21/08/2025: Long wait from ordering to the dishes arriving. The raw fish dish was very disappointing; the oyster and scampi were flavorless, and the scampi were not peeled. €35 for a very meager dish. Good pizza. Courteous staff. The hand dryer in the bathroom doesn't work, and there was no paper towel. High final bill. Awful asking for a tip at the cashier while paying. **Update after 3 days** They invited me to respond on Facebook to find out what went wrong. I left a polite and constructive response. They decided, being clearly mistaken on many fronts, to first delete my comment, then block me to prevent the review I left on social media from being seen. They only leave positive ones to attract those who haven't been there before. I hope this review on Google will help future customers make a wise choice about where to go. ***REPLY TO THE CAPTAIN*** Good morning, I'm not being mean in any way. I expressed a polite, respectful, and constructive opinion on Facebook after visiting your restaurant. You're incapable of accepting a less-than-positive review, but that's your problem, not mine. I definitely wasn't just talking about the price; I specifically said that the quality wasn't bad, while the presentation of the food was, unfortunately, poorly done. I also spoke well of the dining room staff, for they were kind, unlike you, who writes insults and puts words in my mouth that I've never said, since I haven't called anyone a scammer or a thief. You're talking about pockets, mine in this case... but I'll tell you, without offense, that I chose your restaurant to take my child to a less formal place, therefore a bit "lowbrow," as they say. She shot herself in the foot by thinking she was being clever by deleting a comment—I repeat, polite and constructive—without offending anyone, as she did. 25/08/2025: During the three-day Cacciucco Pride, we had lunch at Il Sottomarino Restaurant... where you can eat the best cacciucco in Livorno... 1.5 kg of pure, mouth-watering goodness!!! The restaurant is welcoming, with nautical-themed decor and fast service. We'll definitely be back!

24/08/2025: I passed through Livorno and, after asking around, I was recommended its excellent caciucco. The place is a bit dated and could use a refresh, but the caciucco is truly exceptional.

28/08/2025: Very disappointed with this restaurant: We wanted to order seafood pasta with squid ink, but they were out of squid ink. So they made us the dish without squid ink (at the same price, of course), and the dish arrived: 3 mussels, 2 cockles, and 3 tiny shrimp! Absurd... (18 or 19 euros per plate). What's more, there were 5 of us at the table, and we all had to order the same pasta because otherwise we wouldn't be able to eat together! 🤔 And finally, when the bill came, a "tax" of 2.5 euros per place was added! (We had been on the island for a week, and we hadn't yet been charged this tax). All in all, a very disappointing restaurant for us.

01/08/2025: Arriving slightly early (12:15) after the opening time (12:30), I was turned away and invited to get a coffee at a nearby café! I returned "punctually" and was assigned a table. The lunch consisted of slapdash and uninteresting dishes. High price, disappointing service, and food from the worst tavern. Perhaps the Michelin inspector who reported it got the name of the place wrong. Highly not recommended.

26/07/2025: Very nice and welcoming location, fresh and quality food, kind and professional staff, finally clean toilets. The only flaw is the inconvenience even for the disabled, going up and down the many stairs.

The most disturbing detail was finding a worm in my pasta dish, which I only discovered towards the end of the meal. The appetizers were poorly prepared. The tiramisu was bland, and I couldn't end the evening on a sweet note. If you're looking for extra protein, here's the "pasta ai vermi." Would I recommend it? Absolutely not. 🇬🇧 English I'm a bit late writing this review, and I hope no one else has had the same experience in the meantime. The food was quite heavy. 26/07/2025: I chose this place based on photos of the dishes and reviews, and I can confirm my positive impression. The staff were extremely friendly, the service was fast and attentive, the dishes were truly delicious, original, and the ingredients were top-notch. I was very satisfied. The squid ink ravioli del plin filled with fish, with a delicate sauce and crispy cuttlefish, and the sea asparagus and saffron tempura were truly delicious. Also not to be missed was the crispy octopus tentacle on basil mashed potatoes and beetroot chips. The desserts, which were homemade, were also quite good.
