04/05/2026: May 3, 2026 Wandering through the narrow streets of the Sassi district in search of a restaurant for dinner, we entered and were seated without a reservation. What can I say...a very intimate restaurant with a charming setting, partly inside a limestone cave. It offers an excellent selection of wines; we were expertly guided in selecting one that both suited our tastes and complemented our dishes. The dishes certainly deserve praise (I must say I had a delicious fava bean and chicory soup, the best...). Everything was truly delicious. I can't give the service 5 stars only because a few more smiles from some of the staff would have been appreciated, even though they were extremely polite and kind. Highly recommended.

04/05/2026: Osteria L’arco was my favorite dining experience in Matera! The food was phenomenal with lots of local dishes to try and the service was the best. The pasta with peppers and ricotta is so far my best pasta in all of Italy! And the chocolate cake with orange and peppers was an amazing combination (I especially loved the cocoa hearts). It was my first dinner as a solo traveler and they treated me well. Grazie L’arco!

17/05/2026: Passing through Pisticci, we had lunch at this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by the hospitality and friendliness of the staff. The lunch was excellent, with generous and high-quality dishes, so much so that we didn't have a chance to try the main courses because we were full after the appetizer and first course. The flavored grappas, made in-house, are especially noteworthy; they're truly delicious. I hope to return soon; highly recommended!!!

09/06/2026: During our visit to Matera, we dined at this trattoria. The staff were friendly, the service quick, and the dishes were delicious: a cheese and cured meat platter, fava bean puree with chicory, and orecchiette alla matarese. I recommend it.

05/05/2026: A typical Lucanian trattoria with truly delicious dishes: we thoroughly enjoyed both the homemade soup and the soup with meatballs in tomato sauce, both flavorful and well-prepared. Unfortunately, however, the service wasn't up to par. The lady, presumably the owner, seemed rather haughty, while her daughter, who was taking orders, was even more so. We would have appreciated greater kindness, friendliness, and a modicum of savoir-faire. At various times, she was rude, even towards other customers: for example, with a table of undecided foreigners, she showed impatience, grumbling and huffing, turning away so as not to be noticed. Overall, a mixed experience: good food, but the welcome really makes the difference. Personally, I don't think I'll return, because a good restaurant should also offer empathetic and pleasant service, starting with the managers, who proved less friendly than the very kind waiters.

17/05/2026: Drawn by the positive reviews, we decided to have lunch here. Unfortunately, neither the first nor the second course satisfied us, and we left feeling truly disappointed. The photos, unfortunately, don't reflect what we were actually served. The only positive note was the wine, but it wasn't enough to compensate for the quality of the food. The sauce was very watery, and the pork cutlet seemed to be drowned in wine: there was no reduction, as indicated on the menu. A real shame.

14/05/2026: This restaurant has a rich cultural heritage; it's nearly 100 years old, and the building itself is over 100 years old. That's why it received a cultural award, which is quite unique. The food is Southern Italian cuisine. Local red peppers (I didn't take a picture) are used in the dishes, and they're very fragrant. Please see the photos for food descriptions. Overall, it suited my taste. Personally, I think everything—from the sourdough bread and cheese platter to the raw meat platter—was delicious. If you're ever in this area, I highly recommend trying it. 👍🏻😊

11/04/2026: Lanterna Verde, in the heart of Trecchina, is a place that manages to combine the welcoming atmosphere of an osteria with the attention to detail of a restaurant and the versatility of a pizzeria. The menu is wide and varied, with carefully presented dishes and an almost gourmet touch, making the experience enjoyable from the very first glance. The portions aren't particularly generous, but the quality more than makes up for it. I didn't have the chance to try the pizza, but watching it being passed around the tables nearby, it looked truly inviting, well-leavened and packed with fresh ingredients. I opted for the meat, which was tender and flavorful, accompanied by simple but well-prepared side dishes. The cod fillet was also excellent, tender, delicate, and cooked with great balance of flavors. The deconstructed cake served at the end of the meal was a pleasant surprise, delicious without being heavy. The service was courteous and helpful, with attentive but never intrusive staff. Overall, Lanterna Verde is a place worth a visit: a refined restaurant with well-crafted dishes and a relaxing atmosphere. It deserves four stars, and I'm eager to return to finally try the pizza.
