: Chef Calogero introduced us to the menu verbally. We enjoyed Roman-style tripe, a delicious meat tartare, and a first course we absolutely fell in love with: spaghetti with broad beans, bacon, and wild fennel. It was amazing! We'll definitely be back.
