12/03/2026: As a Chinese American traveling with my husband, a white American, I approached our dinner at Aria in Courmayeur with high expectations. After a week in town filled with warm hospitality, attentive service, and memorable meals, this was the one evening that left me unsettled. Following a long day on the slopes, we arrived looking forward to a relaxed dinner. The menu was presented in both Italian and English, and we ordered two primi—a mushroom risotto and gnocchi—along with a single secondo to share. Based on the English description, we chose what seemed like a straightforward dish: a beef fillet with potatoes. The meal began pleasantly enough with an amuse-bouche of a fried olive stuffed with meat, a thoughtful and flavorful opening. Initially, I opted not to order wine in hopes of sleeping better after skiing, though midway through the meal I changed my mind and requested the wine list. Unfortunately, it never arrived. Given the late hour—around 9 p.m., near closing—we assumed the staff was simply busy and let it go. The gnocchi and risotto arrived and were quite good. However, by this point our table had run out of the water we’d ordered. We asked for more, yet while other tables seemed to receive prompt refills and attentive service, our request went unanswered. The real confusion came with the secondo. When it arrived, it was clearly not what we expected: a piece of fish resting on a red sauce—no beef, no potatoes. We tried to clarify with the server and asked to see the menu again. The version brought to us looked different from the one we had ordered from; the English description no longer mentioned beef, though it still used the word “fillet.” When I explained that we had ordered “beef,” the server curtly responded, “pig.” The exchange went nowhere, and my husband suggested we simply move on rather than argue. We ended up eating the fish we hadn’t intended to order. By then, the atmosphere at the table had shifted. Small details compounded the frustration: when the shared secondo arrived, we were given three knives and only one fork. No one noticed or corrected it. At that point, my mood had soured completely. I left the table while my husband settled the bill. To be clear, there was no explicit comment or action that could be labeled as racist. Yet the contrast in attentiveness between our table and others was difficult to ignore. Throughout our time in Courmayeur, we encountered language barriers in several places—restaurants, bars, even brief street interactions—but those moments were consistently met with patience and kindness. Here, the experience felt markedly different: distant, dismissive, and oddly unwelcoming. Whether the issue stemmed from miscommunication, assumptions about American tourists, or the fact that we hadn’t ordered an expensive bottle of wine at the outset, the end result was the same. For visitors—particularly Americans or travelers of color—who simply want a respectful dining experience and to receive what they ordered, Aria may not deliver the warmth that Courmayeur otherwise offers in abundance.

08/03/2026: Excellent place for dinner. I had the best fondue of my life here, honestly! Their salted caramel gelato was phenomenal!! The rice, unfortunately, wasn't cooked very well, but the flavors were delicious. They're very careful about gluten-free options! The girl who served us (a brunette with bangs) was amazing! Really nice and friendly! I'll definitely be back! And I highly recommend it!

09/12/2025: Upon entering the restaurant, we were informed that we couldn't order anything other than pizza. Then some locals came in and ordered something other than pizza—outrageous behavior toward a customer. After making an appointment with the waitress for "dessert later," she brought it much later than expected, even though she saw that no one had eaten yet, and she stood there doing nothing.

26/11/2025: Ordered three hot chocolates. Very runny, like the ones made in coffee machines. A chocolate drink, not the thick hot chocolate you'd expect. Considering the €6 a cup, they should at least be dark and...

26/02/2026: Refined and high-quality cuisine in a lovely setting surrounded by mountains. Special mention goes to the attentive service and helpful advice from Max and his colleagues! It's become our unmissable daily lunchtime spot for the family!

08/04/2026: The dining room is very beautiful and welcoming. The food is good, with a great selection of high-quality products (cheeses and cured meats). The gnocchi al bleu and apple pie are top-notch. Bravo, Beppe!

29/05/2026: Great Aosta Valley classics revisited, with a constantly updated menu featuring seasonal ingredients. Extensive wine cellar. The owners are friendly and discreet, never intrusive. This is the third time we've been, always at different times. Excellent experience. Highly recommended. We'll be back.

27/05/2026: Excellent restaurant, we ate there twice in a row and everything was delicious. The owner is very pleasant and always gives a warm welcome with a smile. I highly recommend it.

23/10/2025: They also run a vacation rental. In my case, they canceled the reservation after a few months (probably because they preferred to rent it out to someone else...) and with ridiculous alternatives. Be careful!

06/03/2026: Rustic and warm, the staff is friendly and helpful. A wide selection of "scrocchiarello" pizzas are available. The ingredients are good, too.

04/01/2026: Dated restaurant, inattentive service, €2 cover charge for paper placemats, cutlery (if you find them at the table, otherwise you have to ask), and glasses upon request. Mediocre pizza, thin and crispy. High prices.

02/06/2026: Terrible! We went the other afternoon for a quick gelato. 3 euros for a tiny cup, they made us get a receipt and wait in the overly hot restaurant, when the flavors, already few, were either gone or at the bottom. Scraping the bottom, they put two tiny scoops of gelato in it, which tasted like mixes and syrups.

02/06/2026: Bad experience at this place. Slow and sloppy service, terrible quality of ingredients, and very poor quality of preparation. Everything is frozen and ready-made, and they just have to assemble it. They make you wait an hour and a half and charge you as if it were homemade! I won't be returning and I don't recommend it.

03/03/2026: A small hotel in the medieval village. The staff were very welcoming and kind. In my opinion, the property could use some TLC, better cleaning, and some renovations.

14/04/2026: Typical valley grocery store, I stopped by chance after a ski tour. The coconut dessert is excellent, as are the valley cheeses, two types of toma. A well-kept and welcoming place.

12/03/2026: Great place to relax. There's a small, sunny terrace out back. Everything is good, and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended! 👍

01/06/2026: The pizza was delicious and the service was excellent. I highly recommend the corner restaurant for families with children; they have a games area.

12/05/2026: They advertise a lot as "Open for lunch and dinner" and you arrive at 1pm and they are closed, even though it's not their closing day and Google says it's open...

08/03/2026: Excellent refuge for a lunch break during a Pila ski trip! Excellent location, right on the slopes and accessible on skis. We had lunch at this refuge. I had been here a while ago and loved it again. It has maintained its good food and a lovely atmosphere. We had two pizzas (very good), and the other dishes we passed were also inviting. The mozzarella on the pizza makes a positive difference! 2 pizzas, 2 soft drinks, and a water €33 Fair price!

06/03/2026: Very cute and welcoming place. Pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. Friendly staff and very fast service. We tried two starters: tagliatelle with venison ragù and risotto with cheese fondue and cavolo nero, both delicious. We rounded out the meal with an excellent tiramisu. Highly recommended.
