21/03/2026: I visited L'Ottava Nota restaurant in Palermo with fairly high expectations. The setting is elegant and the atmosphere pleasant, perfect for a quiet evening. The dishes are beautifully presented, and the quality of the ingredients is evident, although some flavors didn't particularly impress me. Specifically, the beans in the fish and blue crab main course were decidedly tough (unthinkable for a Michelin-starred restaurant). Service was friendly but a bit slow at times. Overall, a good experience, but not quite up to expectations. With a little more attention, it could be truly excellent.

The dining room has a pleasant, intimate atmosphere and a maximum capacity of 25 guests. We had the six-course menu at a fair price for the quality. Each dish was explained in detail. An unforgettable evening of superb Sicilian cuisine featuring many local products.

05/04/2026: On the way to our B&B, we happened to meet Andrea, the waiter at Opera. He immediately impressed us with his friendliness and trust, so we decided to stop there for dinner. We were completely satisfied: fresh and plentiful food, impeccable service, and more than fair prices. But what made the experience truly special was the splendid view of the Valley of the Temples.

The food here is truly excellent; the fish is top-quality, the wine is delicious, and the staff is kind and courteous. They even offered us dessert. We had a great time, and the atmosphere was heavenly. Again, if you don't appreciate good food, please go to Mac. Leave it as the gem it is.

11/04/2026: "Dry" dish The pasta seems poorly bound: Not enough cooking juices Not enough oil/emulsion → result: flat taste 2. Under-appreciated fish For a dish that promises "many types of fish": There were 2 shrimp a few pieces of shellfish, but nothing abundant or prominent → it seems more like a "scattered condiment" than a true seafood dish 3. Topping that covers rather than enhances Those crumbs on top (dried fruit) are typical Sicilian, however: there are a lot of them and they cover the flavor of the fish → if the sauce underneath is weak, it worsens the sensation 4. Incomplete creaming The pasta should be shiny and creamy (even without cream!), but here it appears a bit "separated" 👉 Simply translated: it's not a successful dish

21/04/2026: Bravissimo! I first saw this restaurant in a video with Chef Giovanni making caponata. I followed his work in that video and have been making my caponata very similar to his. We're in Ortiga for the week and had a chance to dine here. The outstanding service started with Roberto carried through right the rest of the staff to the end of the evening.

In the heart of Palermo, the Sciarrino brothers have built something beyond the classic pizzeria: a place where technique, research, and Sicilian identity coexist perfectly. The dough is clearly the result of careful study: light, flavorful, and extremely digestible. Each bite delivers balance, without ever being heavy. What's most striking is the ability to transform simple, local ingredients into contemporary, elegant, and never banal pizzas. The pizza I chose tonight, with fennel, anchovy, oranges, and wild fennel, and a touch of orange oil, was immediately a refined reminder of a typical ancient Palermo salad: fresh, citrusy, with a perfect balance of sweetness and aroma. A thoughtfully crafted pizza, crafted with intelligence and a strong personality that evoked childhood memories of my grandparents' house in the summer, that unique aroma of that salad that only as an adult did I truly appreciate, and that only those who know tradition can remember! The truffle pasta frittatina with fresh shavings was also extraordinary: crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, intense, enveloping, but always well-balanced, without being overbearing. The sausage and broccoli rabe my boyfriend chose was also impeccably executed: top-quality ingredients, well-balanced flavor, and a dough that enhanced every element without overpowering it. At Cagliostro, you can sense a constant research into flours, leavening, cooking methods, and the selection of raw materials. But what makes this place special is that all this technique is never ostentatious: it arrives at the table naturally, through pizzas that express Palermo in a modern, elegant, and recognizable way. A place that truly deserves all the accolades it's received to date, and much more! Well done guys!
