23/03/2026: I had researched where to have my first lunch in Catania. Lovely swordfish and shrimp pasta washed down with half bottle of white wine. They gave me a free chocolate brownie pud after. Such hospitality. Busy and fresh seafood. Off the beaten track. Highly recommend

Dinner was a memorable culinary experience, but what struck me most was the attention to service. The wait staff was highly qualified and attentive to every detail.

01/12/2025: We stayed at this property last weekend. I'll start with what I liked. The Shalai is a finely renovated late 19th-century building, elegant and welcoming. The strong points are definitely the restaurant and the kindness of the staff. It also has a spa, which, although small, is still usable and enjoyable. The downside, at least in our experience, was the rooms. We had a superior double room: nice, but not excellent value for money. Although it was reasonably spacious, the bathroom was not up to par with the rest of the property, especially since the shower curtain was dated and unhygienic, unlike even one-star hotels these days. Here's a tip for the property: the property is amazing, the staff is a plus, the spa is delightful, and the restaurant is top-notch, but please, remove those curtains.

25/01/2026: A disappointing Saturday evening. Let's start by saying that finding an illegal parking attendant outside wasn't pleasant at all. The place is very welcoming, but the pizza left much to be desired: I had a "tonnata," or tuna and onion. The quality of the dough (very little leavened, making it heavy right away) and the ingredients (especially the tuna) were average to poor. Overall, a negative experience.

18/02/2026: Our daughter lives in Trecastagni so we visit often and frequently grab pizza and arancini from here. The wait can be a little long sometimes but that's really a testament to how good the food is.

15/03/2026: On Saturday night, the place was already packed, and we had a reservation for 8:30 PM: a situation that wasn't exactly easy to manage. But Luana was simply fantastic. Despite the chaos, she managed to get us inside and made the short wait even more pleasant by offering us delicious salted caramels. A simple gesture, but truly appreciated. The place was packed the entire evening, with people constantly coming and going and the staff constantly running back and forth. Amidst all this, Luana was incredible: always present, helpful, and smiling, with impeccable management. We were satisfied with the food: the pizza is more like a focaccia, with an excellent timilia dough, while the sandwiches were tasty, rich, and with truly excellent meat. The beer selection was also good, and the Margarita was superb. To finish, we had a tiramisu and a chocolate salami. The mascarpone cream was truly delicious; The ladyfingers, soaked at the time, were slightly dry. Overall, it was a very pleasant evening, made even better by Luana's professionalism and kindness, which truly made the difference.

13/03/2026: The quality and freshness of the food there is always top-notch. I can only find the pasta with mauro seaweed and limpets here, and it's exceptional and unique. Not to mention the raw fish and everything else. Whenever I'm in the area, I never miss dinner here.

15/03/2026: I visited this restaurant for the first time and had a great time. The atmosphere was clean and well-maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. The French veal burger and the bouef au bourgognon were delicious. Service was quick, and the dishes were well-presented. Prices were average. Overall, I'll definitely return to try other dishes. One last thing that was very important to me was that there was no background noise despite the restaurant being full. The tables were well-spaced and there was no background music, so we could chat peacefully at the table without any difficulty. If you plan to go on a Saturday, I recommend booking a few days in advance. They only book the first 8:00 PM slot, and after that, it's on a first-come, first-served basis.

14/03/2026: Meat, pizzas, sandwiches. Nothing typically Catanian or Sicilian. Sure, something a little out of the ordinary is fine; but it felt more like a pub/steakhouse than a Catanian restaurant. Pleasant, youthful atmosphere; good service; medium-high prices.

22/03/2026: Amazing experience at Fisharia in Catania! 🔥 Everything was delicious, but the raw fish… something spectacular 🤤 The quality was top notch, the fish was incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared. I went with my dog ​​Chopper 🐶 and we had a wonderful time, thanks in part to the super relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The area is very lively, with live music and other venues nearby, but Fisharia really stands out for the quality and attention to detail of the dishes. And the crazy thing? The prices are way below what they should be for what they offer 👏 I'll definitely be back, highly recommended! 💙

We chose the chef's "carrellata pazza": a single, large appetizer featuring 15 different preparations, both cooked and raw, surprising and generous. Peppered mussels, oysters, marinated shrimp, sweet and sour anchovies, raw tuna, seafood caponata... every dish was flavorful and fresh, with generous portions. Even the fried fish and baked potatoes, ordered separately, were perfect. Despite the restaurant being packed, the service was quick and impeccable. The food was extraordinary at more than fair prices: we'll definitely be back to try the first courses, which looked irresistible. An experience not to be missed!
