04/07/2026: I rarely leave reviews, but this restaurant truly deserves it. Excellent service, starting with the tasting of the latest-pressed local EVO oil. The presentation of the wines and dishes was professional. The fish was incredibly fresh and the dishes were generous. To conclude, I (finally) tried the authentic Sicilian cannoli, made with ONLY ricotta and topped with pistachios and almonds.

14/07/2026: A truly wonderful experience. First of all, the setting is magnificent; dining in the courtyard is pure bliss—beautiful, authentic, and full of flavor. The menu itself is equally delightful. Three daily specials featuring ultra-fresh ingredients, and then a selection of well-executed, flavorful, and superbly presented à la carte dishes. The wine list is also excellent; the Sicilian rosé from Mount Etna is a pure marvel—fresh and perfectly crafted. The only downside is that you need to book well in advance, but that's the price of success.

08/05/2026: I paid my bill with a Wise Visa card which I use extensively in Europe for euro purchases. For some reason the bill was charged in Canadian dollars with a very poor exchange rate. I pointed this out to the waiter and he said he can’t change it so I paid. This is the first time this has happened on my Europe trip using my Wise card. Even used it at the same restaurant this morning and it processed in euros. I then asked the server if they could reverse the charge so I could pay the correct amount in cash euros. He said this could not be done. When I got home, I noticed the printed receipt has a note saying “I have been offered the choice of currency”. I clearly wasn’t given a choice. Someone is taking advantage of me. Either the vendor or the the transaction company ‘flat pay’

21/04/2026: Bravissimo! I first saw this restaurant in a video with Chef Giovanni making caponata. I followed his work in that video and have been making my caponata very similar to his. We're in Ortiga for the week and had a chance to dine here. The outstanding service started with Roberto carried through right the rest of the staff to the end of the evening.

13/06/2026: At Via Trento 14, in the heart of Ortigia, on a cool June evening we discovered a true gem of Sicilian dining. We love and know Sicilian cuisine well. But "Ci Voleva" truly surprised us with its combination of professionalism, constant yet extremely discreet customer service, and the quality and freshness of the ingredients. Francesco welcomed us with a beautiful smile. We sat outside, and the wait was very short. I greatly appreciated Francesco's care in suggesting a pairing with the freshest octopus, having the chef prepare a cream that took into account some of my intolerances. My husband chose the linguine alla Ragusana. Ecstasy! During our stay in Syracuse, we will return (the restaurant opens continuously at 10:30 am) to enjoy the extensive menu once again and to meet Giusy's smile once again. Last but not least, excellent value for money. ..."It was needed" ..."It was worth it"!!!

Filippo, four years in order: he polished the plates, had fun with everyone, and at the end of the evening he said to us, "Wow, what a wonderful place! Shall we go back?" 02/07/2026: We returned to this restaurant after many years, the last time in 2019, precisely because we fondly remembered their seafood carbonara. Unfortunately, this time it didn't live up to our memories: as you can see from the photos, the dish looked different than it did back then and was a bit disappointing. A special mention goes to Francesca, the waitress who looked after us throughout the evening: kind, smiling, professional, and truly attentive to the customer. She was undoubtedly the added value of our experience. What left us most perplexed was the owner's attitude. We told her we had returned specifically after six years to relive that wonderful experience, but she showed no interest or attention. Furthermore, we had to wait for the bill because the POS wasn't working. This can happen. What struck us, however, was that, due to the same inconvenience, the next table was offered an amaro or limoncello as a gesture of courtesy, while we received nothing. We were simply presented with the bill with a cold "thank you, goodbye," without even asking how our dinner had gone. A shame, because it's precisely these small touches that make all the difference and make a guest feel welcomed. We left feeling that the care and hospitality we remembered had somewhat faded.

15/07/2026: I had dinner with my family at this restaurant. The welcome was warm and friendly, the place was nice, but the food was a little disappointing, especially the first course with pistachio pesto and shrimp, which was literally drowned in oil and too heavy. The rest of the meal was average. Considering this, the quality/price ratio wasn't good (too expensive for what we ate). On the plus side, the staff was always friendly and helpful.

13/07/2026: This restaurant in the famous Marzamemi grocery store turned out to be a pleasant discovery. Fresh produce, excellent, beautifully presented dishes. Special mention for the swordfish; it melted in your mouth, truly delicious. I highly recommend it; if you want to eat excellent fish, you're in the right place. I recommend booking during high season.

19/05/2026: An informal evening with colleagues, topped off with excellent cuisine. From the sharing seafood appetizers to the main courses and dessert, everything was excellent. The service was impeccable, friendly, and empathetic, which is hard to find these days. The atmosphere is simple, but that doesn't hurt on these evenings. If you choose Faretto, you're choosing it for quality.

17/05/2026: I had bruschetta, which was very flavorful, well-seasoned, and therefore delicious. I only had to add a little extra salt because I had a higher salt craving that day. The mixed salad with everything was also a delight—fresh, crisp, and very well-balanced. It's just a shame that the salad came without dressing, even in a restaurant that is certainly above average. Unfortunately, many restaurants in Italy miss out on valuable points with their customers, whom they could impress with a homemade salad dressing. So, here too, I had to order sugar separately from the provided ingredients for my dressing. A salad dressing without a balanced amount of sugar isn't a salad dressing. Or, as a general rule of thumb in cooking, where there's salt, there must also be sugar. You don't always have to taste it prominently; often it's enough if it just subtly enhances the flavor. My main course was a Pizza Capricciosa—and finally, after three failed attempts, I got a classic Neapolitan pizza. It was thin, with a crispy crust and large air bubbles, but unfortunately, the oregano wasn't in the tomato sauce; it was sprinkled on top afterward. Since my previous pizzas here always lacked oregano, I specifically ordered it this time. So I can't say whether it would have been included by default. It's clear that if it were sprinkled on before baking, it would burn. That's why it belongs in the tomato sauce. This flavors the sauce and distributes the oregano aroma evenly across the pizza. In particular, the untopped areas around the edge would also get the expected, typical Italian pizza flavor. This would make the crust even more appealing. For dessert, I chose a lemon mousse. Unfortunately, it was semi-frozen, but the flavor was a sweet highlight. A real mousse should be airy and light; this one had a consistency more like ice cream. As a result, when scooping out slices with a tablespoon, the pretty, round mousse practically squashed. ... I ordered two 0.33-liter Coca-Colas to drink. The real highlight came with the bill. Including the two-euro cover charge, the total was a very reasonable 29 euros. I'll definitely be back.
