21/08/2026: Following the positive reviews I took a 40 minute bus ride to come and eat at this restaurant, but today, Friday 20 August 26, I found it closed, I don't know if they are on holiday or if they closed, I didn't see any signs or indications, on the various websites it was open... too bad
19/03/2026: We've been there several times, but before the renovation. Today we returned. The place had a strong smell of a not-so-clean kitchen, average-to-low quality food, sauces and gravies that didn't match the type of pasta they were paired with, few desserts and not particularly good ones, a limited selection of liquors, and the service was always friendly but unwelcoming and uninformative. Superficial responses to specific questions. This new management doesn't live up to the restaurant's history. Unfortunately, we've lost a good place in the neighborhood.

One of the worst pizzas I've ever eaten.
Tough dough, hard to chew, not crispy, and really hard to chew. Very heavy.
17/05/2026: I had pizza delivered for the first time. It was Sunday evening, and they warned me there would be a wait. The pizzas arrived piping hot, crispy, and fragrant.
The dough was delicious, with excellent toppings. The price was super fair.

Great service. Fast. Could understand us clearly.
Noodles quality was top. What else do you want when you are looking for lunch at late afternoon.

06/08/2026: A must-see, the James Joyce Café offers a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere, complemented by the historic charm of the place.
The coffee is excellent, and the selection of appetizers is truly inviting.
The staff is courteous, smiling, and always available.
The café's location is perfect for a break during a stroll through the historic center.
I highly recommend it to anyone who, like me, wants an authentic Trieste experience in a place as rich in character as the James Joyce Café.
I'll be back!
31/07/2026: Bar with much potential but instead its old and dirty. Is there no money for a renovation? Paint the walls, get rid of the mess and make the golden bar again the centerpiece. Open some windows.

09/11/2025: It's a shame the staff was inattentive, because the coffee and pastries were good.
The women's restroom was out of order, and the men's restroom was filthy. A regular customer reported that it had been out of order for quite some time.
07/11/2025: A café that doesn't serve hot chocolate in the fall, oh well. I get a cappuccino and the milk is a little sour. Never mind, Trieste has no shortage of cafés.

22/06/2026: I ordered delivery through Just Eat, and the service was pretty quick.
Overall, the sandwiches were good, but we were particularly disappointed with the cheddar and bacon fries. Buying the extra is completely pointless: two pieces of bacon and a sprinkle of cheddar...
11/05/2026: I don't usually write reviews, but HB deserves it. The food is delicious and the quality of the ingredients is truly exceptional. We've been regulars for over two years now, and the quality hasn't changed, which is by no means a given. The service is excellent, and they're very friendly and helpful. One of their delivery drivers, in particular (a man with blue or green eyes), is incredibly friendly, polite, and sweet. I recommend it to everyone.

05/06/2026: Driving around 9 PM, I exited the highway, but I really needed gas.
They refused two cards for payment. No explanation other than "Card refused," and not just any card, but a Unicredit and an Intesa Sanpaolo card, which weren't exactly bad. Not having enough cash, I had to find another gas station with a reserve, risking being left alone and without a car in an unfamiliar area. Never again!
13/04/2026: I work less than a kilometer away, and on my way home I filled up. Like almost all residents of Friuli Venezia Giulia, I have the fuel discount app, and unfortunately, the gas station's reader app was down at the time. He was very kind, and he let me pay the discounted price with the promise to come back as soon as the situation was resolved.
At another gas station in the city near the RAI headquarters where I usually go, things didn't go so well: I had previously used the microchip card there and never removed it from my wallet, but the next time it was found to be "demagnetized," meaning it had actually been burned by the reader the previous time, or on that very occasion. I paid the full price without appeal.

09/06/2026: was here in 2023 and this is still one pizzeria I keep thinking about. Absolutely wonderful staff who helped us out with the menus, absolutely wonderful wine and delicious pizza. The atmosphere was also really nice!
