05/01/2026: Good place for a quick lunch or aperitivo. They don’t serve cooked dishes ‘like pasta’. Had a plate with a variety of pecorino cheese with ricotta, but that was it. Me and my husband had both the ‘vegetables’ but arrived some preserved like zucchini’s, beets and artichokes. I think their price is expensive in proportion of what we ate. All of the above, €51 with 2 glasses of wine.

18/03/2026: This place is incredible! The view of the hills, the setting, and the location are magnificent! We had a wonderful meal; the dishes were original and delicious. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was pure la dolce vita, just like you dream of it! An excellent experience for our birthday, especially with our one-year-old son, with whom all the staff were kind and understanding. I highly recommend it!

26/03/2026: First and foremost, the owners' friendliness, combining courtesy with customer service. Then the wine, as the name promises: a vast selection, both bottled and by the glass. Finally, the dishes: a carefully selected selection of local culinary traditions and local products. A must-try; we've returned several times.
22/03/2026: We stopped in Pienza to walk around and try some pecorino cheese. On the way out of the town, we saw this bar that had wine tastings. I am so glad we stopped!!!! We got to try 3 Brunello wines and it came with an appetizer of delicious cheese, meat and bruschetta. Definitely come here!!! It was welcoming and delicious!!!

12/04/2026: Here's a more polished and clear version of your review, maintaining the critical tone but with a more structured approach: — I'm giving it three stars mainly because of the presentation and because, overall, the food was tasty. However, in terms of value for money, it leaves much to be desired. The dishes arrived cold, and the portions were very small: my companion ordered pappardelle and they only served five pieces, which is insufficient. Furthermore, the service was extremely slow, as there was apparently only one person serving the entire restaurant. Overall, the experience was quite disappointing.
10/04/2026: Entered empty terrace to get a drink, told we had to sit away from the view watching staff eat a sandwich, so left strange choice to turn down customers I would avoid this place personally. Nice view though.

20/01/2026: Two half slices of bread with a slice of ham and a small piece of pecorino cheese passed off as a "panino" for the modest sum of 10 euros. Unspeakable. We continued our meal elsewhere.
04/01/2026: I don't usually leave reviews, but this place deserves my full attention. The staff is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and engaging. The ingredients are top-quality! I highly recommend the pecorino cheese tastings, olive oil bread, and 15% ABV wine (sorry, I don't remember the name). Anyway, trust the truly professional and delightful staff in the dining room! Valerio is here 😂, but he might as well not be, given the expertise and friendliness of his wonderful staff! We'll be back soon, thanks for everything ☺️

03/02/2026: What a disappointment. The restaurant is small, expensive, and not good. The meat was so riddled with tendons that half of it was inedible. The service was extremely slow, and the waiter made fun of our German group in Italian. I expect more respect, especially when he doesn't know that some of our group speak Italian.
10/01/2026: I've visited over 100 Italian restaurants with delicious food and the hospitality befitting Italy. I've never been so disappointed. We were a group of 10, and only one was somewhat satisfied. The problem is the dramatically small portions. All my pasta could have been wrapped around a fork three times. It was a two-year-old's portion and cost €22. I have the impression that Mr. Catastrophe's sense of humor is also a defense mechanism, as he reeked of stress. When we pointed out that they served micro-portions, we were told we could finish it with bread... I'm speechless. I understand that some restaurants aim for multi-course orders, but at the prices there, that would mean €100 per person. When paying the bill, the manager completely ignored the problem and offered no explanation, let alone an apology. He gladly accepted the money. We left hungry. I HIGHLY recommend against it.

20/11/2025: I arrived in Monticchiello on foot from the north. It was a sunny November day and the sun was slowly approaching the horizon. The path was lined with ploughed fields in the color of Tuscan ochre. Medlars and persimmons were ripening, red rose hips glowed on the branches, and fresh acorns lay in the undergrowth. The landscape shone with the full palette of Tuscan colors. In other words, the walk from Montepulciano was enchanting, yet long enough for me to reach La Guardiola with a proper appetite. I was lucky. Many restaurants were closed off-season, but La Guardiola offered me a splendid gourmet experience. The sun was already touching the horizon over the Val d’Orcia when I ordered my first glass of Orcia DOC red wine for €5. As a starter, a delightfully light bread with lardo arrived at my table. The slice of bread was toasted, and the lardo from the Italian Cinta Senese breed was thin, transparent, delicious, enticingly glossy, and sprinkled with a generous amount of strongly aromatic rosemary, which paired surprisingly well with the fat. And now for another completely needless digression: Did you know that the word for ‘pig’ sounds similar throughout Europe? In Italian suini, in German Schwein, in Norwegian svin, in Czech svině, in Polish świnia, in Urdu swuan? My second course was Florentine tripe (Trippa alla Fiorentina). An unusual ingredient, which I had known only from the Czechia, surprised me here. It was prepared with a tomato sauce. The dish’s flavor was emblematic. Because of their texture, tripe is a very animalistic and dynamic food. My personal theory says that tripe is preferred more by men, for the same reason that sausages and salamis are more popular with women. My taste buds barely resisted the urge to order another course at La Guardiola. I wouldn’t hesitate to compare this inner battle to the year 1555. Just as the armies of Siena held their last strongholds against the advancing Florentines, but ultimately had to surrender, I too had to surrender the desire to order a third course. Night had fallen, and it was time to head back.

27/10/2025: Went here on the 18th of oct and had a great time. We were a group of 8 with a toddler. There was no room for us inside so the gentleman arranged a place for us outside. It was a bit chilly and he saw us struggle and immediately brought us some blankets. The service was great. We loved the food, was one of the highlights in terms of food for me in Pienza. Keep up the great service and quality of the food. P.S. the beef stew was 👌
24/10/2025: A nice tourist spot in the center of Pienza. The prices are slightly lower than the average in the surrounding area. The atmosphere is charming and well-kept, both inside and out, with clean and convenient restrooms. The service is friendly and fast. The food isn't bad, but it's nothing special either (we tried the walnut and pecorino ravioli and the tagliatelle with meat sauce).

After ordering three Toscanaccio sandwiches with Chianina burgers (which isn't a classic sandwich (semi-sweet), but rather a schiacciata like the one pictured on the menu), we received three classic sandwiches with mushrooms that tasted like pickled mushrooms and mayonnaise! Luckily, at least the burger was Chianina, and the quality was still poor! I pointed out to the waiter that I hadn't ordered the sandwiches he'd brought us—three classic sandwiches with Chianina—but three Toscanaccio sandwiches. I showed him the photo on the menu, and he argued that those were the sandwiches, even though they looked completely different in the photo! After a heated discussion, we took them, but upon eating them, we noticed that the toppings and the bun were truly awful! Terrible service and quality! It would have been enough to say that they had run out of that type of sandwich (schiaccia) without insisting and arguing that that was the sandwich! It was completely different! We won't be going back!
