Cozy and characteristic place ..... located in the historic center close to the San Michele Arcangelo abbey. The welcome, the service and the dishes are were excellent! The friends/colleagues ..... coming from a neighboring municipality .... appreciated everything very much. To conclude. ....highly recommended place😀👍

Come da titolo, la cosa che mi ha colpito è stata la scritta sotto l insegna del locale(lobaratorio del gusto). Quando ho incominciato a mangiare ho capito il perché di quella scritta!! Partiamo dal dire che è una locanda con al massimo 30 coperti, pulizia del locale e cortesia del personale top, il menù non presente,ma è presente il proprietario- cuoco che ad ogni portata viene a consigliarvi i suoi cavalli di battaglia ( affidatevi a lui e non rimarrete delusi soprattutto con il pesce) tutto pesce fresco cucinato in modo diverso da un comune ristorante ecco perché LABORATORIO DEL GUSTO. I prezzi sono nella norma anzi, se mettiamo la genuinità dei prodotti il modo in cui vengono preparati, in altre parti d Italia si spenderebbe molto di più. Non è una trattoria non è un ristorante comune È la locanda dell Abbate!

I had my birthday dinner here : highly recommended. No menus but all courses are seafood. Even if we couldn’t speak Italian, the main chef came to explain us.

Nel meraviglioso centro storico di Montescaglioso (inspiegabilmente semideserto) questo ristorante che serve menu' a base di pesce fa bene all'anima e alla pancia. Ambiente piccolino, intimo. Lo chef Peppe, uomo all'apparenza ruvido ma sensibile, con il sorriso ti fa capire che mangerai bene. Cosi' è stato; per citarne alcuni: ottimo il risotto, delizioso il tortino di calamari su gazpaco al pomodoro. Personale di sala attento, professionale e piacevole. Consigliatissimo.

It is a very intimate place with few seats, located in a small square close to the abbey in a house in the historic centre. The owner, an excellent chef, offers a particular menu for each meal, very well studied, harmonizing the flavours: I therefore recommend that those who have certain obsessions book in advance and agree on the menu! I was there on a Sunday for lunch and all the courses were based on the harmony of the catch with the scent of citrus fruits. The four starters: half an orange stuffed with cuttlefish slices with orange sauce and baked au gratin; roasted octopus (cooked excellently: I usually don't like it!) dressed with orange mayonnaise; steamed cod in broad bean sauce and a citrus calamari pie. We should have had a "taste" of the three first courses (ravioli, gnocchi and risotto) but the quantity and quality of the lemon risotto (perfectly balanced) made us opt for the second course: breaded prawns with a citrus broad bean sauce. I don't eat sweets, but my partner had a delicious almond cake sprinkled with hot cream. All accompanied with an excellent Greek made from local tuff bottled by Mr. Giuseppe who, during the preparation breaks between one dish and another, stopped by to chat friendly with us. The two girls who wait on the tables also proved to be kind, attentive and smiling. Absolutely recommended. Obviously you weren't expecting to pay 25 euros, but double, but it's really worth it and the price is more than reasonable.

Exceptional restaurant. First time I have dined without a menu, the chef offers us his starters, main courses and desserts, a superb, extremely rare tasting as well as the wine. thank you Pietro for your cooking.🤩🤩 I will go back.

Excellent cuisine!!! There is no fixed menu, but Pietro always prepares the menu fresh and with changing dishes. We had a 5 course meal with wonderful creations of fish and squid. Pietro, with his experience as a sommelier, gave us a perfect recommendation for the wine. Finally, dessert, dessert wine and coffee. Highly recommended! Gourmet cuisine! Price/performance absolutely top.
