There are almost no restaurants like this anymore. A timeless place, with excellent food and service, all family-run. Fair prices. Don't expect a Michelin-starred restaurant, but the atmosphere is very pleasant.

What luck walking into this unassuming place and finding a great meal! Off the beaten path for sure, but if you’re staying near the Borghese gallery worth the walk for some delicious food. House were welcoming and friendly, and as attentive as needed during dinner. Pizza and pasta were excellent, desserts 6/10. Would certainly return for dinner, and find gelato elsewhere after.

Authentic Roman cuisine. This restaurant has probably been around for decades. I don't think there were any other tourists there besides us. It was so delicious.

We ended there by chance and what a good surprise. It was full of Italian customers, we took it as a sign it would be good and we were right. I had the spaghetti carbonara and it was soooo much better than those I tried before in more touristy places. My GF had the lasagna of the day and enjoyed it to the last bit. We even had dessert, the panacotta, and we almost ordered a second one. The staff is not fluent in English but perfectly able to handle tourists like us. Do not hesitate to push the door. Absolutely recommend if you pass by the area.

A typical Italian restaurant. It was like I was in an Italian restaurant that is more frequent visited by the Romans. I loved the authentic atmosphere. We ordered gnocchi and ravioli. The ravioli was marvellous. I recommend you order tiramisu as dessert, one of the best I’ve already tasted.

Lovely restaurant. We didn’t have a booking but got seated; despite this the service was not rushed. Food was delicious, and our server was very sweet. Thank you so much! We are so glad we visited during our trip.

Antica Osteria Rugantino

17/05/2026: This osteria was discovered on social media, but it's far from the typical tourist-filled restaurant you'd find in central Rome. A carefully crafted traditional Roman menu blends seamlessly with a pleasant atmosphere despite the large seating capacity. Special mention to Edoardo, who made our culinary journey at the osteria fun and enjoyable! Highly recommended!
