28/09/2025: Great restaurant and the service was awesome..trying to find a place open early afternoon and this place was..and decent reviews..so...- Easy seating. Waited on very quickly. Maybe too quickly..as we barely had time to look at the menu.. Ordered the lamb and potatoes which was great. Potatoes were seasoned perfectly, lamb shank very tender. Although there was not much meat. A lot of ribs and a big leg bone. But it was very good, very tender. Just wanted more of it..!! Roman style Tripe was outstanding. Nice quantity of tripe, tender...the sauce was delicious. Lasagna was awesome. Large serving size.. The whole meal was wonderful. The service was excellent. Highly recommend.

28/09/2025: A simple restaurant near my house. I arrived late in the evening, hungry, and thought, "Let me stop in while they're still open." And imagine my surprise when I had a wonderful dinner for a very reasonable price, and the Tiramisu was simply amazing; I can't remember where else it tasted better!!! The pastas were delicious! They also serve bread and olive oil, and there are grissini on the tables. They make Aperol, even though it's not on the menu. The waiters are great. So, we'll be back again and again.

08/07/2025: Terrible service. We were served extremely late and carelessly accompanied by annoying and out of place sarcastic statements from the owner. Seeing the other tables finish dinner without seeing our order arrive denotes in my opinion a profound rudeness on the part of the staff. Absolutely not recommended from the moment we kindly exposed the problem at the time of payment we did not receive any kind of courtesy on the price.

30/06/2025: By mistake the online portal made us book for a Saturday lunch when in reality the place would not have service. Mario welcomed us anyway and provided a table just for us. Incredible location, rare welcome and kindness, excellent food and fair prices. Highly recommended!

23/09/2025: Very good pizza! I recommend it, but you have to arrive around 7 PM to get a table. After that, you have to wait in line… but that shouldn't discourage you because the food is very good!

22/09/2025: I'm not a pizza fan, but I came here for dinner with colleagues and we had a really good time. They reserved a space downstairs for us with a large table. The Roman-style pizza, thin and light, was a pleasant surprise. Fast service and attentive waiters.

23/08/2025: We came here for dinner while looking for a place near our hotel. The food we ordered was generally very satisfying, but what really stood out was how kind and attentive the servers were. Even though we had to wait a little, they arranged a table for us outside. Later, when we added another dish, they replaced all the utensils with fresh ones. They also checked in with us throughout the meal to make sure everything was good. It was such a nice experience to enjoy both delicious food and great service so close to our hotel. If I come back to Rome, I’d definitely like to eat here again.

23/07/2025: Just arrived in Rome with my daughter and just below the apartment is this restaurant with a very pleasant and familiar atmosphere. We received spectacular service, especially from the Spanish waitress. The food was very good, with cooked vegetables for starters and pasta for main course. The price was great too. A highly recommended restaurant.

29/09/2025: This is an old restaurant / place where locals go but in the center, so its always busy but they have seated us pretty quickly. Its a bit chaotic and all staff is rushing all the time. But their food is very good. Like home made meals that come out quick and are very tasty. Friendly staff but very quick and rushed. Carbonara was delicious! So was everything else we had!

04/09/2025: We went here on the guide's recommendation. I tried four dishes and they were all good, so it seems like they're good at everything. The pizza and pasta were great, and the seafood pasta okobuso wrapped in foil was delicious. And they're really friendly. I dropped my knife on the floor and was embarrassed, but the staff member said it wasn't my fault, and that she was too slippery to hold it, and kept poking around on the floor to playfully teased me. LOL. They even joke around in Korean. I highly recommend them.

09/09/2025: We found a hostel by chance not far from the Colosseum, but far enough away (about 800 meters). Very friendly, prompt, and attentive staff. Relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Very clean. Menu in Spanish and reasonable prices. Delicious food. Noe loved the calamari tempura and the grattaculi pasta (with vegetables). 100% recommended.

31/08/2025: We found it by chance near the Colosseum. The food was delicious and the staff (Italian) very friendly. Menu in Spanish.

19/09/2025: A great restaurant carved out of a historic amphitheater. This is not your typical tourist trap. The majority of the people eating there were locals but the staff were very welcoming to tourists as well. The cheese and mustard plate is a must have appetizer. We truly enjoyed both of our pasta dishes as well. The restaurant is a little hidden away but worth finding. Honestly, sit inside because it is like traveling back in time.

29/08/2025: We're very picky, but everything here is amazing! The Daivola pizza, the quatro formagi pizza, the pasta caccio e pepe, the Amatriciana! Insane. Finally, we had the tiramisu—wonderful. Delicate and aromatic at the same time. We wholeheartedly recommend it! 😍 You won't be disappointed.

The atmosphere in the internal courtyard was suspended, thanks to a balmy, bright evening and impeccable service that welcomed without being intrusive, with sincere smiles and an elegant professionalism that can't be learned from a textbook. Then came the pink shrimp tartare. And here every word risks sounding like an exaggeration. But no. It was perfect in texture, fresh as the sea in the morning, delicate yet with a precise character, almost musical in the way it harmonized with the aromas of the dish and the sweet air of the courtyard. It wasn't just good: it was just right. That tartare spoke an ancient and simple language, that of the sea and the art of savoir faire. The restaurant is centrally located yet secluded, like those places that offer themselves to those who know how to look without haste. Inside, warm lights and refined spaces; Outside, a Roman corner that seems designed for slow conversations and toasts that come slowly. The entire staff moves with grace and ease: nothing is mechanical, everything is authentic. And this, in Rome, has a rare value. If I had to describe what elegance means to me, I'd say it's precisely this: a place where everything is carefully thought out but nothing is ostentatious. And in a city where the offerings are endless, finding a restaurant like Matermatuta is like finding a friendly face in the crowd. One of those who, once met, are never forgotten.
