The presentation of the dishes made us savor the exquisite dishes even more. Excellent ingredients and superb pairings.

A truly beautiful place, full of old-world charm but at the same time with a touch of modernity... the windows overlooking the lake make everything even more charming and romantic!!!! Excellent food, truly delicious fish dishes, kind and knowledgeable staff!!!! The prices are excellent, suitable for any budget and the portions are truly generous!!!! In short, a must-see if you want to eat well while pampered by Lake Maggiore!!!! Highly recommended!!!

04/06/2026: This restaurant is located in a quaint alley in the center of Orta San Giulio, in a charming and quiet setting. The menu is simple and rustic, featuring some Piedmontese specialties such as bagna cauda and tartare (a type of meat stew). The charcuterie and cheese platter was rather generic; I would personally avoid the cooked ham, which doesn't particularly enhance the offerings. The overall impression is that the restaurant caters primarily to tourists, mostly foreigners. The real strength, however, is the welcome: both the young man serving the tables and the man I assume is his father are very friendly and genuine. While not particularly professional, they exude passion, friendliness, and a love for their work, contributing to a pleasant, family-like atmosphere. A simple, unpretentious place, but with an authentic soul.

04/06/2026: I stopped at this wine shop for an unusual aperitivo (I still had breakfast), where I tasted a glass of Erbaluce, a wine I wasn't familiar with, and it delighted my palate. The accompaniment was a hand-chopped beef tartare with cabbage and hazelnuts. Impeccably made, I enjoyed every bite. I'm sorry I couldn't make it back to buy something, but I had an unexpected setback. From what I saw, they have a well-stocked cellar, with a variety of labels and types of wine. They clearly know their craft, and I can't wait to return when I'm in the area.

03/05/2026: Better not to express an opinion...the rating says it all...€90 for terrible food, tough meat, probably close to expiring. We ate two appetizers and two main courses for €90...all accompanied by poor service...and loud classical music.

06/05/2026: What we ordered: open raviolo with scallops and courgette flowers, with lemon and black garlic sauce, spaghetti with red shrimp absolute, intense bisque, seared shrimp and fresh basil, asparagus ravioli with butter, roast sauce, crispy bacon and balsamic vinegar, eggplant and yellowfin tuna parmiggiana with almond cream and sesame dressing. I won't describe in detail my impressions of each dish, as I would have to repeat the exact same thing for each one. Each was top-notch. A true feast for the palate. The yellowfin tuna deserves special mention, both for the quality of the fish used and the perfect way it was cooked to perfection. The scallop ravioli was similar. The sauce made from the heads and shells of the red shrimp was very intense – it made a truly impressive impression. The asparagus ravioli was heavenly light. The service was excellent, demonstrating sensitivity and class. The wine was perfectly matched. Fair price-quality ratio.

We celebrated my son's birthday, and of the nine pizzas we ordered, only the boxes remained! I thought it was right to point this out because it's only right to give credit where credit is due. 10/05/2026: It's truly an old port. Even though the name on the outside says "Ristorante Trota Vagabonda." If you're there for the first time, you might be a bit perplexed. Afterward, you ask for information inside, and the location is indeed Al Vecchio Porto. The servings are very generous and of good quality. Perhaps use a little less oil for the black ravioli. The desserts are quite good. The plating could be improved...like the sorbet balls. I would bring the wine corked, not opened. We didn't ask if they had a wine list. Our mistake. On the other hand, we had a good time; the wait staff was very kind and professional. We'll be back.

29/04/2026: Company dinner, a fixed menu of meat or fish, all inclusive, for €28. We had a lovely evening. There was an appetizer for every four people, then they brought a tray of first and second courses (I even had seconds). One thing the group complained about was the potatoes... too few... you can never have enough potatoes 🤪 Water, wine, and bread rolls, plus 4/5 flavors of sorbet. Congratulations

12/04/2026: It's truly a gem. An enviable location, just before the entrance to Orta, on the hill overlooking the lake, with a wonderful view! Excellent breakfast, on the veranda overlooking the lake or, if desired, on the terrace. Guaranteed parking for guests, which in Orta is a big plus. Exceptional cleanliness and hospitality.
