05/07/2025: A birthday, an experience. I had read an article about this restaurant and, intrigued, I decided to book for my birthday dinner. I call it an experience because the food was truly unique and refined. A great combination of flavors and quality. An explosion of joy for my taste buds. I'll be back!

Elegance and promises, but the journey to the Star is still long Olio, located in Origgio and mentioned in the prestigious Michelin guide, offers a gastronomic experience that initially conquers for its aesthetic and sensorial impact, but is not free from some flaws that still limit its leap towards the deserved Star. The location is undoubtedly a strong point: elegant, well-kept, large and refined in the details, with a wise choice of high-quality materials. The table linen, extremely soft and pleasant to the touch, and the seats, comfortable and well-chosen, further enrich the general comfort. The environment amazes with suggestive scenography, illuminated by sophisticated light effects and embellished with authentic vintage cars that give the place a unique charm. The only shame is the slightly insufficient lighting in the area adjacent to the terrace, a detail that needs to be improved to fully enhance the atmosphere. The chef's culinary proposal certainly reveals talent and balance, wisely blending simple and quality ingredients. The smoked scallop appetizer is remarkable and memorable, masterfully accompanied by agretti and a light blown hollandaise sauce. The spring acqua cotta is also surprising for its freshness and brilliance, although the egg protagonist deserved a touch more attention in cooking. Among the first courses, the rabbit-filled buttons paired with lobster stand out: an intriguing combination, successful in flavor, even if the lobster would have benefited from a slightly shorter cooking time. The mezzeri rigatoni with sea urchin and scampi carbonara are decidedly disappointing: served lukewarm and with the flavor overwhelmingly dominated by the egg, the dish leaves the seafood ingredients totally unexpressed. Among the second courses, the fritto misto stands out positively, cooked to perfection and without any trace of grease, enhanced by the excellent freshness of the fish and the red mullet, the absolute protagonist. The remoulade sauce proposed as an accompaniment, however, leaves one speechless: yogurt and cucumber fail to harmonize with the dish. The lamb is instead a true triumph of intensity, splendidly accompanied by a ristretto intenso and morels, an impeccable pairing. A note of merit for the waiting staff, attentive and kind, in particular for the young maître, competent and attentive. However, a flaw emerges: an excess of apprenticeship staff, who despite showing education and brilliance, inevitably appear inexperienced and hesitant. A more balanced choice in the staff mix would certainly be preferable. Another sore point is the absence of a dedicated sommelier, essential in an ambitious restaurant. A good sommelier guides you in choosing the wine and can expertly describe the wine chosen by the customer. Here that figure is missing. Furthermore, returning to the generic staff, too often the glass remains empty, leaving one to perceive a lack of sufficient waiters to best manage the large number of tables. Ultimately, Olio a Origgio is a restaurant that certainly deserves a Michelin star, but it still lacks that pinch of audacity, originality and attention to detail that could allow it to take the decisive step towards winning the much-coveted star.

The view is absolutely spectacular, overlooking the beautiful city of Bergamo. Nearby, there is also a charming castle that you can visit, adding to the magic of the location. The worst thing was the question whether both children who were going with their mother would go to the bathroom. I understand the influx of tourists, but here it borders on rudeness

08/06/2025: Villa d' Este offered a remarkable experience throughout. The total ambiance of the hotel and the location - as one would imagine - were stunning. From the overall service, to the amenities, to the opportunities to savor a variety of local cultural experiences -- including memorable moments on Lake Como, I could not imagine a better location to savor the vastness of what this beautiful region has to offer. I very much appreciated the variety of plant-based specialties at the eateries and connections with fellow guests and locals, all while absorbing the exquisite views. Indeed, worthy of multiple revisits. Thank you to the professional team that strove to exceed standards of satisfaction.

07/06/2025: The Michelin Guide recommends visiting Villa d'Este in Cernobbio, but they don't let you in, so it's a big disappointment! Uninteresting!!!

04/07/2025: Small pizzeria. On a Friday evening, all the tables were full. I was lucky and was sandwiched between two reservations. The pizza sensational was great. Prices were very reasonable.

23/05/2025: I returned to this restaurant and found inconsistency in the goodness of the dishes, sometimes a bit pretentiously original and not convincing (the snails and tortelli were excellent, the meats were decent, the paccheri were not enough and the focaccia was excellent but burnt). The desserts were good. Furthermore, there is no wine list available and, therefore, on the limited choice of bottles offered, you do not have the possibility of evaluating the label and the cost in advance, which was not irrelevant...... I find it to be, poorly transparent!

29/05/2025: Non si arrabbino cuochi e camerieri di questo bel ristorante di pesce se non riusciamo a scriverne bene come avremmo sperato di poter fare. Il luogo è accogliente, il servizio è impeccabile, la cantina è favolosa e bisogna anche sottolineare che il pesce è freschissimo, ma... L'esperienza complessiva (o almeno per quanto ci riguarda personalmente avendo ordinato solo piatti provenienti dalla cucina) è stata piuttosto deludente. Lo spaghetto con le vongole alla brace speravamo avesse sentori di affumicato e di brace. Ma di vongole ce ne erano così poche che probabilmente quel sentore si è disperso tra la cucina e il tavolo. Comunque apprezzabile la cottura dello spaghetto. La ceviche di ricciola giapponese con mais e patate dolci non è una ceviche. Meglio chiamarla "dadolata". L'ostrica alla milanese, (bravi, buona idea) ha una dose eccessiva di panatura e condimento che la rendono piuttosto dozzinale al nostro palato di vecchi adepti di Jules Alciatore e arriva al tavolo talmente incandescente che, nell'attesa di poterla mangiare, la poverina cuoce eccessivamente perdendo con la sua umidità anche parte del suo sapore. In bocca 9 parti di pane bruciacchiato e 1 parte di ostrica rinsecolita. Confessiamo che per 16€ ci saremmo pure aspettati nel piatto un paio di ostriche invece che una sola. Per finire. Il delicato sapore del filetto di sogliola al vapore viene completamente annichilito da una salsa "fricassea" che, con aggiunta di asparagi, bietole e gel di borragine, fanno di questo piatto il peggiore della classifica. Forse la sogliola non è il pesce più indicato per questa ambiziosa ricetta. Diciamocelo senza indugi! Per il resto intorno al nostro tavolo gli altri ospiti mugulavano soddisfatti di piacere di fronte ad invitanti plateaux royal e imperial pieni di cruditè non introvabili, ma sicuramente sopraffine.
