28/07/2025: TRIP TO DIANO D'ALBA July 27, 2025 A RELAXING DAY IN DIANO D'ALBA On the peak of Diano d'Alba After 67 years, the newlyweds decided to commemorate their first meeting by going to the same restaurant where they first met. After a few words with the restaurant owner about the food, Mrs. Nadia pointed out the photo on the wall of "Batista," the man who ran the restaurant 57 years ago. Batista never dreamed he'd end up on this page. Who knows? When he's resurrected, he might recognize himself in this photo and reflect. REVIEW OF LOCANDA D'BATISTA Three Alba-style meats, three tajarin pasta with 30 egg yolks, three veal rings, a side dish, three desserts, coffee and grappa, Dolcetto di Diano wine, a fair bill of 40 per person. At Locanda D'Batista, the dining room is poorly ventilated and dimly lit, but it makes up for it by inspiring your palate. The food is well presented, plentiful, and very tasty. Before leaving, you invariably tell Mrs. Nadia, "We'll be back." Mrs. Nadia, the owner and manager of the restaurant for 27 years, let us know that she doesn't like reviews because she wants them all to be positive. She explained why she doesn't like them, saying that over time, people don't always have great days. Sometimes unexpected things happen, or they're very tired, and a bad day can happen, and the review doesn't evaluate the weather, but the specific incident. She confidentially told us that once, the pan on the stove caught fire, and the oil from the kitchen wafted into the dining room, raising concerns among the waiting customers. From its summit, you can enjoy a 360-degree view, from the verdant valleys below, dotted with houses, including Alba, to the diadem of the Piedmont Alps, nestled in the distance behind the hills and the plain stretching from Bra to Saluzzo. A place to escape your worries, with your eyes so occupied with seeing everything, near and far, that your brain is busy registering only positive thoughts, banishing the negative ones. If you then come down from the peak and sit at the table of the D'Batista Inn, you can savor the dishes prepared with the ancient art secrets that Nadia possesses, and they will make you feel good for the rest of the day. 07/09/2025: Total disappointment. Initially, three people waited to find our reservation. After an hour of waiting and several reminders, the manager informed us that our order hadn't arrived in the kitchen (he had picked it up). The dishes arrived cold. Following our complaints, he told other tables that we could go back to where we came from. Other diners also received dishes they hadn't ordered, which they were happy to accept. Total disorganization. Highly discouraged; professionalism isn't his strong point.

16/08/2025: Located in the historic center but to the northwest, in a less busy area than Piazza Conte Rosso but with just as much character - and more accessible. Menu exclusively in Italian. Damn, our phones were dead and our knowledge of culinary Italian was limited. Since we couldn't choose, we opted for the 4-course tasting menu, at the reasonable price of 37 euros, which offered a sampling of the house dishes. And we ate the entire restaurant! And served by the ladle rather than the teaspoon! It's hard to remember a particular dish, but every piece on this (complete?) compilation was a hit! A highly recommended menu, provided you drastically monitor your diet in the previous twelve hours to be able to fully indulge. So, unfortunately, no clichés to immortalize the moment. Served under a small, very pleasant arbor by a kind young woman with charming hesitations who seemed amazed by our substantial tip.

31/08/2025: A great find near Bene Vagienna, stumbled upon by chance after a visit to a flea market. Authentic, genuine cuisine that you'll remember fondly, excellent service, and fair prices. Attention to detail, like the cover charge with very good bread and breadsticks (which isn't the case, however), customer service without stress and persistence in offering. Pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. Congratulations

02/09/2025: The place itself is very nice. The service leaves you waiting for the best. Now onto the food. I had the Piedmontese antipasto mix recommended by the place. The raw meat was good, the anchovies were good, the vitello tonato was good, the meat was cooked perfectly but the sauce wasn't. It tasted like bean water mayonnaise, which I didn't like. Then I had the rabbit. It was overcooked, it seemed like it had been chewed and then baked. Even though the flavor was good, the consistency wasn't. The meringue dessert was good (a bit old meringue). I'd say I might give it another chance, but even today for lunch, I wouldn't know. I expected better since it was recommended.

17/08/2025: In the heart of the Langhe, known as a wine and food treasure, lies Neive, less known than others like Alba, Asti, or La Morra, but nevertheless well worth a visit to this charming town. If you do, a great choice is Locanda Borgo Vecchio, where you can savor typical Piedmontese dishes and also some other original options, with a limited menu but with plenty of options. In fact, there's always a dish off the menu that's seasonal and is usually highly recommended. In my case, it was mushrooms and the tagliatelle with black truffle. It's advisable to leave room for traditional desserts with a little something extra, like the white chocolate mousse with red berries. Also worth noting is that they produce wine and grappa, perfect, especially in summer, to be enjoyed on their magnificent terrace, from which you can see the area's vineyards. A highly recommended place

16/08/2025: We visited this restaurant and had an overall very positive experience: the cuisine is meticulous, the dishes are well-prepared, and the bill was absolutely reasonable. The atmosphere is also pleasant and contributes to a pleasant evening. My only complaint concerns the reservation management: when I called, I specifically requested a table with a panoramic view, specifically one by the window, because we were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. I was assured that all the tables had a beautiful view, so I trusted them. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the tables with a view were already taken, and we were assigned a table further away, from which we couldn't enjoy the sunset, which would have been truly special on such an occasion. I reported this when I received the bill, but was told that my request hadn't been noted. A shame, because with a little more attention to this detail, the evening would have been perfect. Despite this, it's still a restaurant I recommend for the quality of the food, the location, and the good value.

26/08/2025: Truly excellent Neapolitan pizzeria. Excellent quality ingredients, well-leavened dough worthy of the "Neapolitan" title. The crust is beautifully high and soft, with plenty of room for toppings, and the center is thin and soft, like a sheet, yet firm, with excellent gluten development. Very helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended for a wonderful evening.

12/08/2025: Perfect stay! There were eight of us, and we had a wonderful time from the very first moment. The rooms were spotless, all air-conditioned, tastefully furnished, and had extremely comfortable beds. The bathrooms were immaculate, with fresh, quality linens. Breakfast was a real treat: plentiful, varied, and with excellent quality products. The staff was extremely kind and always available, ready to meet our every need with a smile. The location is impeccable, perfect for easily getting around and visiting the area. No negatives: a truly worthwhile place to stay. Highly recommended!

19/07/2025: I was recommended to eat here by Ms. Marisa, the owner of the B&B I stayed at. The location was very easy to find and we were greeted by a gentleman whose name I am sorry I don't know. He spoke very good English and the dishes he recommended to us were delicious and the prices were very reasonable.
