12/09/2025: The food at this restaurant lives up to its name perfectly. The flavors are authentic, the portions generous. Don't be afraid to split a mixed appetizer between two people or choose just one main course each and split the portions with your companion. The outdoor tables under the trellis are a sweet treat and a pleasant experience. The service isn't particularly fast, but it's not slow either. For €20, you can leave your table feeling full.

If you are looking for an authentic experience, with typical dishes in a welcoming and familiar environment, here the service is impeccable. A special thanks goes to the cook, a lady who, at the end of the meal, takes the time to come into the room to personally ask if everything went well — simply perfect!

The place is unpretentious, just substantial. The price-quality ratio is excellent. The cherry rosolio is the final highlight.

09/04/2025: Con i miei amici gastronomi, abbiamo scelto la Locanda dell’Abate a Montescaglioso per un pranzo fuori porta. Siamo stati accolti con grande cordialità, e lo chef e titolare, il signor Giuseppe, ci ha guidati nella scelta dei vini per accompagnare l’esperienza. L’antipasto di mare ci ha conquistati con il tentacolo di polpo arrosto e le seppie cotte nel mezzo limone, sprigionando profumi delicati e un perfetto equilibrio tra tenerezza e acidità. Il legame con il territorio si è fatto sentire con la cipolla in agro. I ravioli di pesce, avvolti in una salsa di pomodoro leggermente acidula, hanno offerto un contrasto raffinato, mentre i gamberoni in crosta sono stati semplicemente eccellenti. L’atmosfera raccolta, grazie ai pochi tavoli in sala, ha reso la conversazione piacevole e conviviale. Concludiamo questa esperienza domenicale con un plauso allo chef Giuseppe per l’ottima organizzazione e la qualità delle portate. Torneremo presto!

I asked if she understood English & she confirmed yes Had a delicious charcuterie appetizer; then ordered a most interesting pasta dish with Gluten free penne. Confirmed. It was delicious. Waitress comes by for dessert order; tiramisu- I asked: is that gluten free too?!?!? Her answer: No, and your meal wasn’t either !!!’ BEWARE: although restaurant advertises Gluten free, the staff IS NOT WELL TRAINED to understand their customers or too rushed to listen carefully to what their non Italian speaking customers are saying. Owner very apologetic but way too late. The meal was ingested.😡

22/09/2025: Four days of complete relaxation, immersed in nature. The spacious room was equipped with every comfort. The owners were attentive. What can I say...absolutely recommended.

28/08/2025: A farmhouse in a working agricultural setting, surrounded by the simplicity and beauty typical of these places. We stayed with our 9-year-old daughter, Flavia, for a weekend, and found a family atmosphere and excellent food, simply cooked and made with top-quality ingredients. The room was clean, spacious, and well-appointed, as was the rest of the property. We enjoyed the pool, which was a truly enjoyable experience.

Excellent dishes starting from the bean salad which is very famous in that area, the first courses, the meat, all with top quality raw materials. The portions are generous and the prices are more than fair. Thank you Giacomo for the great experience and we will definitely come back to visit you as soon as possible 🤗

17/09/2025: What a fall in style... we were very disappointed, as for two years now, the week after the feast of the Madonna of Viggiano, my wife and I go to Sunday mass in Viggiano to pay homage to the Madonna and then for 1 pm we book at the Narciso restaurant for lunch and by now knowing it as an excellent restaurant where the owner served in the dining room last year and we had the opportunity to appreciate his kindness and professionalism, excellent quality of raw materials, this year since I had found it on TheFork (I state without any discount) I preferred to book through the platform, if I had never done it, I don't know why strange things happened, my wife and I ordered as a starter the bean salad with pecorino crust (a truly negligible quantity) then as a first course I had cavatelli lucani with cream of broad beans with sausage and porcini ragù and it was served to me practically in white without the cream of broad beans, then in the second courses they outdid themselves, I ordered an entrecote (thin and strangely cooked), my wife a mixed roast with sausage fillet of pork and beef sirloin, they brought her a piece of sausage, a thin slice of pork loin and a tiny strip of beef, and up until that point she complained to me, I told her okay, pretend nothing happened and go away, but at the table behind us the same mixed grill arrives but with pork fillet, sausage and beef sirloin, all in the quantities as it should be, not enormous because I swear we are not gluttons, but the quantity, and what they had written on the menu as it should be, at this point I will definitely never book with TheFork again, but I don't understand, given that we didn't take advantage of any discount, what kind of behavior is this? If they have problems with the platform, we didn't ask them to advertise on TheFork.
