03/07/2025: Spent 2 nights in June 2025. Charming hotel in a great waterfront location. Walking distance to the heart of Ortigia. Short ride to other Siracusa sights. Beautiful layout. Well maintained and clean. Rooms were comfortable and had excellent amenities. Restaurant was excellent. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

26/06/2025: Issues: Booking, Customer Service I am disappointed to submit this review prior to arriving at the hotel; however, I believe it benefits fellow travelers and families to report our negative experience with Aligilá Ortigia Charme Hotel (AOCH) promptly so that it may help other travelers make decisions.. Our bad experience is related to customer service and the booking process/policies of this hotel. As the name implies, one would expect a certain “charm” from this hotel which is not at all what we received when simply asking to speak to the manager. Without even setting foot in this hotel, first impressions based on our experience with our first contact at this hotel, an employee named Martina, was by no means the customer service expected of a 5- nor 4-star hotel, let alone an even lower level motel. Last week, my wife booked a hotel room through Expedia at AOCH to meet our daughter, who is finishing her study abroad this summer, for a short trip at the end of her studies. The booking was initially made almost a month in advance for just the two of them as we initially had time constraints with several of our family members. As a busy orthopedic surgeon and with a busy family including two kids in college and two kids in high school, my wife and I often juggle plans and schedules to try to plan special trips for us all to travel together. The airline tickets for my wife and daughter were made the week before and I then began the process of attempting to adjust the rest of our schedules to consider the possibility for us all to go. Meanwhile, my wife began the process of searching for places to stay. As with many busy travelers and families, life and decisions often change. Shortly after booking the hotel, our plans changed and we were able to confirm adjustment of our schedules allowing us all to travel and enjoy as a family Sicily and specifically, Ortigia at the recommendation of our daughter who spent time there during her studies. Within hours of booking the hotel, my wife contacted Expedia to notify our change of plans and ask for assistance in requesting a cancellation. We were informed it could take a few days to find out. I called the hotel the same day as the booking and spoke to a night employee (time change). The night employee told me the manager was not available and that we have to go through Expedia to see if we can obtain a cancellation. We received notice from Expedia four days later that “after multiple tries, we weren’t able to obtain approval from AOCH.” Expedia later tried again and Sunday evening we received notification from them that the hotel again denied request for cancellation/refund of the booking since the original booking was non-refundable. I contacted the hotel this Monday to hopefully discuss the situation with a manager and have an opportunity to explain our situation and perhaps obtain an exception/approval for cancellation/refund which is ultimately at the discretion of the hotel. Instead, as mentioned above, I was met on the phone by a front desk person who not only denied us an opportunity to find an reasonable alternative, but also would not allow me to speak to a manager. To deny a customer the opportunity to even discuss a situation with management is very unprofessional and uncompromising. I considered sending this review to the hotel before submitting it to the internet; however, it was made clear to me by the front desk staff that the manager is off limits to help make accommodations/solve problems for their customers and may not even be aware of the apathetic practices of the hotel staff. In summary, based on this first impression, I would recommend that travelers be very wary and cautious when considering to book a reservation at this hotel. Although the original booking was non-refundable, we contacted this hotel within hours of making the reservations. If this merciless approach is a reflection of their customer service, I am doubtful that this hotel will get any more than my current “zero-star” rating after our stay.

23/06/2025: I found myself in this restaurant intrigued by the well-kept place and the vast display of wines (with prices a little higher than normal). We had an octopus salad, a swordfish caponata and a mixed fried fish. The octopus was well cooked, the caponata didn't thrill me, the fried fish tasted like oil that had already been reused more times than normal with non-fresh mixed fish! We left it. I give one star for two reasons, the first because, I saw the owner who had to make spritz take the ice with his hands after touching something else.. and then if you say that there is something wrong with a dish or you redo it or change it! Helpful staff. But I won't go back.

19/06/2025: Excellent dinner in one of the most typical alleys of old Syracuse. Good service, excellent traditional local dishes and friendly guys coordinating the service. We had some typical antipasti, all very good (especially the eggplant parmigiana) and two first courses. Excellent value for money.

25/05/2025: "Ancora" una volta siamo stati benissimo, dal ricco antipasto in 7 portate alle linguine alle vongole al fritto misto. Prezzi onesti e grande cortesia. I nipoti proseguono la tradizione di grande ospitalità.

18/05/2025: I called for lunch for 4 seats including two children, the lady asked me inside or outside and I answered the same not knowing that inside it was very small having a stroller, apart from this as soon as we arrived more than one waiter made us sit outside because they were not busy, after which I think it was the owner and she told us no outside there are no seats I will put you inside and from the faces of the boys we understood that it was not true we went in and since he was small I repeated to her if something could be done and put a third boy outside she was about to check outside she immediately stopped him and said no outside. Okay we were sitting inside and I asked for the two seats for the children already asked on the phone and she said no I don't like these seats and referring to the older child she said you sit in the chair since you are big, after this we said goodbye. Nothing to say to the boys but she was very very rude!!!!!!!

30/06/2025: I give it a 5 because the pizza was really good!!! with few edges and crunchy and very full of toppings. The prices are reasonable and the service is fast. One of the best pizzas in Sicily. Highly recommended

01/06/2025: If you go early and the Chef has some time to spare, he may offer to serve you a Sicilian specialty dish (not on the menu). Just do it, you will not be disappointed! The best pizza we had in Sicily and not to forget the very friendly service. Highly recommended!

10/06/2025: A wonderful place of peace and tranquility, in the middle of nature. The guide at the ecomuseum was very good and explained the history and the particularity of the place very well

21/06/2025: A place that allows you to travel through time and find yourself in the 80s, with lots of cream on the menu, at the highway exit for Augusta, in a post-apocalyptic industrial atmosphere with a petrol station attached, the kind where in video games you find medipacks and ammunition. Quick welcome, chair with mosquito net, ice cold beer, chips and perfect pizzas, all in about 30 minutes. We finish with a half-liter glass of amaro. Very fair price, plus an extra gift from the friendly owner. I will return, certain to find everything as it is. I give five stars because I can't give millions.

13/06/2025: An inconspicuous place with a nice atmosphere. We ended up there somewhat by accident on our way to the airport in Catania. We ate delicious pasta. We were served by a very nice gentleman who didn't speak English but we managed to communicate without any problems despite not knowing Italian. I recommend the carbonara and penne alla norma.

11/05/2025: Il posto e’ molto bello e raffinato, i menu’ sono stati spettacolari con portate a base di carciofi e primi e secondi molto particolari. Nonostante io non sia un gran forchetta ho adorato tutti i piatti! Ricette mah banali e anche il menù della degustazione dei vini ottima! Camerieri cortesi, professionali e con grande capacità di presentare le varie portate. Un posto scelto per caso ma che mi ha colpito tantissimo! Spero di tornarci presto. Assolutamente consigliato

You can taste the quality and attention to detail in every bite. The espresso at the end was the perfect finishing touch. Great service, relaxed atmosphere – a true highlight of our Italian vacation!

10/04/2025: Alors qu’on s’entende bien, ce n’est pas du restaurant gastronomique mais pour la promesse et le prix ça les vaut ces 5* Accueil chaleureux. Les boulettes d’effiloché de porc très bonnes. Les pâtes justes somptueuses… Une splendeur pour un café restaurant qui ne paie pas de mine. Bravissimo !!!
