If you are looking for an authentic experience, with typical dishes in a welcoming and familiar environment, here the service is impeccable. A special thanks goes to the cook, a lady who, at the end of the meal, takes the time to come into the room to personally ask if everything went well — simply perfect!

In the charming village of Cirigliano, nestled among the hills of Matera, the restaurant-pizzeria Il Mulino turned out to be a real discovery, a place where the Lucanian culinary tradition is expressed with authenticity and passion. From the first moment, you are welcomed by a warm and familiar atmosphere, typical of the trattorias of the past, where the smile and courtesy of the owners make you feel immediately at home. The environment, well-kept and welcoming, is the perfect prelude to a gastronomic experience that celebrates the genuine flavors of the territory. We had the pleasure of tasting different courses, and each of them told a story of very fresh ingredients and recipes handed down with love. The appetizers, a triumph of local products, from cheeses to cured meats, tantalized the palate in a sublime way. The first courses, with homemade pasta, are a tribute to grandma's cooking, rich in flavor and prepared with skill. The pizza also deserves a special mention: a light and digestible dough, cooked to perfection and seasoned with top quality ingredients. The care and attention dedicated to each individual preparation is evident. The service is attentive and thoughtful, never intrusive, with the staff always ready to recommend and share an anecdote about the dishes and their origins. Il Mulino is not simply a restaurant, but a corner of authentic Basilicata to keep in your heart. A precious address, ideal for those looking for sincere cuisine, a warm welcome and an excellent quality-price ratio. Highly recommended to anyone who happens to pass by these parts and wants to savor the true taste of Lucanian tradition. We will definitely be back!

17/04/2025: A small pastry shop with great potential: Everything is handmade from the small pastries to the croissants, and above all to the fantastic cakes made with love and creativity, and this is what makes the difference. A few steps from the historic center of Matera, when you enter you are surrounded by tranquility and the welcome of the girls with a smile, that moment of a tasty croissant makes you feel good, and you feel the aroma of a good coffee while sitting at that small table looking out at the city traffic, it feels like being in Paris for a moment, magic takes you everywhere with the right person. Excellent service, courtesy and above all hearing "Good morning, what do you want" is the simplest thing you want to hear. Finally, while waiting you can admire small handcrafted objects that change depending on the season, unique pieces that you can buy if you want and take with you, placing it at home, perhaps in the living room, to display, you can remember that moment and perhaps return again and replicate a new experience of a sweet taste. 06/07/2025: One of the best dining experiences we have had. All aspects 5 star. Food, innovative, delicate, delicious, outstanding. Ambience/atmosphere, perfect. Wine list, exceptional. Service, perfect. We spent a lot on wine, but, one good bottle of wine and two courses for two would cost about 250 euros- worth it

28/06/2025: Food was ok but for a “nice restaurant” not worth the price. Service was lovely. We were sat outside as the restaurant was booked out - we inquired a week prior to book and was already this way apparently. The whole dinner felt a bit drawn out. I got bitten by mosquitoes.

09/04/2025: Con i miei amici gastronomi, abbiamo scelto la Locanda dell’Abate a Montescaglioso per un pranzo fuori porta. Siamo stati accolti con grande cordialità, e lo chef e titolare, il signor Giuseppe, ci ha guidati nella scelta dei vini per accompagnare l’esperienza. L’antipasto di mare ci ha conquistati con il tentacolo di polpo arrosto e le seppie cotte nel mezzo limone, sprigionando profumi delicati e un perfetto equilibrio tra tenerezza e acidità. Il legame con il territorio si è fatto sentire con la cipolla in agro. I ravioli di pesce, avvolti in una salsa di pomodoro leggermente acidula, hanno offerto un contrasto raffinato, mentre i gamberoni in crosta sono stati semplicemente eccellenti. L’atmosfera raccolta, grazie ai pochi tavoli in sala, ha reso la conversazione piacevole e conviviale. Concludiamo questa esperienza domenicale con un plauso allo chef Giuseppe per l’ottima organizzazione e la qualità delle portate. Torneremo presto!

06/06/2025: Very nice restaurant with good food and very friendly service. A very warm welcome from the kitchen, good Prosecco, and a fantastic dessert (caramel cocoa tart)! We'd be happy to go back! The waiter made a real effort to speak Italian slowly, so we were able to understand him well despite our holiday Italian. So much more pleasant than being spoken to in English despite having limited Italian skills :)
