28/03/2026: There are restaurants that impress you, and then there are places that stay with you. Regiacorte is the latter. The setting is stunning: rooted in the ancient stone of the Sassi, refined without being precious. The food honours its territory — local ingredients treated with care and intention, every dish earning its place on the plate. What truly sets it apart is Paolo and his team. The hospitality was genuine, not performative. We arrived as guests and left feeling like family. So much so that we returned the following morning, not for dinner, but simply for a coffee and the view. That says everything. If you find yourself in Matera, Regiacorte isn't a suggestion. It's a requirement. Bravo, Paolo. Bravo.

24/03/2026: I had very high expectations for this restaurant, which unfortunately were completely disappointed. The LOCATION was simply top-notch (truly beautiful), but from the moment we arrived, the experience fell short: instead of being seated in the main room, we were seated in an extremely narrow secondary space, with the tables practically next to each other. This made any form of privacy impossible, forcing us to overhear the conversations at the next table. To make matters worse, we were positioned near a corner bar and a service staircase, with a constant coming and going of waiters and noise that further compromised our comfort. The service also wasn't in keeping with the type of establishment: the staff was constantly rushing around, talking loudly among themselves, and making a lot of noise. Furthermore, having to walk down the stairs right next to our table, waiters often rushed down them, almost jumping, only to suddenly find themselves standing in front of us. A decidedly unpleasant and unprofessional situation, which made the experience even more unpleasant. On a positive note, however, the waiter (probably the manager) was kind, helpful, and attentive, trying to manage the situation as best he could. Unfortunately, this aspect was just a side effect of an overall negative experience. The menu was also limited (only three choices per course), and, even worse, several dishes were unavailable. We were informed of the lack of some dishes only after we were seated, and even after we had ordered. The wait was unacceptable: over an hour and twenty minutes for a first course. When it finally arrived, the alternative (gnocchetti) was disappointing: too salty, poorly cooked, and completely lacking in character, especially considering it was supposed to be a seafood dish—the only other option offered, after all—but whatever. Overall, a deeply disappointing experience from every perspective, especially considering the price paid and the expectations raised. Based on my terrible experience, I would not recommend it.

27/09/2025: Unfortunately, I can't give less than one star. We ordered two pizzas and a sandwich. They arrived after almost three hours! They were inedible, to say the least! My companion's pizza, a tuna and onion pizza with fries, was a dry, unseasoned disc under an excessive amount of very cold fries that smelled of fried fish (obviously, changing the oil or using separate fryers would be too much work). My pizza, a diavola with mushrooms and fries, was truly inedible! The consistency was that of a dry toasted slice. The mozzarella, what little there was on the pizza, had the typical odor of a modified atmosphere, a mix between methane and bleach. It's the smell of mozzarella in a modified atmosphere at just over €5 a kilo. The mushrooms got lost along the way because there wasn't even a hint of them, the salami was of extremely poor quality, and the fries, in my case very few, were flavored with fish like my companion's. Sooner or later, you'll run into someone with a fish allergy. Ultimately, we waited three hours for a terrible meal. The sandwich was edible, although the bread was very dry and fell apart when bitten into. I don't usually write negative reviews because I think oversights can happen, but operating this way, with prices equal to those of other pizzerias that produce much better products, is completely unfair. Total €30.00. Never again!

07/12/2025: The butcher's shop stocks a variety of horse meat specialties, including ribs, diaphragm, chops, assorted meatballs, sausages, burgers, strips, carpaccio, and much more. The restaurant is located on the upper floor, offering on-site tastings thanks to its on-site cooker. Once you've chosen what you'd like to try in the butcher's shop below, the restaurant will prepare it in just a few minutes, cooking the meat to perfection. It's all accompanied by a variety of side dishes, available for self-service. Reservations recommended.

08/12/2025: Excellent place for a quick stop to eat, the service is very fast, the second courses in my opinion are a little expensive considering the context (8 euros) they do not excel in quantity, overall however it is worth stopping

06/12/2025: A strategic location for both arrivals and departures, it's also perfect for those looking to do a bit of shopping: the store is well-stocked with everything from souvenirs to cigarettes to groceries. The breakfast was top-notch, with exceptionally flavorful croissants—unfortunately, being diabetic, I only got to try them… but it was worth it 💯! The pizza, pizzette, and calzone counter, all homemade, is a real surprise: the deliciousness is not guaranteed, but here it surpassed even my own judgment (and that's not easy!). My only regret is not having tried the food at the cafeteria, but I'll definitely make up for it next time. The staff is kind, attentive, and helpful. Special mention goes to the bathrooms, which are super clean, and the ample free parking, which is truly convenient. A place you'll gladly return to, combining quality, courtesy, and authenticity. Kudos to all the staff; keep up the good work! Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

03/04/2026: I felt cheated. We just wanted to try some samples and we ordered a first course for three because we weren't very hungry and they charged us the price of three menus. It's a shame because the food is good anyway, but they don't want to rip off the customer.

15/07/2025: Personnel très sympathique. La vue est sublime et le cadre est très agréable. L’huile d’olive est excellente et avec le pain c’est très doux. Aucune faute, tout est parfait ! Ils ont tous les codes de la restauration. Nous vous recommandons spécialement la viande, qui à notre avis est une grande spécialité de cet endroit. Elle est tendre et très goûteuse. On a adoré ! Les pâtes ont un côté plus recherché et innovant. La carte des vins est surprenante, n’hésitez pas à en prendre. Bref, un très bon moment passé en famille. Nous reviendrons sans problème.

10/11/2025: Hidden gem outside the tourist part of Matera. Great pizza, very friendly staff, typical familly owned business place we love to go. They dont speak English but the menu is in English so no problem. Dont expect a francy restaurant but if you want good pizza and nice place to spend the evening this is it. Price of a normal pizza is 9 Euro and 18 for the big one. We also received free desert and a local drink. We will be back on our next Matera trip
