La Campana In Roma

We were guests at La Campana Restaurant on Saturday, July 18th, and were blown away. We were greeted with smiles and that typically Roman warmth that is simply inimitable. Given the scorching heat (a whopping 42 degrees outside), we opted for a table inside: a choice that was amply rewarded by the delightful climate and unique atmosphere, surrounded by the history of this incredible venue. Listen up: it's the oldest restaurant in the world, open since 1516! This "small" detail alone is enough to make the experience unforgettable. The food we ordered, strictly Roman tradition, was exquisite and impeccably cooked. We ordered: ​Appetizers: Carciofi alla giudia (rating 10/10) and Roman-style stuffed zucchini flowers (rating 11/10) ​First course: La Carbonara (rating 15/10, perhaps a bit overrated, but you'll understand once you try it!!) ​To drink: House wine - Montepulciano DOC "Per La Campana" ​Dessert: Apple pie with vanilla ice cream (rating 9/10). ​Total price: €80 for two. ​Considering the historic location, the kind and attentive staff, the top-notch local cuisine, and the more than fair bill, I think this is a restaurant worth visiting every time you pass through Rome. Highly recommended!

I rarely give 5 stars because I believe there's always room for improvement. I must say that at La Campana I found a Roman spirit that's rarely found in restaurants these days. Over 500 years of history and yet you don't feel it. Absolutely top-notch service. Pino is a gentleman with a capital "G." I ate one of the best carbonaras in Rome. I'd never been before; they've found a new customer.

A family-run restaurant that still has a vegetable buffet. An example of what a Roman restaurant should be. We just need to cut down on 0.75-liter bottles of water...or carafes or 1.5-liter bottles...water should always be plentiful at the table.
