08/06/2025: Pub Skala, which is only a pub in name, is actually an authentic Slovenian tavern hidden in the small village of Gropada, on the border between Italy and Slovenia. The streets here are so narrow that you can barely get through with a small car, and it really feels like you're in the middle of nowhere. Yet, this place offers a unique experience. Here you can find good German beer, which is rare in the area, and at more than fair prices. Finally you can taste some real original German Hell and Bock! But it's not just the beer that makes the difference: the cuisine offers traditional dishes such as jota, a dish loved in these parts, which ranges from Istria to the Slovenian Karst to Trieste. A tip not to be underestimated: add 4-5 tablespoons of Cabernet or even better Teran to your jota and drink the rest of the bottle. I guarantee that that day will remain etched in your memory. The pork shank with polenta is a real treat, as is the hamburger, ham and mushroom sandwich. And to top it off, the palačinke with white chocolate and strawberries are the perfect finale. If the wine and beer haven’t already made your eyelids droop, these will surely send you into a sweet slumber.

14/06/2025: Simply fantastic! Excellent food, from appetizer to dessert (I recommend the salted caramel mascarpone which was the icing on the cake). We ate very well, the house wine was also very good. The owners are very kind and friendly, the service was fast but without giving the impression of being in a hurry. We really had a great time. A must if you pass through Trieste. Congratulations! Everything was so good that I forgot to take photos..

11/06/2025: We stumbled upon this lovely family-owned restaurant that proved to be a hidden gem. Even though we arrived without a reservation and before they were officially open, the owner warmly welcomed us and let us settle in outside. While we waited, we were given complimentary aperitivos and delicious appetizers. The service throughout the evening was welcoming and genuine. You could truly feel the care and passion that goes into this family establishment. Food was absolutely delicious and wonderfully original - mixed fried seafood, a perfectly prepared seafood pasta, and an impressive mixed platter. While it might be a bit off the beaten path, it's worth the walk!

08/06/2025: Authentic and deliciously prepared local cuisine served in moderized and tasteful vaulted rooms with countryside charm ( note the antique mirrors). A soothing jazz playlist sets the stage for a great dining experience. Artichokes served in several dishes are great choices.

27/06/2025: Great Indian restaurant, super welcoming staff and willing to explain the dishes. There were two of us, we had an appetizer, two main courses and two desserts (and a chai). Tried a few dishes, will definitely return!

21/06/2025: Really nice smaller restaurant! Just the place we were looking for! Great Italian dishes with local ingredients. We had a fantastic white wine also from the region perfectly paired with our fish! The music was fantastic! A good mix of jazz music. Sounded like someone with a good taste and some knowledge had made the playlist! Would say the desserts weren’t the best. The tiramisu was watery and I would say I expected more. But overall, I would recommend anyone to try this place out!

Die Ungastlichkeit sowie völlige Empathielosigkeir des Padrones hat jedoch das Gaumenerlebnis getrübt .Dieser scheint seine begrenzte Freundlichkeit nur Einheimischen gönnen zu wollen. Glücklicherweise konnte die überaus freundliche Kellnerin den Gesamteindruck meliorieren.

15/07/2025: A little gem hidden in the heart of Trieste! Buffet Da Gildo is a cozy, simple place with an authentic atmosphere, far removed from mass tourism. Perfect for those who want to discover the typical flavors of local tradition. The service is fast, always friendly, and attentive. The menu showcases the influences of the city of Trieste, the people who have inhabited and passed through it, with dishes made only with top-quality ingredients. The gnocchi with goulash are absolutely not to be missed: the sauce is rich and flavorful, while the gnocchi melt in your mouth. The sardines are also excellent, fresh and crispy. Although for me, a special mention goes to the sandwich with hand-sliced cooked ham, enriched with fried eggplant, mustard, and horseradish: a strong and authentic combination, worth the visit alone. The prices are truly fair, especially considering the quality of the ingredients.

23/05/2025: Very nice restaurant in Trieste where you can eat Friulian cuisine. The food is very good, even though we had to wait over an hour for our first courses. The cjarsons were a little below expectations because their version seems to be completely lacking cinnamon, which is precisely the component that makes them special. It's also a shame about the Turkish toilet, given the profile of the restaurant, I would have expected a toilet with a water closet.
