22/02/2026: After a long journey to Umbria, with the legitimate expectation of a gastronomic break befitting the region's fame, we decide to stop in Spello and have lunch at the Il Pinturicchio restaurant. The order is simple: two salads, water, wine, and two first courses, starting with truffle stringozzi from the menu (€16). The waiter emphatically suggests the option "with the most prized black truffle from Norcia," described as far superior in quality and aroma, with a €20 surcharge. We accept, confident in the authenticity of the product, worthy of the description. The salads arrive, as does the water; the wine does not. Despite the dining room being practically empty, we are forced to call the waiter back, distracted by his phone, before he completes the service. A seemingly minor detail, which already highlights a lack of attention to detail. Then the stringozzi with the "most prized truffle" arrives. The olfactory impact is nil: no scent, no trace of the aroma that should characterize the dish even before tasting. The situation worsens on the palate: the pasta is completely bland, devoid of flavor, character, and above all, any real perception of truffle. The flakes on the surface are purely decorative, devoid of any sensory feedback. We call the waiter, and shortly thereafter the owner intervenes. After clearly explaining the lack of flavor, aroma, and balance, the response is surprising: the owner openly admits both the dish's lack of flavor and the lack of truffle aroma and flavor, justifying it with phrases like "I offer what the suppliers send me," "it wasn't one of the best vintages," etc. A statement that doesn't alleviate but rather aggravates the criticality: if the inadequacy of the main ingredient is known, it becomes incomprehensible to propose it as the star dish of the day, with a surcharge and emphatic claims of its supposed excellence. Out of sheer necessity, not pleasure, we're forced to add Parmesan cheese, oil, and salt to make the dish at least edible, an intervention that effectively certifies the failure of the original preparation. Despite the explicit acknowledgement of the deficiencies, the bill is not followed by any correction, no commercial gesture, nor any concrete assumption of responsibility: €60 requested and paid in full. The most critical point is not the culinary error itself, but the discrepancy between promise and reality. The customer doesn't pay the supplier, but the restaurant, the selection of raw materials, the quality control, and the consistency between description and result. Presenting as "precious Norcia black truffle" an ingredient that the owner himself describes as lacking in aroma and flavor constitutes a serious communication and quality discrepancy, difficult to justify from a professional perspective. In short, the experience was disappointing on every level: inattentive service despite the empty dining room, overblown and misleading marketing, a dish lacking in character, and a complete lack of corrective action in the face of acknowledged issues. Given how frequently we return to the area, we feel we cannot recommend the restaurant to anyone seeking a dining experience consistent with Umbria's high culinary reputation.

30/11/2025: La Pergola La Pergola restaurant is located in a truly picturesque alleyway: the charming entrance invites you in and promises a pleasant experience. The first part of the restaurant, however, is rather anonymous and doesn't do justice to the atmosphere that only emerges later: the internal garden, with a very well-kept and welcoming outdoor area, is undoubtedly the highlight of the place. Regarding the food, we started with the Baffo, which unfortunately turned out to be excessively salty. Next, we ordered some first courses: the toppings were good and well-balanced, but the pasta arrived a bit overcooked, which detracted from the overall experience. Among the desserts, the zuppa inglese was excellent, but the tiramisu was less convincing, falling short of expectations. The wine list is extensive, but we found several omissions, as was the case with the beers. A shame, considering the potential. The staff seemed rather distracted and not particularly knowledgeable, which impacted the overall experience. In short, La Pergola boasts a very pleasant outdoor setting and some interesting dishes, but there's room for improvement in both the cuisine and the service. It could become an excellent place with a little more attention to detail.

02/01/2026: Located in the historic center near the Duomo, this restaurant has a very elegant atmosphere. Orders are off the menu, and the wine list is extensive. We had a pinsa with tomato and buffalo mozzarella, which was well-cooked and had a pleasant flavor. Service is a bit slow but always courteous. Prices are average.

The atmosphere wasn't very pleasant; as soon as we entered, everyone began to study us and figure out what a strange planet we were from (ironically speaking). It's obvious it's a small-town restaurant and they're not used to people from out of town, but that's not the restaurant owners' fault. I'd recommend some music because I don't like the sound of forks clattering at other tables, much less hearing conversations at other tables. Cooking meat is nice to do in the dining room, but not the carving, especially of large pieces. In fact, we witnessed someone carving it with a cleaver, and the banging on the cutting board echoed throughout the dining room. The service was good and attentive. The food was very home-made, but I expected better quality meat, and especially a cleaner cut, as I ordered a fillet and it was full of sinew… The wine in a jug was fantastic and very good. 07/01/2026: I've only been there once during a visit to Perugia, but the experience was truly positive. The restaurant is small and rustic, simple but welcoming, and that doesn't matter because what matters is how you feel while eating. The dishes are authentic, simple, and very good, respecting Italian tradition and leaving you with that feeling of home cooking, with local, fresh ingredients. The wood-fired pizzas are fragrant and well-seasoned, and even the Italian dishes are tasty without being overly elaborate. The staff is friendly and welcoming, ready to put you at ease and offer helpful advice. The restaurant's atmosphere is informal yet pleasant, perfect for a break while exploring the city or a quiet dinner. In short, Il Bacio is a place I recommend for those looking for simple, authentic dishes and a welcoming atmosphere in the center of Perugia. Even though I've only been there once, it left a good impression on me, and I would gladly return. 🍕🍝✨

25/12/2025: I booked through The Fork app for Christmas lunch, and the photos already intrigued me. It's in Piazza del Popolo, accessed through a splendid stone archway. The entrance is very characteristic, and the dining room is beautiful, with a stunning fireplace where they grill lamb. My partner and I ordered two appetizers, two first courses, a second course, dessert, and coffee. Both the waiter and waitress were very kind and professional, offering excellent recommendations. All the dishes were excellent, made with the freshest ingredients, and I had the pleasure of sampling the traditional food and wine of Todi in a warm, historic setting. I highly recommend it!

01/12/2025: Umbria Restaurant, in the square. Traditional cuisine, prices in line with the quality, and generous portions. Welcoming atmosphere with just the right amount of formality, always with a smile and courtesy. Really good risotto with chestnuts, porcini mushrooms, and rum, the lamb was perfectly cooked!

02/03/2026: Highly recommended. Perhaps we were just having a bad day. The only average portion was the salad. The appetizer: the ham was good, the rest was nothing special. The veal cheek was good but a tiny portion, three tiny slices. But the highlight was the "bull with pâté." There was plenty of bread and pâté. The bull probably escaped, two super-mini transparent slices of maybe 10 cm². The house wine was good. When the bill came, they asked, "How did you find it?" I expressed my disagreement. They justified themselves by saying they had a staff shortage today, but there was no shortage in the bill. In fact, they really overdid it. Perhaps I overdid it with the stars. For me, this is a place to avoid.

05/01/2026: Informal tavern, good quality food, good service, well-kept atmosphere. The only flaw was the slightly cool dining room, even though the place had just opened when we arrived. The Gubbio distillate recommended by the host after coffee was excellent. Recommended for a good lunch at a good price.
