11/12/2025: We stumbled upon Piaceri dell’Arrosto on the recommendation of locals. The location is immersed in nature, amidst the chirping of birds and the surrounding trees. The staff is courteous and friendly, not to mention the dishes, plentiful and excellent. I don't eat meat, but, despite the name, they have several vegetarian options, from appetizers to first courses. I'll definitely be back!

03/01/2026: This review is for a dinner for two. The atmosphere is nice, a typical restaurant in the Sassi district. There's a limited selection of pizzas, but they're all delicious, including the one we chose. It's among the best we've had in Matera. The downside of the evening was the service. There was an excessive wait to order, and even worse after finishing the pizza. We waited a bit too long for dessert, which arrived a bit too late. Likewise, a couple of tourists at the table next to us left because of the excessive wait. Not good. One improvement I'd suggest is better communication among the staff (which probably needs to be improved on nights like this).

24/02/2026: The service was good and fast but the pizza had no taste, it certainly made with low quality ingredients and was a bit burnt. The cocktail was very good to compensate a bit.

Awful experience. The pasta was OK but it doesn’t make up.

21/02/2026: A diner with an excellent selection of dishes. Almost all the dishes are very tasty and well-prepared. Takeout is also available. The restaurant is modern, very pleasant, and very popular. The three bar staff could be a little less "rough" and more empathetic.
The portions are generous, and the prices competitive. I recommend it.

04/01/2026: What a wonderful experience and what a warm welcome.
We had the privilege of meeting Greg and Silvia and sharing a culinary experience with them, "experiencing" the beauty of learning to make homemade pasta (cavatelli and orecchiette) with a sauce we prepared in the kitchen, then enjoying it with an excellent sweet wine, olives, cheese, and strictly local cured meats. The owners' involvement was beyond friendly. We have so much beauty that deserves to be shared, known throughout Basilicata, Italy, and the world.
30/12/2025: Greg and Silvia were excellent hosts when our family took a cooking class here on our way to Matera. They welcomed us with warmth and regional/agricultural knowledge. The meal was made with care, all with ingredients sourced from their property. We would definitely love to return and stay on site. Highly recommend for all ages and group sizes! A memorable experience on our trip.

17/08/2025: Excellent baguette shop with fresh, local products. My boyfriend and I went there for dinner and had two baguettes and a platter of cured meats and cheeses. Everything was delicious!
However, the service was very slow (despite the place being almost empty). Furthermore, although the baguette shop is open for lunch, it doesn't offer service. Still, highly recommended!

12/03/2026: We were so happy to have discovered this restaurant—it truly enhanced our stay in Matera. The ambiance was beautiful, creating the perfect setting for a memorable evening. The food was excellent; we tried our way through the entire menu, from appetizers to main courses and desserts, and each dish was a delight.
We also enjoyed local wines from Matera, perfectly recommended by our attentive waiter. The restaurant’s concept is very interesting, with a self-service element, but it didn’t bother us at all—it actually added to the experience.
Overall, it was a wonderful evening, and we can absolutely recommend this place to anyone visiting Matera.
08/03/2026: The restaurant La Grotta del Gusto in Matera Sassi is a truly exceptional place. It is located in a space carved into the rock, which creates a unique and very authentic atmosphere. The setting is beautiful and original, fitting perfectly into the historical character of the city. The food was excellent, very tasty and well prepared. The overall experience of the visit was great and I definitely recommend this restaurant.
