05/12/2025: Starting with the service, the lady talked the entire time (repeatedly) to the men at the table next to us, loudly and with her elbow practically in my boyfriend's face, as we were already very crowded.
Poor quality appetizers, including octopus alla Luciana that tasted only of olives. Gnocchi with mussels and pecorino cheese were completely unrelated, and I practically didn't eat the mussels because they didn't look good at all. The chocolate cake for dessert, I think just visually, was the worst I've ever seen; it was whitish, and then completely raw (and no, it's not a matter of the warm center, but of the cooking).
It might be okay for tourists.

13/11/2025: Food is very average at best. There are sooo many better places close by with better food for less $. The server discussed how you can tip and they even ask on their payment device? ANY GOOD PLACE IN ROME WILL NOT ASK THAT. I live in the area and you can do better believe me.
13/11/2025: I got bonus money on a website (you can see it in the photo) and decided to treat myself to dinner. At first I just wanted a quick bite, but I ended up sitting here, enjoying delicious pasta and having a great evening.

09/11/2025: Enjoyed a great meal - cosy local and traditional restaurant. Recommend the artichoke starters the beef with balsamic vinegar! The pasta was also great - the perfect texture. Highly recommend. Thanks for having us!

17/10/2025: Excellent, authentic trattoria. The atmosphere is simple but welcoming. The food is spectacular (the best carbonara and zuppa inglese ever) and the wine by the glass is truly delicious. I can't wait to go back.
10/10/2025: A small, cozy restaurant. Not suitable for large groups. I had a fabulous carbonara. I didn't get a chance to try the main course because I was in a hurry. I'll definitely return if I'm in the area.

Wide selection of wines.
The supplì and artichokes alla giudia were truly excellent. We probably could have left out the maritozzo.
The price includes a bottle of wine.

06/12/2025: A place always worth returning to whenever you're in Rome. A variety of dishes that maintain the flavors and authenticity of the place. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available for lunch or dinner with friends. Fast service, excellent presentation, and a daily menu option are all offered, all at reasonable prices considering the quality.
03/12/2025: It was an experience that involved all the senses. We enjoyed a truly sublime oxtail stew, as well as some very light but extremely tasty fried appetizers.
We were served by a friendly, knowledgeable, and very empathetic young woman: congratulations to everyone, and a memorable experience.

20/10/2025: A corner of paradise in the center of Rome, a pleasant atmosphere, excellent quality products, and the prices are commensurate with the location. We'll definitely be returning.

The menu is always splendid: top-quality fish, with always original and absolutely delicious variations.
Probably the best seafood restaurant in central Rome.
The service is also remarkable: punctual, friendly, and helpful.
Always a divine experience at Matermatuta.

I hope they maintain this authenticity.
If you want to feel like you're in Rome, you have to eat here.
29/11/2025: Years after our first visit,
the best thing of all is that... the menu may change, the decor may change, the table layout may change a bit, but the kindness, empathy, and appreciation for quality remain the same.
PS: I can't post photos because every time we come, we only remember... clean plates.

07/12/2025: I went there with my wife and her friend, all from Pordenone. The staff was friendly and very helpful, especially Patrizio, who was always ready to offer advice on all kinds of things, including local shops for clothing. The place is clean, typically Roman, not huge, and always crowded (though we always found a seat). The food was good, consisting of typical Roman specialties. During our stay in Rome, it was the best value for money, so much so that we returned three times in four days. In my opinion, it's the best in the area. We'll definitely be back next time we return to Rome.

13/11/2025: Excellent experience, the first courses were better than the second courses, and the idea of a plate full of salami that you can slice right at the table is a nice one. The wine cellar is well-stocked and offers good value.
06/11/2025: The bonus I got from the website (shown in the photo) was a good reason to go out for the evening. I ordered pasta — simple but very tasty. The sauce was just right: rich and aromatic, with grated cheese on top. It was nice to just relax and enjoy a good meal.

The atmosphere is quiet, secluded, and retro.
The service is good, courteous, and fast.
06/07/2025: Unique location under the tomb of Cecilia Metella. Excellent food and well cooked in the Roman tradition. Fast and attentive service. Fair prices. Truly a beautiful experience
