18/03/2025: Best meal of our Italian trip. We arrived in Matera early evening on a Wednesday in March, a day when many restaurants are closed. Osteria San Francesco is a small family-run place, with a calm, modern, relaxing vibe. Excellent local dishes, which you can watch the chef prepare. We were the only guests in the restaurant that night. Lovely service, excellent value. I'd love to go back!

19/01/2025: Fabulous.. we went to eat with my wife and 8 month old little pest before visiting the city of Matera. The food was great, the service quick and the staff very friendly. We really liked it. It is a place not to be missed for celiacs and non-celiacs.

I am usually not adventurous at all when choosing food but as we are visiting friends who live in this town and they arranged a private meal with Chef Pepe I said I would try everything To say I was amazed at the flavour and deliciousness of each dish is an understatement Each plate of food was amazing. 02/11/2024: Excellent piade & piadipizza flavors with fresh ingredients and interesting local beers. The local sparkling lemonade with three varieties of lemon is the best thing for a hot day.

19/02/2025: Cena da solo nel corso di un viaggio di lavoro (suggerito da hotel). Location straordinaria: ha una terrazza panoramica sui Sassi con tavoli idonei a una cena romantica. Ambiente confortevole, accoglienza cordiale, servizio celere e professionale. Piatti ineccepibili: tradizione e buona qualità delle materie prime di base e ottimo lavoro in cucina. Carta dei vini adeguata con in più un dignitosissimo Primitivo servito al calice o in brocchetta come vino della casa. Rapporto qualità prezzo corretto.

20/02/2025: This is a comfortable and unique place for a meal. The house wine was nice. The staff was helpful in picking out a flavorful pasta dish with peppers Crusco and Caciocavallo cheese. We were easily sold on desert when told the ice cream was made in house and came with a whiskey caramel sauce!

26/01/2025: Location strepitosamente elegante Cibo prelibatissimo dalla pignata alla Materana “servita in coccio” allo stinco di maiale alla birra rossa e per finire uno stupendo baccalà alla materana con pomodorini freschi, capperi e olive. Beh che dire …. Vi hanno accolti con molta eleganza, ci hanno accompagnati in questa avventura di sapori particolari e gradevoli al palato. Ogni ingrediente era al suo posto e ben dosato. Esperienza unica da rifare altre 1000 volte COMPLIMENTI. ! !!! !

25/03/2025: We discovered this fantastic restaurant on Saturday for lunch with friends.........A combination of refinement, raw materials and preparation by the chef and the wisdom in the narration of the courses and in the wine recommendations by Salvatore make the experience and the place unique in the area. Quality and tradition come together in a marriage of harmonies for the palate that evokes the past and tradition of Lucania, allowing you to immerse yourself in a journey (tasting exceptional appetizers) of superlative food and wine. An experience to try and I recommend it to anyone who is in the area.

03/01/2025: I have no words to describe the evening spent here. I am writing on behalf of three people: myself and two friends. We were welcomed in a masterful way, Luigi and Sisina opened the restaurant for us even if we were alone. They fed and entertained us all evening. I heartily recommend the recipes with bran peppers. It is now rare to find places like this, where catering is seen as a profession that is a source of pride. Highly recommended to anyone who will have it lucky to enjoy this place before it (alas) closes soon.

29/12/2024: Popular and rich cuisine, competent and courteous staff, well-equipped and comfortable environment, the only flaw was that I couldn't watch my Bari match on TV.

11/08/2024: Only stayed for 1 night. Clean rooms and equipped with every comfort. Very friendly, polite and helpful staff. Good breakfast. I recommend and hope to return

24/03/2025: Filosofia Slow Food rispettata: location bella a ridosso dei Sassi, pulita, salumi, formaggi, pasta e condimenti tutto di ottima qualità (una menzione particolare per la costata che non ha nulla da invidiare a quelle fiorentine); piatti della tradizione con tocchi di originalità che arricchiscono ma non stravolgono le aspettative; cantina ben fornita; personale gentilissimo e servizio perfetto. Prezzo adeguato. Quindi...buono, pulito e giusto.

25/02/2025: It may have been an unlucky winter evening but the restaurant did not meet our expectations at all. As they say, a battle menu and purely tourist menu. The paccheri with low quality stracciatella and pistachio (not edible), the broad bean and chicory soup which seemed to have been thrown away at random. I'm sorry but I don't recommend it.
