13/05/2026: Must visit when in Orvieto! Such splendid service and such a selection of cured meat, cheese, olives, paninis and tagliata. A local butchers shop with all you can ask for. We ordered a mixed tagliata and a side of olives. We got several different cured meats, salami, porchetta, cheese and bread. It was just to die for!!! Beer’s in the fridge, wine is by the glass. Take a seat outside and enjoy. Total cost? Only € 22,50, incredible Only in 🇮🇹 Grazie mille 🙏🏼

17/05/2026: UPDATE: I’m updating my review after a change of heart. I at first felt I wanted to disregard my disappointment of this resort but after lack of care and accountability from the resort I thought I’d share. I’d first like to point out that the restaurant, their staff, chef, service and food were all five stars and excellent. The resort itself however lacked hospitality and any resemblance of luxury. Upon arrival we were horrified to fold over the sheets and find a smashed bug UNDER the covers. We then proceeded to check the rest of the bed in fear it was a bed bug later to realize a huge blood stain on the corner of the comforter. We immediately requested another room in a different building and were happy to be upgraded to a wellness suite although we still were weary of the cleanliness of the room and its lack of design. We had previously booked the cooking experience which was excellent and the staff was very accommodating. We left full with great food and wine and happy we experienced the resort. Until we checked out and realized that my suitcase handle had been broken with no way of collapsing it when it was working perfectly fine up until our departure when our bags were picked up from our room and taken to reception. I emailed the staff to notify them and instead was met with accusations of saying my suitcase was broken upon my arrival and complete denial of any carelessness. I am now left with having to replace my brand new $200 suitcase because my airline will not accept a suitcase that doesn’t collapse. I am deeply disappointed with the lack of professionalism that is to be expected with a luxury resort. I had thought they redeemed themselves from the bug and blood situation and even wrote them a good review (see below), until they blatantly denied and instead blamed me for my broken bag. We still enjoyed our experience but I would honestly just come for the day for the restaurant and wine and would pass on staying at the resort itself and save your money. Original review: We had a wonderful stay at Altarocca Wine Resort. The staff was incredibly friendly, responsive and accommodating. Location: The resort is about a 10 minute taxi ride from Orvieto or the train station which the resort was able to help arrange for us. The property itself is located in a beautiful and picturesque Italian countryside surrounded by vineyards and rolling landscape, perfect if you want that winery stay vibe. Food & Wine: The restaurant on property was incredible, hands down the best meal of our trip. It was fine dining with excellent service and fantastic execution with balanced yet sophisticated flavors at the right amount of complexity that was not too overwhelming. We went with the staffs recommendations as well as their recommended wine pairings and they couldn’t have done better - they nailed it! They serve both a variety of their in-house wines as well as an extensive list of other regional wines, but their in-house wines were all wonderful and we stuck with those throughout our stay. Experience: We were able to enjoy a stroll through the vineyards after breakfast and took their cooking class in the afternoon which included lunch and a wine tasting after. I highly recommend this experience as it was engaging, informational, and fun! Overall we were very pleased with our stay and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We felt prices were very reasonable for the experience and we will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family! Great views. Great food&wine. Great service

12/04/2026: We booked a double room at Altarocca Wine Resort for what was supposed to be a special night: the last of our honeymoon. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bitter experience, marked by frustration, disappointment, and utter disappointment with the way the situation was handled. As soon as we entered the room, we realized that the so-called "double bed" was actually two single mattresses pushed together, with a visible indentation in the middle. Sleeping was uncomfortable and frustrating, far from what one would expect for a €190 a night. The most serious issue wasn't just the problem itself, but the way it was handled. After immediately reporting the situation at check-in, we were told that to get a true double mattress, we would have to book a higher room category, paying an additional €50. And, rather casually, we were told that "it was still a double bed." Frankly, an unacceptable response for a property that should and does boast such standards. The next day, upon checkout, no one even bothered to ask us how our stay had gone (and I also consider this to be in poor taste). I was the one who had to raise the issue again, only to be met with a cold and indifferent attitude, as if the issue were irrelevant. Zero customer service, zero empathy, and zero professionalism. Making everything even more unpleasant was the fact that it was the last night of our honeymoon: a moment that should have been pleasant, relaxing, and memorable, but which was instead ruined by this experience. Finally, the organization of the wine tasting also left much to be desired, which is paradoxical for a property called a wine resort: I had asked for a wine tasting upon our arrival at 5:00 PM, but we were told they would have to check the sommelier's availability at that time. In essence, we would have had to start without even having time to settle into our room. An unreasonable proposal, which we obviously declined. In conclusion, a well-presented organization that, in reality, proved to be inattentive to customers, inflexible, and unprofessional in handling issues. For the price paid and for the occasion, I expected something completely different. Absolutely not worth it.

12/04/2026: I stopped for lunch with some customers (part of a tour group). The atmosphere was very nice and welcoming, and the staff was very friendly. I ordered a Baffo all'Orvietana as an appetizer and whole wheat pappardelle with wild boar ragù as a main course. The Baffo was amazing! And the main course was also really good! Highly recommended. The place is located in an alley near the Duomo, so it's also easy to get to.

30/03/2026: A truly enjoyable dinner. I recommend the cured meats and cheeses as an appetizer. With their homemade bread, they literally melt in your mouth. To top it all off, the extremely kind ladies are there. You can taste the quality of the dishes and the care taken in the kitchen. A place I'll gladly return to.

