21/09/2025: Let's start with the name: a fun and perfect idea (for non-Tuscans: chickpea cake appears bright yellow, but it's an extremely humble and popular food, unlike caviar) that adds something positive to the whole thing. The 5e5 was perfect: creamy in the center, slightly crunchy on top and at the edges, delicious, in short. The two girls serving were friendly and very kind. I've marked this place down and will be back.

18/10/2025: Food is great. Prices are too. It's at a perfect location, right next to an overlook of Florence. Only downside is being right next to a road with noisy bikes and cars.

04/11/2025: Travelling Italy for our honeymoon. Came here for dinner as it was close to our Airbnb and from the get go, the experience was amazing! The server Andrea gave us suggestions that we appreciated. We initially ordered the prosciutto and melon, and he advised that the melon wasn’t in season so we got the prosciutto and Buffalo mozzarella with toasted bread instead. We ordered the ribeye with green peppercorn and potato, as well as the macaroni pasta with truffle and sausage. Prosecco for drinks and semifreddo for dessert. Loved the vibes and Italian music, staff are so friendly and warm. Memorable experience 🫶🏻

08/11/2025: A wonderful experience! The dishes were excellent, with a special mention for the calamari and the tuna (in its pistachio and tea coating). The service was warm and welcoming. The restaurant was recommended to us by the Hotel San Marco and, without a doubt, it's an excellent choice, just a few minutes from the walls of Lucca.

Super friendly owners, divine food 😋😋 The potato tortelli with lampredotto sauce were excellent, as was the sweet schiacciata with cream that was calling to me from the display case 😋😋 Too bad I couldn't wash it all down with a good wine because I had to get back on the road 🚘

A unique experience on Halloween night, made even more special by the owners, incredibly kind and welcoming people who make you feel right at home. Highly recommended!

03/11/2025: I celebrated my birthday in this truly lovely place… The staff was very knowledgeable and ready to answer any questions… The food was delicious, and the cake was simply gorgeous. P.S. Elena had reserved a table for us on the terrace, and even though we were quite a large table, we still managed to chat very well without the "noise" that usually occurs in restaurants. Would I recommend it? Absolutely!

Right across from the historic Mercato delle Vettovaglie, in fact, is one of the temples of Livorno's culinary tradition: "Da Gagarin," a historic city cake shop founded way back in 1973 by Salvatore Chiappa, an enterprising Garfagnana who moved to the city of the Four Moors in the late 1950s and who is said to have resembled the famous Soviet cosmonaut. Continued by his heirs, today the legendary shop lovingly preserves the family's culinary tradition, especially the recipe for the dish that made it immortal: chickpea cake (in other parts of Tuscany, better known as "cecina" or "farinata"—synonyms, here, definitely discouraged for parochial reasons!). Don't be put off by the queue outside: the friendly and knowledgeable staff will serve it quickly, and the wait will be worth it! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, the chickpea cake, "Da Gagarin," is traditionally baked in a wood-fired oven and served in a round, light-colored bun, which enhances its flavor and makes it suitable for on-the-go street food. The search for unique flavors, paired and layered, is an absolute pleasure here. The place is beautiful and the staff is perfect. Everything is truly perfect.

The friendly and welcoming staff will bring your order beforehand, accompanied by delicious bread and excellent olive oil produced on the island. The prices are in line with the quality of the dishes and the excellent wine.
