Perhaps the chef wasn't in good shape, but the horse stew was terrible, with a slice of cold, tasteless polenta underneath. The trio of first courses, which included riso pilota, tortelli amari with butter and sage, and angolocino al ragù, were the only redeeming features. A shame; again, perhaps the chef was having a bad night. Impeccable service.

13/10/2025: Here you can find dishes from the true Mantuan tradition, on the other hand the place has existed for a long time and there must be a reason... The service is a little slow but it's worth waiting a bit, it probably depends on the fact that they prepare the dishes freshly made and are not frozen and reheated. The environment is small and you need to book but it offers an informal atmosphere where even customers feel at ease and relax. The agnoli in broth that I ordered are truly handmade, like grandma's. Honest prices. I highly recommend the bignolata as sweet, amazing, with that Marsala zabaglione it is memorable!

08/10/2025: A restaurant with a slightly 1980s vibe. The menu includes pizza, pasta dishes, or risottos, and main courses primarily based on meat. I came for a business dinner, but unfortunately, I wasn't very satisfied. The service was extremely slow, with a wait of over 40 minutes for the risottos and meat. Aside from all that, I must say that the food was also poor. The risotto wasn't great, but the meat was very sparse and disappointing. Some pieces were fillets, but the flavor was truly awful, dry, and lacking in seasoning. The prices aren't even that low considering it's a restaurant in a small town and the quality of the food. Unfortunately, I won't be returning, and in my opinion, there are much, much better options in the area, both in terms of quality and price.

03/08/2025: The business lunches offered by ContadiNostrano are excellent value. I go there very often and have always had a great experience. I've also had the opportunity to try the pizzas, and I must say I enjoyed them as well. The only downside to the atmosphere is that it leaves a smell on your clothes that can be noticed even after you've left the place for a few hours. Personally, I don't find this a limiting factor (also because, being a pizzeria, I think it's normal for clothes to pick up the typical pizza smell if you eat inside).

Annalisa, the owner, is kind, friendly, and helpful: after asking, she even adapted and now offers gluten-free beers. The evenings with live music are a must-see; booking a table well in advance is highly recommended!

09/10/2025: I used to go there often for business lunches (I should point out that I stopped for lunch during the week, not that they do business lunches!!) and I always had a good time... until I decided to organize a lunch with my family at this restaurant... on a Sunday. The owner was rude, haughty, unpleasant, and surly. "Don't order me five different first courses because I won't make them for you," I thought, "so don't put them on the menu." My father asked what kind of side dishes they had, and he only listed jarred stuff or frozen potatoes. We asked for other side dishes, and the owner politely replied that maybe we didn't understand Italian, chuckling, probably just feeling friendly. Aside from the terrible impression I made on my relatives by putting in a good word for this place, they'll definitely never see me again, and I will strongly advise anyone against going, not so much for the food—the food is decent (during the week)—but for the owner's arrogance and rudeness. How could you lose customers!! In response to your reply: I apologize if I seemed arrogant and rude (respect for gender). I didn't mean to offend, but to make a constructive comment, using the same friendly tone you used. Apparently, when someone does that to you, you get upset. 06/10/2025: I've had the pleasure of eating and drinking at this restaurant for four years running. Claudio and his wife Elena love their work so much that you can taste it in every single course and every sip of wine. Fabulous ingredients, a unique wine cellar, incredible hospitality... I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that Hostaria del Teatro is one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at in my life! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

03/10/2025: Good dishes, but prices are definitely above average

15/10/2025: We walked in when there were many tables available at dinner time, but in about an hour all the tables were occupied. It was my first local Italian cuisine experience (we just landed that afternoon). It's safe to say I was impressed from the beginning. It's what I expected but even more. The taste of the food is beyond comparison. They know how to grill and how to bake bread. They also know how to make people feel welcomed, not just customers. The atmosphere was also very friendly, it had that feeling that you are in your hometown and everybody knows you.

02/10/2025: Taking a break from hotel food we stumbled across this gem. We actually walked by initially as there were no customers and thought that at 8pm the host was finishing up. We retraced and were delighted that he was open for business and we immediately got a lovely friendly vibe. The four of us had a feast with perfectly barbecued chicken, beef,pork,local sausage, bread and wine. What made the meal however was the friendliness and eagerness to please of the host who comically overcame the language barrier through Google Tranlate and gestures. A complimentary digestive topped a lovely night.