22/03/2026: I've stopped by Bar…Zelletta several times when I've been to Orvieto, and I have to say it's one of those "home" stops that never disappoints. It's a simple, no-frills place with a genuine atmosphere and a value that's truly hard to find elsewhere in the area. The pizza here is good, well-cooked, and made with honest ingredients—nothing gourmet, but perfect for a casual dinner or a quick lunch if you're passing through. The cuisine has that traditional Italian "homestyle" feel, with simple yet tasty dishes that remind you of your grandmother's. The staff is generally friendly, approachable, and happy to recommend a daily special or suggest a typical dish. Many similar places can sometimes seem rushed, but here they manage to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, as if we were part of a family. Sure, the place isn't a fancy restaurant, and some might find it a bit dated or spartan, but for me, that's part of its charm: it's a sincere, unpretentious place where you can eat well without spending a fortune. In conclusion, if you want tasty pizza, traditional dishes, and a relaxed atmosphere, Bar…Zelletta is an excellent choice in Orvieto—especially if you're looking for something authentic and homey. I'd go back.

30/01/2026: A beautiful church, beautifully nestled in the equally beautiful city that hosts it. Built in the Romanesque style, at the time it must have been a jewel of elegant spirituality. Unfortunately, many of its frescoes and decorations have been lost. It's still worth a visit; you won't regret it!

17/04/2026: First of all, I'll say that I'm a big fan of Italy and Italian cuisine. However, there are places like this that can kill any enthusiasm. We've been traveling around Italy for several years and only once have we had a problem with the food, and this was the second time. I'll describe everything so that there are no misunderstandings. First of all, the menu is extremely poor and the prices are like in a five-star hotel and a little over the top. We ate three portions of pasta. Pasta bianco 2pcs - the portion size was like for a 5-6 year old child. The quality was average. It has two spoons of minced meat and very little parmesan. Usually they serve it to us separately and we add it, but here it wasn't like that. They even asked us if they would add parmesan!!!! Very strange!! The other pasta was with garlic, a little red sauce and that's it. The quantity is not commented on, extremely small. The quality - complete disgust - just the smell of garlic and nothing else. Even the sauce was tasteless. On the other hand, we paid 46 Euros in this roadside restaurant. Just for comparison - in Florence we paid 45 Euros in a restaurant with overeating and everything was uniquely delicious. Three people overate. That's why we won't sit in such elementary pubs in Orvieto anymore. In the large shopping center, which is 50m away, it's many times tastier and cheaper. Last year we ate there and it was great. Whatever the restaurant tells us - that's the truth. Just to mention that today in Rome we ate three huge pizzas, with fried mozzarella for 31 Euros. It was very delicious. Avoid this place and don't visit it for anything. And since you decided to answer me - this is my reaction: Look, you might have confused the person you're arguing with about food. No matter how much you say you don't know what aglione is - I do. But when you're selling it in a restaurant, you might try to make it a little tastier. You could serve it with a bowl of parmesan cheese or extra olive oil or a few sprigs of basil that would make this awful dish a little better. If you cook this crap at home and you like it, why do you think everyone will like it? You didn't even think before you said this nonsense. I've been cooking with garlic for a long time, even with black garlic, if you've even heard of it. How can you justify the price for this crap, let alone the quantity. Today we had lunch in Bracciano - the food was excellent, we sat in a restaurant. The service was top notch, the quality was superb and guess what, for the same money as you, we even had dessert. But comparing a restaurant in Bracciano to a roadside hole in Orvieto....... a little ashamed. There are very few like you in Italy, they are hard to find, but we definitely have to put you in your place. With a cost of 4Euro for our food, you took 46Euro. Don't think that you are the only one who can do the math. I have written many reviews and only two terrible ones - you are the second. Is this good for you??

11/05/2026: Unfortunately, we didn't have the opportunity to try the restaurant's cuisine, and for this very reason, we prefer not to comment on this aspect. However, we believe it's important to emphasize how much first impressions and hospitality impact a customer's overall experience. We had booked a table on April 25th, intrigued by the idea of ​​a day trip to the beautiful Orvieto. Before arriving, I called the restaurant simply to warn them that, due to the typical holiday traffic coming from Rome, we might experience a slight delay of about 15 minutes. This wasn't a certainty, but simply a possibility that we wanted to disclose for the sake of fairness, having also had to enter our credit card details to guarantee the reservation. Unfortunately, the person on the phone was rather rude and unhelpful. This was a questionable decision, especially since we weren't just customers, but also tourists. We were told in no uncertain terms that such a delay would be unacceptable and that the table would be cancelled immediately after 2:00 PM, adding: "After the toll booth, you have 20 minutes to arrive on time." We regret not having been able to enjoy what might have been a positive experience in other respects, but given these circumstances, we chose to cancel the reservation. Our intention was simply to be courteous and transparent, advising that we could arrive no later than 2:15 PM. We're still a little disappointed by what happened, but that's okay.

07/05/2026: I've known this restaurant for 6 years and returned to it on May 2nd for the 5th time (in October 2022 I also celebrated my birthday there) and I must say that the experience is always magnificent. It's the ideal way to escape the tourist chaos of Orvieto, especially in the midst of a long holiday like May 1st. The dinner was truly excellent, with masterful preparations of Umbrian cuisine and more; an excellent wine list; impeccable and very friendly service. Even though I'm not a regular visitor, I admit that returning is always a wonderful experience! See you soon!
