29/09/2025: We had a great time; we had the mushroom risotto and the pulverun fillet, prepared at the table in a pan with spiced butter. The wine was very good, with a selection of local wines. The staff was kind and helpful. Well done.

30/10/2025: Disappointed. The cheese pizzas were bland and difficult to cut. I ordered a salmon pizza, and the salmon on it wasn't fresh; it had a strong taste. I had an allergic reaction the following night! Very expensive for the pizzas. We had tiramisu for dessert, and it wasn't homemade at all. It was also bland. The tables are very close together. Disappointed, I won't be back.

17/09/2025: The food was delicious. It was wonderfully fresh and the flavors were truly wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We had appetizers because we're not big eaters, so we were able to try the tiramisu. The service was very friendly and helpful, and kind to our daughter.

03/10/2025: The restaurant is located a bit above the touristy restaurants, which are mostly located by the water. However, it's worth going a bit higher behind the church. In summer, you can sit in the lovely inner garden. It was already too cold for us to eat outside. A clear menu with regional specialties. The pasta with porcini mushrooms is SUPER DELICIOUS for early autumn. Don't miss the focaccia. It doesn't get any better! The chestnut cream is also highly recommended for dessert. A wonderful taste experience. Friendly and good service. An insider tip!

03/10/2025: Excellent restaurant in the middle of old Cannobio. Only the Grignolino left something to be desired despite its beautiful appearance.

24/08/2025: Tried it today for lunch. The welcome was excellent. The mixed antipasti were delicious and varied, something for everyone (pickles, cold cuts, omelette, etc.). The mushroom risotto was superb, prepared with a real broth and you could taste it; it was perfectly cooked. The polenta was tender, with braised beef. The desserts were excellent (not mass-produced). Excellent value for money.

31/07/2025: Very good pizza, very kind and helpful staff; I recommend the extra large pizza if you're really hungry; the seafood appetizer is also good. The only downside is that the place is a bit dark, but that's just my personal opinion.

22/09/2025: Adaptability is good, but there's a limit to everything... this place is extremely dirty and doesn't meet basic hygiene standards. We spent a night here with dinner and breakfast, and starting with the shared bathroom, let's just say it's small, but above all, extremely dirty, with no window or ventilation system, and therefore perpetually flooded and full of condensation (instead of drying it, they put a sign outside saying "Be careful"). Open toilet paper rolls left around the bathroom, half-wet, and touched by everyone. To dry your hands, not just disposable paper, but a dirty towel that EVERYONE uses. Here, I repeat, it's not adaptability, but a lack of knowledge of BASIC hygiene and sanitary standards. The room has bunk beds that look like they're about to fall over at any moment, with zero stability, cold, and not even a small trash can around. You couldn't lock it from the outside, let alone the inside. But let's get to breakfast and dinner. From the space outside, you can see the kitchen. The cook was smoking a cigarette and stirring the dishes while preparing the food. The dinner was very low-quality; we were served ribs that were very fatty and the meat wouldn't fall off the bone. The potato and leek soup was a little water with two diced potatoes and two leeks, but it was tasteless. The breakfast was embarrassing for the place. We're in the mountains, so it doesn't take much to buy or make some typical products. Instead, it was all from the discount store: low-quality store-bought juices, one-flavor jellies, packaged brioches like snacks, even milk and butter. Nothing typical or packaged, oh no, sorry... The cakes from the night before (decent). At night, there was a terrible chaos of people literally running down the stairs (I think it was the staff who slept there, without even the slightest forethought to keep quiet). All for €65 per person. If you provide a service like that, €45 is already a lot... the disregard for the customer is palpable, and it would take very little to enhance this place, especially cleaning it! I repeat, adaptability is one thing, but not even being able to use a bathroom is another.

21/08/2025: I don't recommend this restaurant. Prices are high for the low quality. I found a dead spider on the bread, which was also served dry, and the dessert seemed like it was from the frozen food section of the supermarket, priced at €6.

21/09/2025: The restaurant is located along the road leading to Macugnaga. The place is a bit dated but clean. The waiter is very kind and cheerful, while the owner is rather cold. The food is good, although the dish of the day (polenta with lamb stew) is overpriced in my opinion!! The prices for other dishes and the cover charge are fair. Parking is convenient.

28/09/2025: The restaurant is located on the road that connects the train station to the village of Re in Val Vigezzo. We had a lovely lunch on a rainy day. The staff were friendly, and the polenta with mushrooms was excellent.

16/10/2025: We were able to enjoy the view of the lake during our stay. The pizza we ordered wasn't as tasty as we'd hoped... canned mushrooms (!) and the dough? So-so. Service: There was service, but it was somewhat lackluster and disinterested. A feast for the eyes is also part of the experience. I wouldn't go there again.

16/10/2025: The location right on the lake is impressive. The pizza taste was less impressive. Mediocre at best. While well-topped, it was extremely bland, which is a shame. And Jan is right, canned mushrooms are a no-go.

05/09/2025: A wonderful place in the heart of the picturesque monastery complex. The food is very good, and the prices are reasonable. However, the unfriendliness of the staff, even when speaking Italian, is a real imposition.

03/09/2025: We had a reservation at this restaurant yesterday at 9 pm. We had confirmation by mail. When we arrived by car at 9pm15, the restaurant wa CLOSED. It was dark, nobody was there. Nobody at Phone. On Google the restaurant was still indicated "open until 10.30 pm". They did not call us to advise us, of course. We had NEVER seen that with a restaurant. Please never go there. When you treat clients tlike that, you just deserve to be CLOSED for ever.

25/06/2025: Ho avuto il piacere di pranzare e cenare per due giorni presso il ristorante Il Rifugio, scelto e selezionato dalla mia azienda per un soggiorno di lavoro. Fin dal primo momento, il locale ha trasmesso una sensazione di cura e accoglienza: ordine e pulizia impeccabili, un ambiente davvero piacevole e ben tenuto. Ogni piatto servito è stato una piacevole scoperta: la presentazione curata nei minimi dettagli, capace di valorizzare al meglio le portate, e il gusto... semplicemente eccellente. Si percepisce chiaramente la scelta di materie prime di alta qualità e un’attenzione particolare nella preparazione. Il servizio è stato all’altezza delle aspettative: personale cordiale, attento e professionale, sempre disponibile e con il sorriso. Ottimq esperienza gastronomica che ha superato ogni aspettativa, rendendo il soggiorno ancora più piacevole. Consiglio vivamente Il Rifugio a chi cerca una cucina di qualità in un ambiente curato e accogliente.
