29/10/2025: Great experience! Attentive, professional, and polite staff! The pizza is truly excellent, and the mozzarella is real buffalo mozzarella! Highly recommended! We'll be back.

23/10/2025: The atmosphere is a bit cold but the pizza is excellent, the beer selection is good and the service is excellent.

07/11/2025: A "quick" dinner on a Saturday night. It was the only place in the area with a table available without a reservation. The pizza was good, thin and crispy, and the fried foods were plentiful. The only downside was the Carlsberg lager on tap, which tasted very light. I recommend bottled ones from other brands.

03/09/2025: We tried this restaurant on the recommendation of friends who often go there in the evening for pizza. Since we went for lunch, we were able to try the traditional cuisine, which I must say is quite to my liking for the first courses. However, it must be said that they don't turn on the oven for lunch (so we were told), so everything is a bit limited... It's a shame, because the options are all there to make this restaurant competitive with other restaurants in town. The appetizers were good but also quite predictable, and the desserts were average. We tried the first courses (pictured), and I must say the gnocchi with meat sauce were very good, homemade with white Pietralunga potatoes. The ragù was excellent... As for the tagliatelle with truffle, perhaps the butter was added, which slightly altered the flavor of the truffle (perhaps summer truffle), which, being very delicate, faded slightly with the rest of the sauce. However, the tagliatelle were cooked well. We didn't order anything else, so I'll reevaluate when I go that evening, if that happens. The service was excellent, courtesy of a very kind, yet shy and reserved young woman who satisfied us in every way... The owner, perhaps a little more aloof and cold, didn't immediately inspire any fondness... but maybe that's just my impression. The prices and atmosphere are excellent, as is the case with the rest of the area... They're fortunate to be in a town surrounded by scenic views that alone bring peace and beauty to those who visit! The fact that they can offer such prices shows that it's still possible to offer high-quality dining with authentic food at a reasonable price. The fourth star is therefore justified. I hope to be able to further improve this rating soon.

24/08/2025: We had a wonderful evening at "Osteria i Birbi," which boasted a charming, rustic ambiance that perfectly captured the spirit of the city. The service was excellent—our waiters were attentive, courteous, and very friendly. The menu featured a compelling selection of unique and sophisticated dishes as well as a great selection of delicious wines. To start, we chose the Zucchini Flower Tempura with ricotta, olives, and a buffalo mozzarella cream tomato sauce. For our primi courses, we selected the Tortelli stuffed with "Pappa al Pomodoro" and the Taglierini with black seasonal truffle. Our main course was an Argentinian sirloin cut with rosemary oil, served with a side of ratatouille. The tortelli and the steak were particular highlights. We finished with two desserts: the Bavarian cream with apricots, peach mousse, passion fruit, crumble, and traditional balsamic vinegar drops, and the Fruit compote with ricotta cheese foam, almonds, and cocoa grue. Unfortunately, these didn't quite live up to the rest of the meal. While the food was truly excellent, we felt the prices were somewhat high.

24/09/2025: Good 3 star hotel in the centre of town. It is old but very well maintained only does B&B now. Nice view from the terrace we you can relax. Our room was ok a decent size as it was at the front ove over the street it was are if the windows were open ( they do have a/c but it was off when we were there in September) .

04/10/2025: We ordered a takeaway from here because my mother was unable to navigate the steeps steps and slopes of Spoleto, so we were very relieved to find a place that did both gluten free and deliveries! We enjoyed the GF tortelloni, the entrecote with chips, and GF pinsa (which to me was like a cross between a pizza and a foccacia - either way, it was delicious). Impressed with the delivery person having to bring the food to us on foot.

Having lived in Umbria for the past four and a half years, we have grown to truly appreciate fine food and wine, and for me as a passionate food and wine lover, there is simply no better place than this culinary jewel in Montone. Chef Giancarlo Polito is more than just a master in the kitchen... he is a true gentleman. His genuine care for his guests and his dedication to creating unforgettable dining experiences set this restaurant apart. Every visit feels special, thanks to the perfect combination of exquisite cuisine, warm hospitality, and an atmosphere that makes you want to stay much longer. We absolutely love it here, and La Locanda del Capitano continues to be one of the highlights of our life in Umbria.
