24/10/2025: Excellent food and wine. The opening time is wrong. They open at 7:30 PM. The carbonara was spectacular and the seafood pasta was also good.

09/12/2025: Great food, the best in Rome! Can't recommend enough! Artichoke appetizer, prosciutto and burrata. Meatballs and fettuccine with pork ribs and sausage. Don't forget dessert!

20/11/2025: This place is really a hidden gem. They have great service, and the best focaccia we ever had. We tried so many restaurants in Rome and it is hard to find good ones... we have tried restaurants recommended by our hotel, on social media, on reddit, and most of the time the food was not even comparable to the food here. If you give it a try, make sure to order the focaccia. You will be happy you did!!

05/12/2025: Exceptional traditional Roman dishes. Today we had rigatoni with pajata, tripe with tomato sauce, and puntarelle (simply divine). Good red wine, really satisfied. Generous portions and very well seasoned, even the bread was very good. Fast and very courteous service, excellent selection.

03/12/2025: Visited in March 2025. After visiting the Vatican, I had wanted to visit a restaurant, but my schedule didn't allow for it, so I went there in a hurry. The fried squid paired with the beer was fantastic. The friendly staff made the meal even more enjoyable. I'm planning another trip to Rome and the Vatican in January of next year, and if I have the time, I'd love to visit this place again.

24/11/2025: A simple trattoria in the African Quarter, with indoor and outdoor tables. The table setting is minimal but appropriate (the change of cutlery after each course is a plus, which isn't typical for everyone). The young staff is very courteous, helpful, and welcoming, as is the manager, who puts guests at ease. The menu includes Roman dishes, and new daily specials are posted monthly on the blackboard. The dishes are tasty and well-portioned. The manager, very polite and open to discussion, acknowledged my complaint about the cacio e pepe being served lukewarm because the cold dish made the pasta less creamy. Acknowledging my complaint, he removed the cacio e pepe from the bill. The dishes are well-cooked and flavorful, and the prices are reasonable. I will return, especially for the overall service. Parking is also easy in the areas surrounding the restaurant. RECOMMENDED

04/12/2025: We were very excited to visit Piatto Romano on our last night in Rome. I have Coeliac disease and I am vegetarian. We read various reviews saying they catered to gluten-free diets and have vegetarian options. We checked their menu online and found good options. With this research, we made our reservation online and specified that one of us in Coeliac vegetarian and to please let us know if they could not cater for that. We walked across Rome to get to Testaccio and by the time of our booking, we were FAMISHED. On the night, Piatto Romano had a different menu to online - no worries, great that the menu is seasonal. However, there were NO substantial gluten-free vegetarian options. We were at first told that they could do a gluten-free pomodoro pasta but then were told that they had "run out" of gluten-free pasta, which was weird since we were the first sitting and the restaurant was not busy yet (also we had just been at a chemist/pharmacy the street over where they had about five types of gluten free pasta for sale - it would have been easy to replenish). There was not a single main they could do, nor did they have any potatoes or polenta or anything else that I could bulk out a meal with. My husband wanted to leave but I didn't want him to miss out on experiencing real Roman Amatriciana. Our waiter (American I believe) did not care whatsoever. He just shrugged his shoulders and left us. I ended up having purreed pumpkin and chestnuts with no bread for my entree/appetiser, and very slimy rounds of fried eggplant with a smattering of pine nuts for my main. I was so disappointed and hungry I ended up silently crying at the table, watching as my husband ate. This is a great place if you have no dietary requirements. If you do though, this is not the place for you!

04/12/2025: Ate here at lunchtime- service was really friendly, I had Amatriciana which was delicious followed by pork chop and stir fried mustard, both wonderful. Service was really friendly too, I'd definitely visit again

23/11/2025: We stumbled upon it by chance, and it was a lovely surprise! Delicious, simple, and high-quality dishes, as well as generous portions. The ricotta and sour cherry tart was exceptional...the service was friendly!!! Highly recommended!!!!!

The restaurant is simple, welcoming, and well-maintained, with fast, friendly service that instantly makes you feel at home. The menu features traditional classics: carbonara, amatriciana, cacio e pepe, and main courses prepared with fresh, expertly prepared ingredients. The portions are generous, and the flavors are truly "homemade," just as the name suggests. The appetizers and desserts are also excellent, completing a pleasant experience from start to finish. An excellent choice for those looking to eat well near the university area, with a very competitive price and a genuine, no-frills atmosphere.

18/12/2025: We showed up without a reservation and were offered a table only until 8:30 PM, as everything was booked, which we gladly accepted. After about ten minutes, we ordered, but after 45 minutes, our dishes still hadn't arrived; we were informed that the order hadn't been recorded correctly. Ten to 15 minutes after repeating the order, the dishes arrived, but one was incorrect. We decided not to have it remade to avoid further waiting. We didn't like the bread we ate during the hour-long wait, but we found the homemade pasta good. Overall, the problem wasn't the wait itself or the incorrect order, but the feeling of being neglected and treated carelessly, which negatively impacted our experience. Mistakes can happen, but what was lacking was the attention to the customer and the foundation of service, leaving us with the feeling of having been neglected.

16/12/2025: What can I say... Rita is a guarantee... with her delicious food and her kindness!!!... the bruschetta she brings with the appetizer is always top notch... the pasta with pecorino cheese and mint... go!!! Try it and believe it!!!!

02/12/2025: I'll be back! As soon as I get back to Rome, I have to try all the dishes I missed on Saturday. Delicious cacio e pepe, spectacular vegetables, unbeatable desserts, and for those coming from Pavia, that wholesome, warm Roman atmosphere that stays with you even afterward!!!
