La Talpa In Matera

On Monday evening, July 20th, we celebrated our wedding vows here at Talpa, and we couldn't have chosen a better place!!! ;) The location is truly enchanting, nestled in the splendid setting of our Sassi di Matera, filled with fairy lights, music, and dancing that created a romantic and relaxing atmosphere. At just the right moments, we even got to hit the dance floor and let loose!!! ;) The Talpa team was extraordinary... from the wonderful owner Donatella, to our dear chef, to the talented and friendly waiters... they were all impeccable, professional, kind, welcoming, and attentive, and even extended their closing day to allow us to celebrate. Furthermore, they served us delicious and abundant food... the chef was so skilled at turning simple dishes into true delights for our palates that we asked for several seconds; all our guests were amazed and super satisfied. Exceptional location. Every detail has been meticulously designed. Excellent ingredients and excellent value. The staff is always available, friendly, and ready to meet every customer need.

Typical dishes that make you want to discover and savor them. Efficient and quick service, without being rushed. The location is quiet with Italian songs playing softly in the background.

It's been a while since I've had such a good and fragrant pizza: the ingredients are top-quality, the Primavera and Cardoncelli are worth trying, and the pizza is deep-crusted. Quick service, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be back. I recommend booking by phone. (Update 2026: unfortunately, pizzas are no longer on the menu, but the dishes available are still top-notch.)

Fresh produce. The price is a bit high for the quality. You're paying for being within the city walls of Matera 😉 Book in advance or arrive early in the evening, otherwise you'll have to wait for a table to become available.

Four of us had a wonderful dinner here. The food was delicious.

My husband and I ate at this restaurant last night beautifully set in a Sassi Cave. The food was incredible! The sauces, pastas and meat dishes were wonderfully cooked to perfection. The chef and cook put their heart and soul into their craft and you could taste it in every bite! I would highly recommend having dinner here when in Matera!!

We dined at La Talpa restaurant in Matera, and it was a truly special experience, one that stays in your heart. The atmosphere here is unique: the restaurant, carved into the Sassi, is charming and authentic, perfect for immersing yourself in the history and tradition of the area. But the real highlight is the cuisine. Eating at La Talpa is like returning to grandma's house on a Sunday: authentic dishes, rich in flavor, and prepared with love. Each course reflects Lucanian tradition, with simple yet exquisite ingredients. Authentic, intense flavors that take you back in time. The service is welcoming and warm, just as you'd expect in a place so tied to tradition. An authentic return to the flavors of yesteryear, in a unique setting. Highly recommended, we'll definitely be back!

It wasn't just a dinner, but an unforgettable sensory journey. Dishes that are true works of art, incredible flavors that tell the story of Matera with love and passion.
