This family-run restaurant has been synonymous with hospitality, warmth, and flavor for over sixty years! In an era where food is more about representation than taste, here we find dishes of the highest quality, without too many iconic frills, but with very interesting combinations. The menu description, a nursery rhyme passed down from father to son, from Pino to Claudio, is pure poetry: "Mushroom and chestnut soup, Schiaffone with artichokes, Tortelli with meat sauce, Polenta with mushrooms, Chestnut tagliatelle... Peposo, Tripe, Rabbit, Suckling pig with small pears." Congratulations! I would love to have a restaurant like yours a few kilometers from my home...

The food, the wine pairings, the ambiance, and the friendly and competent service were all fantastic. We're already looking forward to celebrating our golden wedding anniversary there in 25 years...

09/11/2025: During our trip, we decided to stop in San Gimignano — one of our favorite Italian towns. We parked in a different area than usual, and during our walk, we discovered San Martino 26, a charming restaurant that proudly holds a Michelin distinction. We decided to give it a try. Our first surprise came when we learned that each guest must order at least two main courses. As vegetarians, this wasn’t the easiest requirement for us, but the waiter was exceptionally helpful and explained all the options with great care. The second pleasant surprise came when the meal began: we were served a selection of five different starters, a bread course, the two mains we had ordered, and even dessert — all beautifully presented. Everything was delicious, and the service was impeccable. The chef personally came to our table to make sure we were happy with our meal, which was a lovely touch. I also ordered a glass of white wine, which paired perfectly with the dishes. The place, the food, and the service are all an easy 10 out of 10. San Martino 26 is highly recommended for anyone who appreciates quality cuisine and authentic Tuscan hospitality.

01/12/2025: The dishes are excellent, balanced and flavorful, fully respecting Tuscan tradition, from "simple" crostini to more elaborate dishes. The average rating of 4.7 seems low; it deserves at least 4.8, if not higher. The service is extremely courteous, old-fashioned, with special attention to children. The wine selection is varied and excellent, although, as is to be expected, it focuses on the main local product, Brunello. I will gladly return to Re di Macchia.

09/11/2025: For us, this restaurant was a miss. We chose this restaurant because of its inclusion in the Michelin guide but it failed to meet that standard. Our evening started awry when we were asked to choose our table. After several minutes, they told us we needed to move to a less desirable table. We were then ignored for 10+ minutes while they attended to patrons who had arrived after us. For the remainder of the evening we received less than attentive service in contrast to other patrons. Food wise, it was ok but not great. Because I am gluten free, I asked about the details of the tasting menu. Unlike most restaurants, they would not tell me what was on it. Spoiler alert- it’s all items from the regular menu. Twice, they served me items that contained gluten. Several of our dishes were lukewarm. I asked to modify my paired wines to be red and they acted like it was a huge inconvenience. Finally, when making the reservation we indicated that I am gluten free and that it was my birthday. The restaurant made little effort for either. Instead of gluten free bread, I was given a package of grocery store crackers. For my birthday, they gave me a small jelly candy with a candle. No staff acknowledged the celebration. This is not the level of food or service that one would expect for a restaurant that holds itself out as a Michelin fine dining establishment.

13/11/2025: MAGRIA SOURCE We spent two days in Amiata and had both lunch and dinner at this restaurant, also known as Trattoria di Mezza Montagna. It was a perfect choice in every sense: quality, price, and above all, courtesy. We will definitely return. Massimo

12/11/2025: This restaurant is located near Abadia S. Salvatore (about 2 km away) in the province of Siena. It appears to be family-run. I ordered a main course and a side dish, and I also sampled a friend's first course. Everything was delicious. Highly recommended.

08/12/2025: A truly pleasant experience, the place is very welcoming and truly charming; the only flaw is the acoustics, which aren't exactly optimal. The staff is extremely friendly. The dishes are excellent, especially the first courses (the tagliatelle verdi are definitely worth mentioning, truly exquisite and delicate), but the second courses are also truly excellent. I highly recommend them, especially for their location, an exceptional village in the Val d'Orcia that's definitely worth a visit: Monticchiello.
